The Navy Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds are the two elite flight demonstration teams of the USA. Their performances are considered iconic. They are icons of the US Air Force and US Navy and symbolize power, agility and precision.
These two teams are also considered as the official ambassadors of the Air Force and Navy and they represent the US around the world. So which team is better?

I've been a BA fan since I was 7 years old, always following them and keeping track of what plane they're flying. I've gotten to see them on many occasions. I have never gotten to see the T birds live, but I would love to.

I like you bro I think your a really good guy who does a bunch of great things with great content and you definitely were very skilled making it to the top 1 percent of pilots but man no way are the thunderbirds better I mean there a great show and team but you gotta give it to the angles there moves are just so much better and look way better in the sky they seem more skilled but I can’t really speak on that like you can lol.

The mostly unnecessary ground show that the T-Birds do can only be seen 1% of the audience in the front row. The rest of the audience can hear the F-16's start up, and are wondering why it is taking soooo long for the show to start. The Blue Angels start up, go through a couple checks, blow smoke, and are up in the air in a couple more minutes. Win!

True, I grew up watching the Blue Angels every year and this year I made an effort to go to the T Birds. We were standing and waiting to start rolling and we heard them but had no idea what was taking so long. Watching this video now I know why lol.

The blue angels also go through walkdown to their jets in formation? Is there another aspect to the Thunderbirds "ground show? I always stand at the front, and don't recall anything different from either show they both greet their crew chiefs. (Though the Blue Angels greet only their individual crew chief, at their jet)
@schurb

@@davbhard The Blue Angels walk down and crew checks are much faster. This gets the birds in the air quicker.
@luger700
@luger700 Год назад
Agreed. The Thunderbirds ground show is inferior to the way the Blue Angles do it. The ground show results in a bunch of downtime and messes with the pace of the show. There are only so many hours for flying during an airshow, so dedicating 15-20 for something that is rather uneventful sort of sucks.

The Blues do have a ground show too. I've seen them a few times march to the plane in formation. Canopies all close in unison. Spool up and ground checks. Even the crew that removes the chocks are moving together. You also left out the beloved "Fat Albert". Seeing a C-130 with rockets to assist in short runway take offs (JATO) is impressive to say the least.

My father was a huge fan of the F4E Thunderbirds, since he had maintained similar versions while serving in the USAF during the 70s. But the best show is the one put on by the Blue Angels in Seattle over Lake Washington. Flying at altitudes lower than the tallest buildings in Seattle has always been a site to behold. Nothing says Seafair and the Hydro races more than when the "Blues" come to town. You forgot to mention, the "blues" also get a +1 for using the "Fat Albert" C130 as part of the demonstrations.

I got to see both in '03 in Dayton within hours of each other. It comes down to what you like. The viper is faster, better thrust to weight and makes tighter turns. I've always been an fa 18 hornet fan, and loved blue and yellow paint scheme. I've seen way more Blue Angel shows than Thunderbird shows but I've never been as impressed with the Thunderbird shows. I feel like the overall show the Blue Angels produce is more synchronized and times better for the crowd. The one Thunderbird show I went to seem short and multiple times we wondered if the show was over because there was a long gap of absence from even the solo jets. I do say the Thunderbirds have a few unique maneuvers that are pretty cool.

My first air show was in the early 80's and it was the Thunderbirds but flying T-38s at the time. I was hooked. Then I saw them the following show when the transitioned to the F-16 which was an amazing sight. Subsequent years they would eventually alternate between the Angels and the Birds. I hold the highest respect to both team dedication and skills and am fascinated still every time I am blessed to watch them preform. All shows that I've seen have been at MacDill AFB in Tampa or the Sun n Fun Lakeland FL. The Thunder Birds are my "Home Team" since they were my first exposure and because Tampa used to be home to an F-16 fighter wing after the F-4 Phantoms became obsolete. I do however jump at the opportunity to see either team perform.

