Shawn Kemp is one of my favorite players of the 90s! He was Hall Of Fame material!

Me too. He maybe wasn't the best of the best but he brought something that cannot be put into statistics : the fun. To me, Shawn Kempt is the embodiment of the reason why I love basketball. It is sometimes brutal, animal, athletics (which the today's 3pts shoot contests that take place in almost every game are not) and above all fun to watch. So, thank you Shawn Kempt.

@danmamo5849 Год назад
Back in those days in London, NBA was only shown on the Tv once a week Saturday 11:00am -11:45am. When I saw Shawn do his dunks, his haircut, and his childhood story, I was hooked. His dunk style was so unique and aggressive it remind me a mix between martial arts and hiphop specifically Onyx the rap group around that time. Man, I remember my weekly pocket money was £7.50 and I saved that god knows for how long to buy the 95-96 Kemp jersey for £60. Perhaps you should do a video about "if you get a chance to own your fav jersey, who's would it be?"

Kemp has a strong dunk image, but he's also good at mid-range shots and free throws. If it weren't for all the problems, he was a talent that could have been the best PF of all time. His physical ability, as well as his ball handling for a big man, was good, and his skills were high. Personally, he's my favorite PF player. He was the 1990s version of Vince Carter and Blake Griffin.

My favorite player of all time. Someone I looked up to. In my book #1 Kemp, #2 M.J. I remember getting up early in the morning to see the game. Slept 3h after the match and then woke up at 6 a.m. to go to high school. Still have his Kamikaze shoes, his poster when opening my wardrobe, Sonics winter cap and his jersey. It’s hard to remember when he wasn’t inside the nba on top 10. Also when he blocked MJ. MJ was running, took off at the same time Shawn made one step, they both went up, MJ started falling down, Kemp was still hanging up, after the MJ released the shot, followed a great block. Pity he had to leave Seattle and it ended up this way. I remember visiting Seattle. He was no longer playing. Man, just being in the Key Arena watching Seattle Storm vs Connecticut Sun, got me so many memories back of him, got goose bumps. Thanks for all the great memories Shawn. Def was my favorite player in 90's after MJ. Had them shoes and wondered what happened to him. I ended up moving to Alpharetta Ga and worked at Publix in 2001. The first time he came in I was star struck but noticed he had put on a lot of weight... Wasn't sad just wanted to tell him to get back in shape and dominate. Maybe it coulda helped him a bit. He came in weekly buying groceries with 3 same Caucasian guys... Then I learned they was his roommates and he was in rehab for alcohol. That broke me a bit

Then I got NBA Jam on Sega Genesis and I discovered the Seattle Supersonics! Since I could never do what he did I mirrored my playing style to Gary Payton then later on Jason Kidd but I always felt like Shawn Kemp was the greatest "what if" as a fan. He had all the athletic ability and was actually a pretty damn good shooter. Had I not seen this video I would have forgotten he played with Tracy McGrady, another one of my favorite players who was also a big "what if". Its fun to watch Blake Griffen and CP3, but it was better seeing the original Gary Payton to Shawn Kemp lobs. And they played defense too! Kemp was the most athletic power forward to ever play in the NBA. His athleticism was crazy. The dunks were phenomenal. He should have been a better player than he was. Kemp has a NASTINESS in how he attacked the rim. SO much swagger. So cool and "street-style" to watch. And he was not just huge but also strong and built. A MAN amongst boys out there. There's highlights of even Michael Jordan wanting NOTHING to do with Shawn Kemp going up for a dunk. The only reason Shawn Kemp isn't ranked higher in the all-time greats list is he let himself get fat and out of shape.
