As a German I can translate for you 16:39 : "What you have done for me, I will never forget for the rest of my life. If I become a half as good father like you were as parents for me, than I am happy"
@@karlking8740 When you seek continual improvement, the rewards will follow your efforts. When you sit on your laurels or refuse to grow or adapt, you will become ripe and rot.
have waited over 20 years for this speech. There are only a few who have been given this honor. Dirk stands for the basic elements of basketball. Humanity, loyalty, diligence and a bad singer.
@@stevebates6408 Just because he said “umm” a lot doesn’t mean it wast a great speech. Larry Allen HATES publicly speaking, which is why you could tell he was so nervous. But if you stopped paying attention to the delivery and listened to the words. You would see how good his speech is.
As dallas resident and a big mavericks fan I enjoyed watching Dirk! That championship run was historic. He accomplished so much. Same team his entire NBA career. He never gave up, never turned his back on his team and we ABSOLUTELY LOVE him in Dallas! Congrats Dirk! Well deserved 💯
@cassieyounqq5752 was you at the parade? My man is a legend in every regard, I knew in 1998 when we got dirk I knew he had to be special and I made it my business to be there to root the home team to the deafening roars of the City of Dallas chant Dirks name
How can you not love this guy. Dirk is a fucking legend! And what an amazing speech to manifest his legacy. I had tears in my eyes the entire speech, but flat out cried when he switched to German to talk to his parents. Danke, Dirk!
What a humble person! I'm so glad that he recognized Jason Kidd and what he really meant to that 2011 team! Dirk is just an incredible guy! Nothing in sports could ever match 2011 for me!!! ❤
@@rummellude I know... Imagine if Kidd had not been traded in 1996, and somehow the Mavs were still able to draft Dirk... Kidd and Dirk together in their primes would've been like the better version of Stockton and Malone, one that actually turns into a championship dynasty. Oh well, at least they got one late, and it was a very memorable one!
Dirk was with NASH back in 2002-2003. Nash was at least equally good as Kidd, so no need for "what if". Back in 2000-2007 the league was utterly domianted by Lakers and Spurs, there was little Dallas could do with those superteams. And in 2008-2010 Lakers and Boaton had superteams too. Dallas indeed won a miracle championship in 2011 against a Miami suoerteam composed of LeBron, Wade and Bosh. There's nothing more you can ask to Dirk and Kidd. The only humanly possible chances for Dirk to win more championships in thise years would have been to join a superteam, like joining the Lakers before the Pau trade or joining Boston before the Garnett trade.
@@jameswalker6864equally as good? Steve Nash is a 2 time MVP winner and in back to back years. Kidd was close a few times but never got MVP. Both great players but Nash is better player on the court and a better man off the court
Dirk didn’t change the game. His step back fade was iconic, but didn’t change the game like Kareem or Shaq. There are great players and then there are players that changed the game.
Praise to Shawn Marion. In that 2011 run, he guarded Kobe, Durant, then Lebron in rounds 2, 3, and the finals. We won't count Brandon Roy since he came off the bench.
he didn't guard them. it was team defense with Tyson carrying the whole defense. lmao I can tell you didn't watch and just matched them up on paper. gotta love zoomers hahahahaha
@@ultraego1892 - If you google "Who did Marion guard in the 2011 playoffs," you will see an ESPN article that supports what this former season ticket holder watched: "Yet entering Sunday night's pivotal Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the Mavs might be staring at a 2-0 hole or possibly not even be here at all without him. They've depended on the 6-foot-7, 225-pound Marion to become a slashing, cutting threat beyond defending -- in order -- five-time champ Kobe Bryant, star of the future Kevin Durant and now the game's ultimate present-day weapon in LeBron James."
This dude went to the finals in his eight year, he lost. He was the league MVP in year 9, they got swept in the first round. He stayed until finally in year 13, he won his chip. Not many players have that patience. That's real loyalty to the franchise. Not asking for a trade after signing a supermax because you already "gave your all" to the franchise like some players these days claim.
Lets not forget he did make alot of money and was born overseas.. those guys don’t do what american players do.. at least be understanding. American players have the luxury of Aau basketball taking them to different cities etc.. hence why american stars would demand trades and be comfortable changing cities/teams
@@toohonest_ let's also not forget that you're talking about Dirk Nowitzki. After establishing himself in the NBA in the way he did, he could've gone anywhere. But he didn't.
@@bobrockmann7521 once again.. he is german born. There are no superstars that are from other countries that are moving teams.. giannis, embiid, luka, jokic… these are guys on his level.. never had trade requests
He and his teams choked in the 2006 Finals and in the first round in 2007. That wasn't on the franchise. The Mavs were the clear favorites going into both series, so why would Dirk demand a trade?
@@bobrockmann7521 The Mavs always surrounded him with talent, so he had no reason to consider leaving. He just had to finally raise his level of play. The Mavs were great to Dirk. Let's not act like he had to deal with poor ownership that didn't care about winning.
