@@jaymob9448 crazy because Magic won his first chip as a rookie and also won MVP without Kareem who sprained his ankle in gm 5, and Magic had to play center.
At the time of this top50 list, only Pete Maravich had passed away (just 40 years old). Now, for the top75, Paul Arizin, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Dave DeBusschere, Hal Greer, John Havlicek, Sam Jones, Moses Malone, George Mikan, Dolph Schayes, Bill Sharman, Nate Thurmond, and Wes Unseld… are no longer with us. And then of course Kobe Bryant, selected now for the 75th anniversary team and not here to see it, similar to Pistol Pete (Kobe died just one year older, at 41). RIP to all of them
I think it'd be tough because post-Celtics Big 3, most younger NBA players have been on several teams as compared to 25 years ago when players stayed on one team their entire career. So they could get jackets representing those teams; Zeke could wear Pistons and Magic could wear Lakers and Jordan could wear Bulls, but what jacket would Lebron wear today? Cavs, which he spent the most time with? Heat, where he was most successful? Or Lakers, the team he currently plays for? No one jacket could adequately summarize players' careers today.
After watching the 75th anniversary ceremony I had to come back to this one. This was the real deal. Almost all the past and present stars were there. Maravich was the only one who wasn't there. Even WIlt Chamberlain and George Mikan were there.
@@alfredodistefanolaulhe2212 I was meaning in attendance. Shaq was definitely apart of the 50th anniversary team. Although, he claims that he wish he wouldn’t have been inducted so young because he felt like there was more former players more deserving than him at the time.
Wilt is so mythical. The numbers he put up doesnt even make sense. I just love seeing footage of him. He is my favorite player and he is the most dominant player this league has ever seen. And that moment at 7:18 yeah love it!
I checked and surprisingly enough, David Stern had decided to put Shaq in the greatest 50s. No disrespect to Shaq, but at this moment in his career, it did seem a bit early, and maybe for a lot a decision connected to marketing purposes.
I don't know if it was Ahmad Rashad but I heard someone from the media disclose what was discussed between MJ and Wilt right after they met at All-Star '97. Apparently they were going back and forth on who was the g.o.a.t.
This is what I wish the 75th was like a lil more the conversation between these greats is all I ask for I could watch all of them talk to each and talk about all their great memories
I've never seen one game between all these 50 pace-setting legends but seeing all of them in one video after hearing about them in documentaries, man, it's something else. Something extraordinary, something epic.
I love magic, although I'm a bird fan (white kid from Indiana) magic was always so nice to Larry anytime Larry wasn't socializing which off court seem to be the usual. I love that magic pulls him into conversations. Makes everyone wish they had a friend as cool as magic Johnson is to Larry. Ultimately he doesn't owe Larry any respect really, but he gives up anyway cuz he's cool like that
MJ was so humble and respected Wilt. Wilt was a presence, even Pippen wondered how Wilt would be guarded. That's the same we see Jordan now. Although at that time Kareem was the name but he did not have that Alpha presence like Wilt.
To me MJ is the GOAT. But I am really biased, because I am 49 y old and grew up with him. In the whole goat discussion I only have doubts about Wilt, when it comes to comparisons with MJ. Man, he must have been a beast. If he had two more rings, he would beat MJ in that discussion imo. But I really can understand that many consider Wilt as the GOAT.
@@johnming73 True Sir. What would you say of kareem that had the rings. At times I think 🤔 if he had Jordan or Wilts personality, he would have been looked upon as a GOAT.
@@Simon_and_Lami Kareem is a beast too. And you have a good point sir about his personality. In fact those are my tp 3 MJ, WIlt, Kareem and to complete the top 5: Magic, Bird.
Favourite moment - 6:55 when Wilt states he's got about a year or 2 left up his sleeve to play NBA for 10-15 minutes a game. Sadly he passed away just under 3 years later but what a incredible larger than life being. Can sense Wilt's aura in this footage...especially when he's speaking to Jordan. That moment when Wilt, the iconic mythical colossus interacts with the greatness of Jordan? That is a recorded moment that will stand the test of time.
Wilt is the cool grandpa here shaking everybody's hands usually you expect the younger guys to approach the older players but wilt is the one approaching everybody else what class
Imagine that chat with Jordan and wilt. Jordan was a bit raw cos wilt had criticised him early on about only dunking and of course wilt was the only one Jordan was chasing when it came to scoring records. Hope they got to meet up and have that chat.
Watching this before and after the top75 ceremony is very strange yet very nostalgic. Seeing guys being still alive here and having black hair makes me respect them even more.
