Navy OCS Class 13-11: Suya and Chow Hall

I got rolled three times in OCS. Started out with 11-11 and finished with 13-11 as seen above.
Response to some of these comments:
Yeah it is a weak beating here. Come and try to survive on one of the bad days when it isn't show-and-tell for the parents to see.
I'm proud of my class and all the now Officers serving in the Navy. Most of them have gone on to start great careers in Aviation, SEAL, Seabees, Supply, SWO, and other designators.
Appreciate the hardship and sacrifices these people make for their country as this is an account of how they started their journey as an Officer in the United States Navy.

I’m 66 years old....I did Navy Boot Camp in 1973. Navy OCS in 1983. FLETC Federal Police Academy 1992. Dear God....all the feelings, smells, aches and pains to keep my mouth shut....come back as if yesterday. The only one that “tells me what to do” now? My Australian Shepherd....maybe once in awhile, my wife. God bless these young people who continue to volunteer to put themselves through this, simply to serve and protect our country, our way of life. Dear God bless each and every one of them.

I’m 76, went through boot camp @ Great Lakes in ‘65 and many of those lessons have stayed with me for a lifetime. The Navy is where I did my growing up and wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

This is extremely watered down to serve as a dog and pony show for friends and family. The worst beatings are the best because at the end I have a smile on a face because I survived it. You learn to be strong by overcoming obstacles and learn to persevere until the end. Rolling three times did not stop be from commissioning and now I am dominating as a top Chop in C7F AOR. Beat that!

I was part of Honor Class 04-97. It was weird going from getting yelled at to having Gunny Woolette saluting and calling you sir. I hated that sand pit... dropped out of our first beach run when we were back on the road... nothing like being made into a powdered donut. If you ever watched the Rock and watched the scene where Seals get out of the Truck. Well one of those Seals was in my OCS class, Rick Toms. He was our class president and the Gunny's loved to make him do pushups. He could do them all day long.

Thanks for the post. I was in class 87006 (6th class of 1987). This brings back memories! I was a prior enlisted, got out, got my degree, and my first day of OCS was on my 30th birthday.

First Sergent DiCosimo had my back when I was just a rebellious Lance. I wont forget what that felt like to get a senior Marine's support when it would've been easier to throw me under the bus. That man's is the real thing no doubt. Him , Joseph Adcox, and Phil Collins were the 3 brothers in di school. I'll never forget them.

I went to boot camp in Feb 1956 and OCS in Jul 1956. In between, I was a boot camp asst company commander. I got my commission in Oct 1956. I stayed for the mandatory 3 years active duty and 6 years in the reserves. I left the Navy as a full lieutenant. I'm prone to motion sickness so I wasn't a good fit for the Navy. Sea duty was mandatory.

Why do Navy Officer Candidates address Drill Instructors as "sir" but Marine Officer Candidates address Drill Instructors by their rank? From all of these RU-vid videos of Navy OCS and Marine Corps OCS, Navy OCS looks more intense. Navy Officer Candidates seem to have a Drill Instructor experience more like the Drill Instructor experience we had in Marine Corps Recruit Training than the Drill Instructor experience Marine Officer Candidates have.

That’s some odd cadence rhythm , instead of a 4/4 “left, right, left” ... it’s more of a swing “leah ift, leah ift, riiight “

Thel Vadam anything with "officer" in front of it is GUARANTEED to be far easier than enlisted..we (enlisted) really have to work/earn our keep

Enlisted beatings can last up to an hr, in NWUS (to include heavy boots)as opposed to pt gear. Even right after a PRT!

Lol, Navy can enter the chow hall in PT gear. If Marines tried to do that, we get our asses handed to us in a heartbeat. The only time I was allowed to eat in the chow hall in PT gear was when I was in Pensacola and we were in an unexpected time-crunched, so our instructor authorized us to subside in the chow hall still in our PT gear with the rest of the Sailors in our class. Granted, it was a Navy schoolhouse...

@@ryanensor7844 It was very different then. We did not have Marine DIs, The company chiefs assigned the PT. Instead of carrying M-16s, we carried 1903 Springfields, which were alot heavier. No cammies, just khakis for daily uniform.

Can't really compare boot camp to OCS
@howellwong11
@howellwong11 Год назад
Yes I can. OCS was more mental and boot camp was more physical. OCS was easier because the quality of your fellow students was better, which made it easier for everyone. We did everyat boot camp.thing as a company. One guy screws up and the whole company gets punished. I went from Seaman Recruit to Ensign in 8 months. I graduated top of my class at boot camp, but 76 of 700+ at OCS.
