It's also considered inappropriate in (most) western cultures to wear black to a wedding. No idea what Meryl's mother is even thinking.

I guess you’re Indian orgin and live in India- Fashon isn’t too important and the Indians abroad just don’t care what comes- as long as its Indian and fits the criterias is what we care. If its fashionable, if its trendy, its literally the only few places to shop for Indian wears- so we’re happy with what we get.

The diaspora fashion style often - no matter which culture - is more opulent and “tacky” then the modern original origin country one. Due to availability the choice is limited also and when people want to glorify and underline their roots they tend to go over the top and try to copy memories and picture they have on mind which most likely is Indian fashion from some years back

In my country, everything is on the groom's family since they are going to officially bring another person's daughter into their family. That's a gesture that means "we'll take care of her from now on".
@2Cambell
@2Cambell 2 года назад
@@NarYan2904 This is wonderful!!! My family's history has been that when someone gets married that they become part of our family, male or female. We don't give up daughters or sons... Sometimes in the past, a husband's or wife's family could or would not contribute. I got married, my father and mother claimed my husband, they considered him family (This was kind of a shocker for many people at our ceremony!) and then his parents equally claimed both of us as theirs as well. So, it was nice to have have both of our families, while we were navigating life.

While Christians do wear more pastels and white but they too mostly wear a saree (silk) or wear gowns these days. Thus they wear saree

dunno about the rest of South, but in Kerala Muslim brides wear lehenga or saree. Christian brides wear lehenga/saree/ or whatever to the engagement ceremony, but not for the wedding ceremony itself, brides traditionally wear cream/white saree or a white (western) wedding dress. Also, the Christian bridal reception outfit is a saree as well. Hindu brides wear Kerala saree for the wedding, as well a kanjipuram silk saree.

She would end up offending tons of people. I'm assuming non-Indians know white and black are not part of the zillion colors we can wear. Red is the traditional color for most part. These are damn common things to Google when you're planning for a cross cultural wedding. She said she pursued the guy and was very excited for an Indian wedding. Black is tormenting and scandalous to say the least. Even if there's a single design of black color, the bride can't wear it the whole first year, as per our tradition.

1) Its not your culture, so shhhh. Let us explain, India is huuuuge, with every 5 kms you’re entering a different language, different ethnics. North indians wear lehenga and spend LAVISHLY on their weddings. And I mean like blowing up shit crazy ass weird weddings. But south indians on the other side, like it plain and simple and very down-to-earth environmentally friendlier weddings. We don’t like to spend so much money on our weddings but rather do something more good. Like feeding an entire village, planting trees, just keeping our weddings as cheap as possible but at the same give it back to Earth. 2) They’re abroad, these are the kinda stuff you get ouside of India. Trend isn’t an essential part of the fashion in Indian wears abroad 3) The lady was going to get married to SOUTH INDIAN CHRISTIAN guy- who wear very simple sarees that are more silk based and none of that bold good-lord-I-lost-ny-sight blind lehengas.

I am (obviously) no Indian, but I absolutely love lehengas. They are so beautiful. I would really love to own one to wear out. I really wish I had known about them when I got married in 2016, because I really would have worn one! My husband is Lebanese and I think he would look so great in some styles of sherwanis. I love this show so much! Thank you!

Even White wedding gowns are not under 500$ atleast keep it above 1000$ or rent up an indian dress there's a lot of handwork done with a lot of layers pf clothing and those kanes they apply under it to give it a flur. Ik eveyone is not that rich but if you're planning to buy one keep your budget near 1000$

@@gothicyid I didn't say no one ever wears it, I meant that it's not traditional. In any episode of Say Yes to the Dress where the bride wants to wear black, the family is upset because it's not traditional, just like the sister-in-law here.

@@angrydonutface7420 but in india black though acceptable at reception depending on culture definitely not at wedding by the bride or the groom. Unless the groom follows another culture and wears suit .

I didn’t find her sister in law rude, she was just trying to make a point and she felt offended because this person hasn’t done the littlest of research- but again, I don’t really expect another person from a different culture to know about mine. Its okay, if people are not aware, the mom was there to learn! She probably was just hurt because she feels that wedding is nothing like her culture- because Indian parents do their shit seriously. Personally I felt bad for the mom that her daughter couldn’t get married in her own culture. I hate this about Indian parents- always making it about them.

marie q are you talking about the Jews. Cuz Jews aren’t considered european nor white. There can be whites who are religiously Jews, but Jewish is also an ethnicity. Her roots are probably from Israel which is more Arabic to be honest than white. Soooo hence they’re really not white or at most I’m guessing mixed with white.
