Concerning Price: when he played for Georgia Tech, in the ACC, he played against some of the best point guards ever, in the league: Kenny Smith, UNC, Tyrone Bogues, WF, Spud Webb, NCSU, Tommy Amaker, Duke and Othell Wilson, Virginia . It was the era of great point guards and he was one of them.

For darn sure, Mark Price was totally underrated. I knew he was going to be successful in the NBA because I was living in Georgia while he was at Ga. Tech and the Jackets play in the ACC which gets a ton of exposure and TV time. Mark Price was priceless at Tech, and when he went to the NBA his game elevated to another level. The guy was only 6' but was strong as an oxe, super fast and would beat you off the dribble in the blink of an eye and could stop on a dime and knock down jumpers at 3 point range. A pure shooter... the Prototype of a Pure Shooter. He probably comes in under the radar because he was a Blue Colar worker, quiet and laid back... that is until he hit the floor and then he was a beast. It would be interesting to me to see where he ranks all time with the point guard? In my mind, he's a top 10 guy.

Can you imagine Mark Price in today's game, with the full-on green light to shoot threes? Back in his day most threes were really just heat checks; even the best 3 pt shooters only attempted 2, 3, maybe 4 a game tops. Give MP 8-10 attempts from three NOW? He'd have scored 30 a game for several seasons. You known, like Steph.

Mark Price was so good that when they also drafted Kevin Johnson I believe the following year Mark Price beat him out for the point guard position making the Cav's feel lets trade KJ away to shore up another position. And ppl forget how great KJ was for the Suns. Before getting hurt his avg's in the playoffs were some of the best all-time at the point guard position. Man careers cut short due to injury.... lesson is don't ever try to pick someone up who outweighs Shaq by 30-40lbs. It's not going to end well. Speaking of anyone remember Oliver Miller?

Price is criminally underrated. In part, because he wasn't that flashy. Just fundamentally sound and went out and did it every night. Still the best pure shooter ever. Another thing is, he played for the Cavs, which back then were mostly forgotten, despite being one of the most stacked teams in the East. But this just goes to show you how good Jordan and the Bulls were in their prime, as a loaded Cavs team, which would have probably won a couple championships today, couldn't get past them.

In 1991-92, when I was only 19, I hoped that the Cavs would have beaten the Bulls (to give the Blazers a MUCH better chance at the title), and thought that because the Cavs had a big edge at point guard and center (Mark Price and Brad Daugherty, over John Paxson and Bill Cartwright), the Cavs had a chance. The first NBA game I ever attended was the Cavs vs the Jazz in a preseason game at East Carolina University in 1991. Some big names were there that night, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Mark Eaton (the tallest man I ever stood next to), Thurl Bailey, Jeff Malone, Ike Austin (he was still the size of Oliver Miller at this time) and the man of the hour, Blue Edwards, who was playing at his alma mater. Then there were the Cavs players, Brad Daugherty, Hot Rod Williams, Larry Nance, Craig Ehlo, Chuckie Brown, Steve Kerr, a young rookie by the name of Terrell Brandon (he held his own against Stockton), Danny Ferry and Mark Price, but he was still recovering from the injury, so he didn't suit up. Daugherty had a big game and scored at will, Nance and the Mailman had a pretty good duel, Brown rammed a nasty dunk down the Mailman's face and Stockton was like a surgeon on the court, precise, sharp, in control. The Cavs won, a good introduction to my actually attending NBA games. When are you going to do an episode about Daugherty?
@bryant475

Nice! Seemed like a really dynamic matchup! It was before my time, I got into the NBA in my early teens, around 2002-3 ish. Stockton and Malone were just about to retire, but a young athletic Russian dude by the name of Andrei "AK47" Kirilenko joined the Jazz, and saved them from having a bad season in 03-04, they only missed the playoffs by a game! He quickly became my fav player, because of his unique all around play! I also play NBA 2K, and they have all time teams/players, as in the top 15 or so players from each team in NBA history, so I'm familiar with almost all the names you mentioned :) I actually started a season with fantast draft including these all time players, and I have Larry Nance and Mark Eaton coming off the Bench! He's one of the defensive anchors in my 2nd unit, along with Mark Eaton, and Kristaps Porzingis. I also have Gordon Hayward, Mugsy Bogues, and Doug Christie off the Bench. My starting 5 is Joel Embiid at C, AK47 at PF, Kawhi Leonard at SF, Drazen Petrovic at SG, and Steph Curry at PG!

@@bryant475 I'm from an older generation and only occasionally play classic arcade games like Donkey Kong and Pac Man. Don't laugh. But I have been to nearly 200 NBA games and seen most of the guys you named. The great thing about the NBA are the matchups. I absolutely loved watching Shaq and Arvydis Sabonis bang in the paint, Tim Duncan and Dirk Notwitzki going head-to-head, Kobe in shootouts with TMac, Allan Houston, Reggie Miller, Sprewell, etc. The late 90's and 2000s were great, especially when the Knicks and Heat met up in the playoffs. 3:23 And Mark was following in the footsteps of Larry Bird. One of only 2 players with *2* 50-40-90 seasons (Nash is the other IIRC - but on somewhat lower volume).

Wow!!! This is so overdue. Mark price was my fav player growing up, obviously I’m from Cleveland but it’s awesome to see someone give Mark his due. Thank you for a great video on Mark

Mark and Brent Price are from my hometown. An old P.E. teacher would tell me stories of how he'd come back to the gym after school, and Mark would be there for hours. He would watch him sinking 20 3's in a row.

Great post. Okay, not that kind of post (Centre). Mark was awesome. As was was Isaiah, Nash and certainly others. I have to admit that I was a point guard. It was a lot of fun and very educational. Many of these players can be watched and learned from over and over again. Timing, setups, look aways, and everything else they had. And it was a lot. I salute Mark, Isaiah. Steph and their brothers.

"The Mark Of Excellence". I got to watch him growing up. He was truly great. Its a shame those Cavs teams were soft. They lacked the physicality and grit needed at that time bc as far as talent goes they were more than capable of winning a championship.
