Jordan would have stayed if Jackson was the coach. And if Jordan stayed, most of his team would have wanted to stay as well. The blame for the dismantlement falls on management.

The only reason Jordan would have stayed if Jackson were the coach is because Jackson allowed Jordan to do whatever he pleased and Krause wasn't having that therefore Jordan left and it closed the chapter in the 90's Bulls Dyansty

I think it goes to show how much of a 2 man show the bulls really were and how they still managed to dominate with all this drama going on shows how good they were..they were the warriors if the dubs had drama and ego and made mistakes...obviously rodman and grant helped but those teams were a bunch of average guys and had pippen and mj stayed they easily could of won again replacing a steve kerr or a jud buechelr or a bill weenington is pretty easy around mj and pippen ...heck finding a rodman replacement wouldn't have been that hard honestly...or a Longley harper or kucoh fill in....you cant replace a mj pippen duo...with anyone...its like trying to replace shaq and kobe or magic and kareem or curry and Durant d wade and LeBron..McHale and bird ...its just hard

Krause sure didn't seem to mind seeing the main 3 go. "Phil will not be back if we go 82-0." "I can't wait to build a championship team without Michael Jordan." He sure as hell didn't do anything to promote unity with Phil, MJ or Scottie.

this is bullshit..earlier, they said..Jordan would have stayed, if Phil Jackson would have stayed..and now they blame Jordan, as the no.1 reason..they're running in circles. Jerry Reinsdorf is the one to blame..he should just put is foot down, for the sake of his franchise.

Paul Jason They (Krause , mgmt) sure didn't help by repeatedly saying "Phil will not be back next yr if we go 82-0". He should have begged Phil to stay, thus Jordan and Pippen stay as well.

damomand Well, while they haven't reached finals since, they have rebounded quite nicely since Krause's departure.
@AgentJ2007
@AgentJ2007 9 лет назад
damomand Rightfully so. Krause wanted too much credit. There was an incident during Jordan's second year where he sustained an injury. As you know, Jordan wanted to win and to play asap. Jerry didn't want Jordan to play. Michael asked why ? Jerry Krause said: "Because we own you." Krause is white and Jordan is black. Knowing the history between whites and blacks, to use that kind of word "own" is racially insensitive, ignorant and stupid. From that day on, Krause was blacklisted in Jordan's book. You dont have to find a reason to dislike Krause, he just gave you too many reasons to dislike him.
@damomand
@damomand 9 лет назад
AgentJ2007 wow he really said that? never knew about it. while i don't think that was the singular reason why Jordan didn't like Krause, because there were plenty more, personally that would give me one more reason to dislike someone had they used that phrase towards me.
@AgentJ2007
@AgentJ2007 9 лет назад
damomand Of course it's not just that one reason that would make Jordan dislike Krause. That was the one that struck the hardest and the one started it all. This happened very early in Jordan's career and it gave a bad impression to Jordan.

I don't think so. The cracks of the team was showing in the 1997-1998 season. Pippen was on the decline, Rodman was basically washed, and other teams like the Spurs and Lakers were building a young championship core. Sure MJ would definitely tried his best, but at age 36, the amount of baggage he would have to carry even to his ability was too much. I think the team broke up at the best time because we all wanted to see them go out on a high.

If Jerry Krause was not one of the most insecure people I have ever read or studied, he would NOT be the most hated man in Chicago sports. No matter his accomplishments, he puts Jim Irsay and Jerry Jones to shame when it comes to saying "look at me look at me look at me and what I DID" Maybe I'm old-school (I'm only in my mid-thirties,) but when my Ma and Pop said "If you're attractive, if you're smart, if you're funny, etc, you don't have to tell anyone. They will know, I took that seriously. Make all the documentaries you want (and they are goood!!); Krause's insecurities and being needy for adulation made it 6 titles instead of 8 or 9. Period. Krause's was insecure and had self-esteem issues. He wanted to be a part of the NBA culture, but he didn't fit in. His people skills were awful. He wanted to proved to everyone that he could see talent where other's could not. He passed on Karl Malone in order to "discover" Charles Oakley. He took Brad Sellers, Will Purdue and Jeff Sanders rather than the obvious choices that the fans and media wanted. He still kicks himself for passing on Shawn Kemp, Tim Hardaway, V Divac and Michael Finley

