Our languages speak our souls. For this reason, they shan't be lost. When we choose to lose touch with it, we have chosen to be lost.

I just found out by a DNA test that I'm slightly over half Navajo. Adopted by a wonderful family when I was 1-2 years old, I was never told anything about my roots. I was born in Shiprock area, moved to an orphanage in Albuquerque, and adopted through a church program, because I looked white(light complected)...until I tan, the (red skin) pigment starts to show. I'm 65 years old and at the end 1/3 of my life, I'd like to know more about my Navajo heritage, language, customs, because I've always "felt" a bit "lost". Thanks to Rosetta Stone, I have a start back to home.

I used to know some Navajo when I was younger, now I barely remember it now. ever time I visit my grandparents always speaking navajo, I feel bad since now only few ppl I know speak navajo. now I can try again. thanks Rosetta Stone.

I can't wait to buy this. I'm half Navajo, but I don't know my own language. My dad never even TOLD me I was Native until I was thirteen. But that's all he said. He never told me anything else.

When i was a kid in the early 80's, my grandfather told us stories about the Navajo code talkers and taught us the Navajo prayer and some words. He would have loved to have seen the movie Wind Talkers. Our past is a key to our future he would say.

I would like to order this because I do understand but not enough to speak respectfully toward my grandparents. I also lost myself not speaking my own language because I am far from home.. It would be nice to know the price. Not just for my self but for my children also.

This is a lovely way to preserve and encourage many to learn Navajo, such a very unique and beautiful tongue. :) I hope to purchase it myself some day.

I find this very interesting. Growing up I was always fascinated in the history of Native American although I have no native ancestry that I know of. I have more books in my house on Native Americans then any other books. I have read many stories written by Native Americans and their experiences. My wife has Cherokee Ancestry. I have been studying Tagalog with Rosetta Stone but I think I will check into Navajo Language also. Respect too all who have tried to save their culture.

This touches my heart greatly, I wish my tribal knowledge and reverence existed to teach my tribes origins, I feel it's lost long ago, through lies and deception, the fact this amazing people the Dine, have maintained theirs and have made progress to preserve it for generations to come is bold and represents the strength of this wonderful beautiful people whom I admire greatly. !!! I've taken time to listen to some elders teachings and respect the things I've heard as these values come natural to my spirit and being as it does with those who shared them. This native nation is strong it has been tested and withstood the test of time, their tinastity to remain "bringers of beauty to the world" remains the proof they cannot be defeated in spirit of love and life.

i really want this!!! I want to learn navajo. i am an anthropology student with an archaeology concentration, and i am very very interested in southwestern archaeology. I spoke with some Navajo men and they tried to teach me some words, but I only remember how to say hello and goodbye! haha

I used this program in high school for language credit, even though I learned Navaho/ Navajo at home before that. This was pretty neat.

totally understand what the ladies are saying. Im full navajo and i was raised off and on the Navajo Nation. and my mother has poor teaching, which made learning navajo difficult for me to learn. so i pick up a book on learning Navajo language, which i found myself speaking navajo and my mom was surprised i was reading navajo. so yes, i can speak navajo, and read it. I can easily learn Chinese and Japanese. its just how good iam.

please inform the rest of us that speaking Dine is in no way similar to english. Especially in long sentences. My relatives speak and they flow, it actually flows compared to english. My little understanding is this, Navajo is very basic it's either "light" and or "dark", It's not yellow and dark blue. It's called a metal and not a fork. It's the tone of your voice and dialect that makes the only difference when your talking about a fork or a knife. Because they are both metal objects. Even in sentences it's not exactly the same the subject comes first and then the adjective and it's always in "broken" english full of grammatical errors. If you were to translate this very paragraph into dine my bet is that in dine and it will not be word for word it will be shorter and less constipated and alas more enjoyable to imagine in your mind because in dine images come first rather than sentences or words. Take a movie and translate this movie into dine. For example, the subtitles, translate a favorite scene for instance and compare. It will not be the same. We are letting english contaminate the process of learning instead we should be picturing objects in our mind while we understand this wonderful language.

What? Omg, all I know is some words taught me by the guys I worked with in Aneth👍 I’m a white fellow from Pacific Northwest. I wouldn’t speak any of those words in public... when I worked there in 1985 everyone spoke Navajo. I can’t believe so much has been lost in such a short time. I’m definitely buying this🙏👍

Many years ago I lived in Az. for a short time and made a few Navajo friends. I wanted to learn the language so bad because unlike other languages it flows like a fluent stream... but that's not even accurate enough to express what I mean. Regardless it's a beautiful language but the trick if I remember right is to learn the mindset behind the sentence structure as it's nothing like English or Spanish even. Id love to be able to get this or something that would teach me to think, speak and write in Navajo fluently out of sheer respect for the people whom I found to be much more laid back and happy than I was used to. Now of course I don't assume every Navajo is like that but the ones I met all seemed to be great people. I'd love to get out there again sometime as it's been 25 years ago and I loved northern Arizona. No place like it.

Encourage them to compete in proficiency. Run the local community in Navajo. Make proficiency in Navajo an essential qualification for employment in schools, hospitals, public services. Do you have Navajo language radio, television, websites, social media? It can be done.

Lol yes I used to teach white kids in 6th grade 2005 in phx Az. I would teach them simple words and phrases even explicit words. Than when they would get mad or pissed off they would swear in Navajo or insult me or other white kids. It was funny watching white kids called each other names in Navajo and the teacher didn’t know the words. Which was a advantage during test and getting away with nasty words lol. I was pretty popular in middle school and the only Native American who wrote in cursive too great handwriting in cursive. But I was always naughty, brilliant, intelligent and funny always funny individual. But I had bad days as well like not having enough money to buy lunch or sometimes even going on field trips I would go but no money for the adventure:( but I was so popular kids would just buy it for me or borrow lol

I am reading about the relation between Diné (Navajo) and Yeniseian ( Siberian language) .. they are alike in many words, like the following examples , the words for Stone, Foot, Old and Snake, in Diné (Navajo) : tsé, keeʼ, sání, tłiish in Yineisian ( Siberian) təˀs, kiˀs, sīn, tìɣ

The language needs to be updated, writing it is just as important as speaking it. To me I stopped bothering trying to learn it because writing it took waay to long.

Sorry to say that, but that’s just hopeless. The only way to keep a language alive is using it every day with your children and encourage them to speak it themselves. That’s it. That’s the only thing that works. The rest is simply loosing precious time. Make your kindergartens and homes full-time Navajo and the rest will take care of itself. Guaranteed.
