One of the best (if not THE best) from the Captain. As a fam, we've faced some tragedy & trauma but nothing as visceral as Rick. Testament to his honesty for us - it can't be easy to let that sh1t hang out in public. Great interview & that boat is utterly gorgeous, the handling & set up is beautiful. Incredible story of survival against the odds Rick (and the Captain), and the hardest story to tell. I lost my 17 year old daughter from a hauntingly similar attack, a dirty 4m white shark right near me while surfing. The white was so aggressive, it managed to rip her leg off at her thigh so she sadly lost all her blood within seconds. I didn't have a chance, at the time I thought I did and managed to get her to the beach but in hindsight I know now she was already gone. We fought so hard, but in vain. You fought so hard and medically you didn't survive, but then you did - what an amazing story. I admire your courage for telling this in such a heartfelt way Rick - just amazing. A side note, love the ride and performance of your console, it just lopes along with zero fuss on the water, very nice. I have a similar amazing rig, a Seafarer Venom 6.2 in pristine condition that takes us everywhere. Our family is finding peace and the joy in life is coming back but it certainly has been a test of fire.

Rick is obviously a man with nothing to hide and a wealth of experience and knowledge in diving. It is part of the healing to tell everyone you can of this type of story, as just listening to this encounter and remembering some of it could help save you life or someone else’s. A day when everything went wrong and everything went right. Glad to see you made it out the other side Rick. So many take aways from this one. 1. Nothing matters more than the ones you love 2. Being in great physical and mental shape can save your life (I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this man survived because of his physical and mental preparedness) 3. If there’s one thing about the ocean it’s that it’ll tell you all you need to know before it happens (that whale shark was telling him to stay out of the water) I had a similar experience surfing. A pod of dolphins came over and surrounded me, shortly after a 10ft bronze whaler swam through. Lucky this one wasn’t hungry. Great job on this one boys