Krauss ran Jackson out of town and always talked about how the team would only be kept together as long as they were winning titles. Meanwhile the Spurs have shown how a real front office keeps a team competitive by complementing a core group of aging star players with new talent instead of just scrapping the whole team when they appear to be on a downhill slide and by holding onto their hall of fame coach

Had the Bulls lost the last two years I can see it being time to make changes. However, they were winning championships and still competitive. No one is discrediting Krause ability to bring in the right pieces. They questioned why would he break up a dynasty that proved themselves to be competitors. Effectively it was his ego and small man complex that drove him to try and prove a point that "organizations" wins championships. Ironically I'm willing to bet no one would ever question that statement. However, the players and coaching staff are at the fore front with all the hard work and games played through the years.
@imllendream
@imllendream 8 лет назад
Reinsdorf & Krause were obviously to be blamed. They knew from the start that there were two possible things to happen: 1) The coach and players will eat their pride and stay because they are winning titles, 2) Coach and players were gonna give up and walk away. They thought that the second scenario was very less likely to happen. They thought they got the coach and the players necks on the salary cap issues for 2 reasons: 1) Bulls is the only sanctuary for them to win titles they couldn't have whenever they leave to join other teams. 2) 10 Players had their contracts ending in the same period, so they may get terminated if they refuse to accept the salary cap. Turns out that Reinsdorf & Krause were wrong, and Jackson, Jordan, and the majority of the bulls left.

This just strengthens the reasons to blame him. They didn't like him, didn't trust him & didn't respect him & it definitely was felt the same way by Krause towards them. A little humility & respect on his part could have kept them together but he wasn't capable of that.

I feel like I will always be in the minority when it comes to my views on Krause and on Bulls management. I think he Krause has become a convenient scapegoat (which isn't to say he wasn't flawed and didn't have some role in the break up). The team was old as hell, they couldn't afford to sign all of these players to contracts so they would have had an inferior team in '99. Nonetheless, Phil Jackson was still offered a contract by Reinsdorf in '99 and he declined through his own free will. Krause never should have treated Phil the way he did, but if Phil really wanted to come back he could have since Reinsdorf offered him a contract, and had he come back MJ would have come back. Once MJ retired then of course the front office dismantled the team and tried to rebuild. Phil Jackson had the power to come back and let MJ come back and he declined. It was a really tricky situation for all parties involved and I thin it dissolved for many reasons. It was meant to dissolve. The last moment we have of MJ in a Bulls uniform is also the greatest moment he had in a Bulls uniform. It ended beautifully but it was bound to end at some point and it did. Jackson, Reinsdorf, Krause, Pippen, and MJ all could have behaved more maturely at times but they all have big Ego's which is just the nature of competitive sports. I thank Jerry Krause for helping the Bulls win six championship's way more then I blame him for potentially stopping another from taking place, and regardless of all his flaws may he RIP.
@michaelcollins966
@michaelcollins966 5 лет назад
Krause should get credit for spotting Pippen, and the trades he made to get him. And also for padding out teams around Jordan. Without Krause’s player acquisitions, Jordan wouldn’t have won 6 championships (probably would’ve won a couple still). However, Krause’s terrible people management from day one meant that he’d created a ticking time bomb. If he’d had the humility to realise how lucky he was to have started with Jordan in the team, to have found the greatest coach of all time, and to have found one of the best defenders of all time, the Bulls could’ve continued into old age. But for the faults of all the actors in this drama, it did result in six championships in eight years, and we got to see, perhaps, the greatest team ever. Despite how it ended, I wouldn’t change a thing if it would risk the greatness of the 90’s Bulls.
@dcc1980
@dcc1980 10 лет назад
In my opinion Krause rebuilding was shockingly bad. Krause decision to gut the team was crap. He's rebuilding program was terrible and took the Bulls a long time to recover from his decisions. He's genius is a myth. Donnie Walsh however did a masterful job rebuilding Indiana. Traded Dale Davis for Jermaine O'neal. Traded Jalen Rose for Ron Artest and Brad Miller. Let Mark Jackson go. He's only mistake was trading Antonio Davis for Jonathan Bender. Walsh is genius, Krause is not.