@ckmoore101
@ckmoore101 28 дней назад
Closer is very misleading. Its more to do with the geometry differences between the F-18 and the F-16. The Thunderbird pilots are absolutely capable of the same close maneuvers, but simply cannot due to the shape of the wings, and the airflow characteristics. And the jets look is totally subjective. Both are equally incredible, if you are being intellectually honest. It's really all subjective. Anyone who says pilots from one branch are simply better than the other, really have no clue what they are talking about. Training regimen, and time invested, are very similar, except that the Navy obviously adds carrier landing training

They have both performed locally over the years. The area has a lot of water and surrounding hills -- the Blue Angels seem to tailor their show for the geography while the Thunderbirds seem to run more of a set piece. We had the local regular suspects whine about noise and the next year, the T-birds definitely throttled back. The next year, the Blue Angels made no concessions and stated that it wasn't noise, "It's the sound of freedom". Honestly, the Angels paint scheme works better for me. With an overcast day, the T-birds are hard to pick out against the clouds whereas the darker Navy scheme still pops.

The Thunderbird shows I’ve been to have all originated off-site so I’ve never seen their ground show. Might be worth checking out when they come to town for Labor Day weekend. I love watching both and both are awesome headliners but I’m a Blue Angel fanboy. 🤩

Thank you for all the great content, realy enjoy all of you ensights. I have noticed from time to time your models of Thunderbirds and Blue Angels. Can you tell me where to find them. I have seen online different ones on different sites but they really don't have the detail that I am looking for. Thank you and I look forward to more of yor content.

Hoping to see the Blue Angels in Lincoln, Nebraska this August! Even though I have liked the Blue Angels more most of my life, I now think that the Thunderbirds color scheme looks cooler. I also never really watched the ground shows as a kid, I will now

Since I am an Air Force dependent, I love the Thunderbirds. They are performing this weekend at Rickenbacker (Columbus) Ohio. I live two miles from Rickenbacker.

Viper Crew Chief from 86 to 91. We were right next door to you guys! I was with the 64th Aggressors when we first went to F16s from the F5. Your hanger was always amazing! We love you guys so much! I remember the Blue Angels came to Nellis and parked across from the T-birds and then later in the day we got to see both shows! Talk about a great day! :)

I personally lean towards the Tbirds. But I do like that the Angles give you the C130 demo as well. I just like them both. But on a side note. I am amateur aviation photographer that like to post on flightaware. I have pics of the tbirds i would like to post. But where do you find the tail numbers of the vipers? I like to get all my tags right.

agree... a years ago the BA flew the TB for a demo, and one of the TB G-locked out... Why?? Because she wasn't used to taking G's without a suit.

Still waiting on a video that explains cockpit comms and the cadence of the boss calling the show. Those bosses sound like robots and frat boys all at once. Interesting technique.

Just saw the Thunderbirds over the weekend and they are amazing. But you mentioned incorporating the maintainers. Depending on the show, the Blue Angels fly with their support plane Fat Albert and that's a sight to see.

All the elements the Blue Angels, and Thunder Birds combine. Are amazing. How ever I think you should review the Red Arrows The Tornado part of the show I’ve seen nothing else like it. And it doesn’t stop there. Look um up. Mind blowing!! 👍👍

I've seen you both, and loved both, but remember the F18 is built to go slow, and the F16 doesn't really like slow, so I'm sure the Blue Angels are more comfortable with getting closer, because they don't have to worry about their jet moving around as much Edit: I guess I should of watched the video first, you explained all this lol
@tray22

I have also seen both but the F18s stayed up so high it wasn't much fun. The Thunderbirds were low and did things that the Blue Angles didn't even attempt.
@Cirux321
@Cirux321 Год назад
@@tray22 That is subjective to what show the teams are flying. Both teams have high, medium and low altitude shows depending on weather, visual range and cloud cover. Living here in Pensacola where the Blues are home based, I see them every week throughout the summer. They do get very low as well.
@tray22

I love watching both teams. Amazing flying. One thing I’d change on the thunderbirds paint scheme is to put the jet number on the tail like the blue angels do. It makes it exciting to see which jet is doing what.
