The flashy dunks are very helpful in gaining momentum and getting your players on fire. If you really know 2k, you know that 2k is a game of runs. The more impact plays you have the better you increase your chances of winning. So don't believe it when someone says flashy dunks are not useful
On a fastbreak sure outside of that is impractical. A hop step dunk can split two help defenders PLUS finish over contact when there are 3 bodies in the paint. Flash dunks only good on fastbreak clear path to basket....

A straight hop is used to move defender out the way physically. When you hop gather to either side it's to wiggle your way around the defender so neither one is "better" than the other
Hey Sam, on 2K20. Which controller function do you think is best to use for Shooting. The stick or square button for Shooting? To me, it seems like the stick is more accurate in 2K20 with your release timing. I was just curious on what you thought were.
I used both depending on the situation. Set shots I use square. Hop shots or pull ups I use stick. Is all situational for me, I try to choose the best button that gives me the smoothest shot animation.
Thanks for the reply back. I use both buttons as well. It's funny how I can green light with certain players on my team using the ■ button for them, & green light with others using the stick for perfect timing for them.
It should be an option if you have a two handed dunk package like Russell Westbrook it should do that animation only if you're right hand is dominant it should do tomahawks with that hand only but the game decides it's both hands

Defense is faster and more adaptable but yah even on HOF they got no chance vs these moves lol is just gonna be about your shot timing and ability to make reads.
Sam Pham NBA 2K20 Tips and Tutorial if you don't have speed and accel it's next to impossible to get open. Only reason I can get open is because of quick first step gold
On the hop step dunk progression you really don’t need the pro stick for it that’s too confusing for some You can turn your pro stick function on dribble moves -if you want to side hop step dunk to the right or left just hold the left stick to the left or right while going to the basket and tap square -instantly after tapping square hold down r2 and hold square to complete the progression dunk *a simpler way
Friction yea, you need to buy dunk animations. trust me they’ll help a lot. also but contact finisher even if they are not that close to u it still helps u trigger a dunk animation. and buy contact dunks. get all of those and trust me you’ll be dunking on everyone
Yea I notice when I have a defender on my hip for a blow by he catches up to me and stops my dunk because of the slow gather. I think that badge might be slept on
Is it possible to throw the ball to the board and get it back (confuse the oponent, step back and throw)? Or in a match to throw it to the board and let someone dunk?
Wb lob finisher? I have a 6'5 pg with an 80 driving dunk and 71 vertical but i only finish the lobs with lay ups....but donovan mitchell, a 6'4 PG, does it in the game ........i dont get it.....
Hey if you could help me if really appreciate it so basically I have a 6'5 slashing playmaker and every time i drive for a contact dunk or regular dunk my dude decides to hop gather instead of just going straight up
I'm not most biggest NBA2K player but I like NBA in general. So made a similar build to Giannis(Since I'm Greek & like his style). Anyways my main attributes and focus is wanting to be like him. PF, taller, bigger etc/ Be a monster etc. Be able to dunk, dunk in traffic and I'm having problems. I've done most things and watched video's but can't dunk still, even in open lane/traffic/by my self? Can someone please respond that plays the game heaps and maybe reason to why I'm having trouble. Once again, I'm not hardcore gamer/player of NBA2K so maybe doing something wrong that is simple. Would be good to know because if case can't even dunk in the game, I'll either trade game back for cash or maybe if can be fucked start over and do a player that is open field shooter and buy/spend some VC since grind is a bit too hard for a casual like me. Problems : 1. When u play with PF , u DONT get the same position like giannis in this video, mean u dont have the position to attack the rim like that. you can come to 3line and get a pass , call a Screen BUT becaus of u being PF and slow-ass u cant speed to the rim without another player come to cover the empty space and block your way, so you end up getting NOTHING. Sadly Heavy PFs r bad in 2k20, u dont have the speed like giannis when you begin ur game , lets say with 85 overall, you have very shit speed as you can see down left. 3, this game is the game of badges , its really a matter of badges, get fancy foot , contact finisher, and you do a lot more dunks like that. 4. When u play Nba game ( not park or Pro am ) there is an invisible aura around everyplayer, mean when u run close to someone and try to get dunk animations, the animation doesnt trigger like they should. 5. What very people forget is, without having Dunks animation, you will not get Dunks. With these in mind. First of all, learn to get free line to rim. As 6.11 PF , pick and roll is a good way. (There is a lot of videos how you can get ur finishing badges Tip : Go to coach setting , set option so you can call for Plays no matter if u PG or not. Call for Quick Iso. Pass the ball to the man outside , call for screen, u get free line to basket. The beauty of 2k20 is you can call for screen without having ball in ur hand ) SO YOU NEED TO GET BADGES , while u r working for that. Dont miss training between everygame. Dont get angry if u can do a shit at begin, like i said its just becaus of u being slow and u not having badges. When u get silver or more Fancy foot and contactfinisher, what all u do is the hop dunk like our Bro explained here and u will get a lot of it, just becaus u r 6.11. Smaller guys will not get as many as u will get. I have 6.10 pur slasher with HOF finishing badges,. well i end up with 50-80 points in 12 min game Mostly dunks. So DONT GET ANGRY ; GRIND AND U WILL GET WHAT U WANT.Another tip : Train the moves not 10 time, 1000 times that you get very Pro with those. Becaus After that when u play , you can only focus on what game gives you like " oh i got free line there , time to side hop dunk". AND NOT LIKE " oh i got free line there, oops wtf was that side hop dunk, down left oder up left when ball is on my left hand ooo wait its on my right hand " LUL. So i hope i could help you. What i forget : when u want to dunk, hold L to the rim, R depend on which dunk you do, and R2 . DONT LET THEM GO BEFORE U FINISH UR ANIMATION. I for some unknow reason always droped R2 and ended up doing a layup and i was very ANGRY and asked me 1000 times, wtf am i doing wrong. One day my friend told me that my finger doenst do what it should, so i ended up doing more many dunks after i focused to hold all buttons like i should( just sayin , idk if this would be the case for others too )

How do I take off hot steps at joystick?, i dont like to hop step at joystick because it messes my right hand or left hand dunks so i mostly do them with the square button is there a way to take them off the joystick
I have a problem, in a 6 foot 4 inch point guard and it is impossible for my player to dunk even on fast breaks he just lays it up and it’s aggravating

Hey Sam, How to select a player then have him do "cut to basket" play. And throw a lob.. I use to do that. In all 2k up to 2k19 but it seems they took it out when press L1 n L2 select a player I don't see a "cut to basket" option
Ok so here is my issue with dunking.. can someone please help me... is there a certain rating you need to begin dunking in the first place? Does your strength come into place?is it the animations? Because me center is just not dunking at all but he 7feet tall. Standing dunk at 60 is there like an issue I’m confused.

bought a lot of superstar dunk packages, including shawn kemp's, but I can't seem to make them work. I just wanna lister blister my defender. I already equiped elite and pro contact dunk. driving dunk is 85, standing dunk is 95, speed is 64. need help.