Not blaming Krause "because Krause built the Bulls" is like saying you can't blame a mother for killing her child because she gave birth to it. It's not all of Krause's fault, but he, and he appointee, had the most power to really the troops and keep things thing going. He wanted to build a championship team from scratch so he could say he did it all by himself. He brought everyone in for those 6 championships except Jordan, and that got to his ego.

Comparing an NBA executive to a murderer is one of the wildest things I've ever heard. Jerry Krause was not liked by a lot of people but he was a high-up businessman. I think they may have been able to win one more in 99. It was a lockout year, but I don't think most people liked fact that he had already had decided Floyd was going be coach regardless of what happened in 98. Most fans wanted Phil to stay and if Phil had stayed Jordan would have probably not retired. Even if Bulls failed in 1999, we would have liked to see if they could do it again.I agree he was the one who built the Bulls and deserves credit. At the same time he did alienate a lot of people.

Ok people. I lived in Chicago all my life. There is no doubt Krause was a huge part of these championships. What outside observers dont understand is he had an ego bigger then Jordans. He knew he would never get the proper recognition unless he dismantled and started over. Does anyone remember how that turned out?

Jordan's hatred toward Krause went back to the 1986 season when Krause limited Jordan's minutes after Jordan came back from a foot injury. How Krause handled that situation irked Jordan because there was the perception that the Bulls were trying to get a high enough draft pick when all Jordan wanted (and rightfully so) was to help lead the Bulls into the playoffs. Jordan saw in Krause was someone who was ready to throw in the towel and that forever changed their relationship for the worse.

So it was not Jerry Krause fault? He knows about MJ's ginormous ego yet he created tension with MJ knowing the owner would side with him. So what happened after? Where is the genius of Krause? What happened to his Bulls? Phil however went to the Lakers who then turned them from a good team to a great team and added 5 rings to his fingers. So yeah Krause was a genius right? It was Krause's wanting for credit so much that broke up the Bulls. If only he remained in the background supporting the team and not crave for the spotlight too much they would have stayed.

The way MJ has always talked about and treated Krause tells you everything about who MJ really is. Krause definetly deserves alot of credit for this Bulls dynasty and its sad how MJ and Pippen dont give him his deserved credit. He traded for Pippen and put together that first 3 peat squad by drafting and smart trades and of course having the greatest player ever. He told pippen to not sign that contract and got Kukoc who is a very underrated player. He built around MJ perfectly and put up with huge ego's and insults. Winning a title in the NBA is very difficult even with a great player like MJ. The Bulls were so so clutch from Kerr to Paxson and Kukoc and played excellent defense. MJ and his tough leadership,Pippen,great defense and coaching and having a great GM is what made this dynasty so special.

I remember an interview Jordan did pertaining to the Bulls breakup in which the interviewer asked him if they were broke up due to winning too much and Jordan actually agreed somewhat with that. Doesn't really make sense to break up a dynasty due to that reason...

All these reasons "why you can't blame Jerry for the Bulls demise" are derived from the mistakes and steps that Jerry and the management board took. 1. Scottie was underpayed - Management should try to keep his employees motivation on the highest level - they should have considered paying more to Pip 2. Jerry had some personal issues with Phil - said that he wasn't going to bring him back even if they went 82-0 in the 97-98 season 3. Michael would never leave if Jerry retained Phil as a coach

Blaming anything else but the management for the broke of the Bulls dynasty, is a very comfort attitude. Maybe part of the players and coaching were responsible in some degree, but the main decisions came from above. At the end, nothing last forever.

