I added your Anne Rice videos for future since I haven't read them. Hopefully soon. But I can watch this one, I love House of Leaves. Kinda reminds me of Silent Hill 2 and Blair Witch Proyect. I loved the poems, the one about the house of leaves (untitled fragment) it's one of my favorites. I would also recommend The Raw Shark Texts.
I have, though it was a while ago now so I can't say too much specifically other than that I expected to find it deeply boring, but absolutely loved it. Even the long rambling parts about whaling I think integrated into the story really well. Definitely one to re-read one day, and maybe do some longer videos on!
This has been in my "don't forget about" list for a while, and I greatly appreciate your review, though I found myself at times both more and less inclined to read it. That said, have you read The Legend of Broken by Caleb Carr? It is similar to The House of Leaves in terms of it being a found manuscript with footnotes and references to historical people and events, but the "hook" is fantasy-mythology rather than terror. I don't believe it is quite as ambitious as Danielewski's book sounds. Though it took me a while to get into it, I was so glad to have kept with it and found it rather amazing. It was so disconcertingly real that I must have spent an hour reading reviews and commentary, published at its time of publication (2012), to resolve my internal conflict over whether this was simply Carr writing a very ambitious work of fiction.
you can also try The Raw Shark Texts. While I love both, Hose it's more a work with a story and Raw Shark it's an excellent love story with the same way of telling.
I love this book so much. It’s been years since I read it, and one thing I’d never considered until now is that the complicated, some might say *labyrinthine* nature of academic writing is as much an echo of the labyrinth in the Navidson house as the ergodic nature of the book itself. Also, fun fact: Danielewski’s sister is the pop star Poe, and her second album is basically a companion piece to House of Leaves.
@@JoshuaJClarkeKelsall oh, one other irritating thing about Babel, in the audiobook “Babel” was pronounced with the A spoken like the A in baby, not like in Tower of Babel, which was how I thought it was pronounced, the same as you said it in video. Go figure..