I will never forget Dirk coming to the arena listening to some soul music getting out with a foil plate. That's when I knew he was iconic. This was an amazing man to ever meet
To think Dirk and the Mavs beat KD, Kobe, Lebron & Wade in 2011 for the championship. Dirk doesn't get enough respect for what him and Mavs truly did. Yet, he still remains humble. A true champion 🏆 and now a HOF'er! Thanks Dirk!❤
@@JodyMan-io9ynand your point is? Cause if that's a reason it's a bad one because it was looking like that for DWade in 06 but guess what DWade did something about it and beat the Mavs in 06 not that I was incredibly impressed with it. So why couldn't LeBron.
Grew up hating him cause he was so good against the spurs, but I was fortunate enough to watch his very last game of his career against the spurs. Every spurs fan was on their feet cheering him on , it was really a special moment to be apart of.
I doubted dirk early in his career as a maverick fan but he proved to be one of the all time greats. Thank u Dirk for the great memories u provided for all basketball fans happy u getting recognition as an all time great going into the hall of fame
love you dirk, and the entire 2011 mavs team. thank you for kicking the heats ass that year in the finals; was the best day of my life at 16 years old. MFFL
"You are my role model, Dirk." The happiness you gave us every game, the many times you gave it your all. Thank you so much! You're now in The Hall, Champ!
er ist und war immer authentisch...einfach nur weltklasse...als spieler, wie auch als mensch...danke dircules...für die schöne zeit und alles gute dir und deiner familie
Thank You Dirk for making me fall in love with basketball you are the reason why I started playing and the reason why I am a Mavs fan for life. You are one of the reasons why I am still trying my best to achieve my dreams in life. Thank you for everything. I hope someday I get a chance to meet you and have a picture or just to meet you in person. You are the GOAT for me. Thank you for inspiring me from your number one fan from the Philippines! Stay safe always! Thank you for everything!
I'm not sure why I'm smiling as he was introduced lol...but a straight class act. Something else just hit me about this HOF class---Pau won it all in 2009 & 2010, Dirk in 2011, Wade in 2012 & 2013 & Parker in 2014 (6 years straight).
Been following his career since the beginning. Can’t underestimate how this dude changed the game being that tall and shooting that good. Incredible!!!
The world and the NBA would be in such a great place if our sports legends were like this man. I get that outside of Dallas, he may not have the same love we have for him, but he was so special in Dallas. The way he carried himself, the loyalty, and the fact that he gave it his all without being a jerk. True sports hero.
I spotted him in Würzburg when he was like 12 years and carrying a tennis bag. He was already tall and seemed uncomfortable because of his size. Now he's a HOFer...
Dirk is straight class. We were lucky with him . His skill and loyalty are once in a lifetime. I was at his his last game against San Antonio. Pop and the fans deserve credit. They yelled " MVP" the whole game and Pop " let" him one legged fade himself to Valhalla. Just a good end to a great story. Go Mavs
Dirk is one of the best players of the game and his 2011 run was a Run for the ages. I don't think there will ever be another like him Absolute Legend 🫡
@@tiagoriseabove and what did he do after that? Last I checked he got swept in the first round, dude got so complacent after one ring but y’all make it seem like he has 5 rings, and he also choked against the warriors in 08 as a 1 seed, I like him but let’s not make it seem like his whole career was only 2011
Thank you for everything Dirk. You embody what an individual should aspire to be. Your kindness, your humbleness, your work ethic, you passion, & most importantly, your respect. What you have meant to my life & the city of Dallas is more important than you could ever begin to understand. You teach us everyday that if you truly want something, you can get it if you work hard enough for it. There is nobody more deserving of this honor than you. Thank you for representing this city, this team, & us fans with so much love. We love you Dirk. Forever 41.
Great memories with the boys watching you play, and going out to the drive and attempting that one leg fade away. Not only was it kobe when shoting the rock. But Dirk!
Loyalty, that's Dirk. He could have been a train hopper, giving up on Dallas and going to another team, much like today's players. He didn't,,,he stayed loyal to the mavs and was rewarded. Top notch!
So stolz auf Dirk! What a great representative of our Country. Those values unfortunately something that get lost in Germany these days. Wish him and his family only the best and really hope he will not only have success with the Mavs in future but also will have the opportunity to influence in Germany.
What an amazing career he had. One of my favorite players of all time to watch. As a basketball fan, he always was entertaining to watch. Thank you Dirk
it's weird because it's definitely Tim Duncan because Dirk was ahead of his time and he was a stretch 4 before it even existed. I would play both together haahhahaha
Dirk, du f***" Legend. Unfassbar, seit deinem ersten Spiel gehen die Supersonics dabei. Schlaflose Nächte, Tränen, Emotionen.... Einfach danke, das du einfach Dirk geblieben bist. Das ist deine größte legacy!!!!! Einer von uns, nur viel, viel besser!!!
Greatest shooting Big man in history . Played his whole career for one team. Won a chip without any actual Superstar on his team . Finals mvp 🎉 dirk is a inspiration 👌