Jordan has made most of his money with endorsement deals. Yes Pippen deserved to get payed, he could do anything Jordan could do, score, block shots, steals, etc but Pip didn't have endorsements like Jordan, Jordan shoes, hanes, wheaties, nike, etc. He was all over everything getting the big bucks, Pippen was not, his main income came from whatever his contract was, so I do believe they could have taken care of him better, a lot better. 6 championships, that organization had to be the richest in the 90's. Everyone on the planet was a Bulls or Jordan fan, better believe that organization got their money from anything sold Chicago Bulls.

Case n point...the front office didn't want to get off the money. Krause may have built the team but he wasn't expecting that result. As good as Scottie was, he should have been getting paid like a superstar. Luc Longley, Ron Harper, Dennis Rodman, and Toni Kukoc all made more money then Scottie. All they had to do was fork up the paper. They didn't so that's why it ended.

Who drafted Pippen? Who brought Phil (and Tex Winters and Johny Bach) on the staff and then hired Phil Jackson to be head coach? And no, you can't win with just Jackson, Jordan, and Pippen. They lost in '95 in large part because the didn't have a defensive/rebounding power forward. Grant (who Krause drafted the same year as Pippen) played that crucial role in the first three peat and then Dennis Rodman who Krause got for Will freaking Purdue played that crucial role in the 2nd three peat. Krause did an incredible job with the Bulls and is rightfully in the Hall of Fame.

What they don't tell you is that both Jordan and Pippen played for way less money than they were valued. Jordan only cracked open the bank in his final year with the Bulls. He made more money in that one year than he did in his entire career with the organization. Krause was stingy with the money. And do you know what that led to? It veered off any future players from coming to the Bulls. That and what he did with Pippen which is really to consider him expendable. You can say what you want about Krause. Yes he did build that team; and he did get the right guys on board. But because if his rather shady ways he's left a lasting impact on Chicago to this day. Name one All--Star player that came to Chicago as a free agent and played after '98? Zero. Not counting Wade who was over the hill by then. The Bulls have been cursed as a result of what Krause did. Don't forget that.

Not necessarily, if you're a fan of a certain team who has an owner or GM who's very media-ready, very outspoken, comes up with clever, marketable quotes, maxims, who are also perceived as bit of maverick, outlaw types. People like Al Davis, Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones to a certain extent before he started buying into his own created hype, larger-than-life personalities who aren't afraid to speak their minds or buck the accepted or unspoken rules about etiquette, preconceived notions of how sports owners mentality should be or how their going to be different from the herd mentality.

Jerry Reinsorf is the bulls owner and Jerry Krause was the GM, Michael Jordan was drafted in June of 1984 by Gm Rod Thorn and Krause replaced Thorn soon after the Bulls 1st round exit to the bucks in 1985, MJ was underpayed for years by Reinsorf up until his last 2seasons in a bulls uniform in1997 and 1998, MJ and Charles Oakley were great friends who coulda developed together, Krause coulda drafted a center outta college to develop behind veteran Dave Corzine instead of trading a young enforcer in Oakley for a Bill Cartwright who was coming off Multiple knee surgeries and injured in 1985 and 1986 and Cartwright was never the same player again that he was wit the Knicks when he came to the bulls, bulls management offered Pippen a lowball contract that was frontloaded and told him not to sign it and The 2 of them wanted Phil Jackson to coach a transition total rebuild project team after the 1997-1998 season oppose to bringing back the core players of a 2nd 3peat championship dynasty, Krause always wanted the bulls to be led by point/Forward #TheCroatianSensation Toni Kukoc who all bulls fans and I loved, look back at the entire 1993-1994season, u can blame players for the breakup of the bulls 1990s dynasty, but building a stable nondisfunctional foundation starts wit the owner and executive VP, GM, frontoffice executives

That's not true, Jordan had hinted he would have loved to comeback if management kept the same nucleus. The two sticking points were Jackson and Pippen, had Krauss and Jackson put aside their differences for one more year, the Pippen issue would have been easier to resolve. Jordan had a great influence on Pippen and would have done his part had management tried to go one more year.

Morey, Presti, and R.C. Buford are pretty good. Being a GM is a difficult thing. Also Red made his fair share of mistakes, one was passing on Tony Parker. That was Red's call according to Bill Simmons. With Advanced analytics, it will make the GM job easier to do, as more accurate projections can be made of players. Part of Krause's problem is that he burned bridges. He does work in MLB now.

All of us who have rooted for teams like I have for the Bulls over these years want to believe that those teams could just go on and on. I will always give a team with Michael Jordan, Pippen and Jackson a chance to win, especially since MJ would not have taken a break after '98. The inevitable end to the run would have come in '99 or '00 or even '01. We can always want more but at least in my mind the Bulls dynasty ended without leaving a stain of broken down players like the Celtics did.

Bottom line! Jordan, Phil, and Scottie are to blame. Jordan was bitter and kept a hateful disposition against Krause because he traded Oakley. When Oakley came to the Bulls as a Rookie, Jordan took him in, they were roommates and became great friends. Krause traded Oakley for Cartwright. Jordan didn't see the value in that and hated on Krause with a disrespect that was awful. Jordan played on Krause's weight, and made him out to be incompetent! Jordan was a bully and his primary victim was Krause. Phil was sole decision making of the team. Phil felt it was him and not Krause who delivered the goods as far as the championships were concerned and Phil believed it was his strong mindset that put the Bulls on the right road. Given the fact that it was Phil who succeeded where Doug Collins had failed with the Pistons. Phil brought the Bulls through that and made them champions. Phil wanted sole credit, but it was Krause who made Phil the assistant coach and then replaced Collins with Phil. That being said, Phil believed it was his effort alone that won those championships. Scottie Pippen was selfish! Scottie wanted to be paid as he felt that he deserved to be the second highest player on the team, and at one time he was making more than Jordan. Jordan signed a contract for 3 Million a year back in the early '80s and that's what he stayed with, Jordan never asked to be paid more even after winning MVP and collecting the Defensive Player of the Year Award. However, Scottie wanted to back out of his earlier contract. Scottie also wanted the fame that Jordan had and when it didn't come to pass he got bitter. An example of how bitter and selfish Scottie had become can be seen when he refused to come back into the game after Phil called Kukoc's number to make the winning shot. You're not going to like all the decisions made by management but you have to learn to work with them. Jordan, Phil, and Scottie refused to! They alone were bullies to Krause on a level that no one should accept in any sport or walk of human life. Jordan, Phil, and Scottie broke up that team because they wanted to hurt Krause and Reinsdorf .

He felt that way and his ego got in the was so much, that he told them it didn't matter if they went 82-0. He killed that team and organization. They haven't won anything sense. So now that the guys who did the hard work are gone, and the franchise still remains. Why haven't they won yet?

Jerry Krause's ego is what broke up the Bulls. He was jealous of how the fans and the media were praising Jordan, Pippen and Phil Jackson for the Bulls championship runs and felt that he should have received most of the credit, if not all of it because he put it all together. He wanted that attention; to be in the spotlight to let everyone know that he was responsible for it all. That's where it rubbed the players the wrong way. Krause should have just remained behind the scenes and just smile at what he has created rather than letting his ego get the best of him. That's why the players, more specifically Jordan and Pippen really didn't like him.

Why blame Krause honestly? He was one of the reasons why the Bulls were so Great and Popular during the 90's. And the team after 98? you got to look at it this way. The Bulls were aging. Jordan was 35, Pippen was 32 (who was coming off a serious injury and was on the decline) and Rodman was 37. The team was going to have to decline or break up eventually. So in retrospect, it was probably a blessing in disguise that they broke up after 98 Championship. As Jordan and the Bulls finished on top.

Then it was revealed that Phil was the only coach on the staff who wasn't invited to his daughters wedding. At that point Phil decided he was done, even though he came back. They all would've come back startin' with Mike. Phil couldn't take the fact that Krause made him, brought him outta the dungeon of the CBA and hired him, and he constantly let him know that.
