I thought Dwight was just lucky withn his rebounds, but now I can see that he has a lot of fundamentals and a lot to teach...I hope someday there would be a TNT fundamentals of Dwight on BLOCKS !!
Exactly remember former pacer center Rik Smits, he is 7-4 and was horrible rebounder, that tells you height does not mean anything if you cant box out and jump for rebounds.
2 things 1: One of Rodman's best move - tipping. tip the ball till you get it before the opponent 2: he didn't say concentrating on the ball is important than concentrating on the rim. when you see your teammate getting blocked and the ball isn't going to hit the rim, you can't be just boxing out there lookin at the rim, instead just catch the ball before it goes outside.
Dwight Howard a man of God and a great athlete. God Bless him. this is the most significant besides the moving without the ball, and the man to man defense
if you have good position strength doesnt matter....im 6'4 195lbs and ive had 5'5 and smaller box me out well, and some kids can seal me completly...its all about positioning, assuming every shot is a miss, and effort. you do all those 3 you will go far.
Howards 6'11 not 7'1...but he does have a 7'6 wingspan and a 38' vertical...which no one else has in the league. hes a hybrid of Shaq and Lebron. Just incredible talent.
I'm a Nets fan and Jefferson admitted that sometimes they do let Kidd get the board. To paraphrase RJ's words, "I'm not gonna catch Wilt Chamberlain, Jason can."
Rebounding to me is just anticipating where that ball is gonna be and being there at the right time, height and vertical is a big plus However, i get boards off bigger and stronger guys all the time. I'm gonna try the tap move, i don't think the swim will help much because no one really defends like that where i play.
Of course height matters in in rebounding, I mean sure if you box out someone you are likely to get the rebound, but the best rebounders are the ones that are able to get a rebound even when they are not supposed to, or in bad position.
not really You can have both of those traits but if you arent agressive enough and you dont box out, you´ll never get rebounds over somebody with the same traits that you have
size is most important most of the time. guys like kendrick perkins dont even have to jump, they just need to box out and the ball comes right into their hands.
I think when you rebound it would be better if you had height but from experience, people with height sometimes rely too much on their height and too much on there physical dominance. I am a 58 kilo, 5'8 asian and i play guard position (obviously). Usually I get the rebound because I just got low and boxed out. Only one time did i get completely annihilated that was when a 6'3 small forward figured out that if he got lower than me i'd get owned... So in saying all this I think height does help!
i play point guard right, last game i block the guy 6 times in a game, i gott 22 points and what im realy suprised i got 10 rebounds, i watch this video before and all i can say is it help
I know rebounding comes down to guts, positioning and hard work, but being 6"11, 250+ lbs and be crazy fvckn athletic will make look things easier than expected.
what would you call Jason Kidd then? 6-4 point guard and no hops to speak of, 8.2 rpg during regular, 12.3 playoffs... positioning, ball-rim reading and the will to rebound are huge factors. Dwight defenitely knows his stuff well ^^
i dont even play ball like that, but this video is dope in its spiritual application. You gotta learn how to rebound in your Christian walk and keep the enemy from taking the ball. Tactics!
Nah man, i think Shaq and Dwight Howard are very similar in their style of play. Cause, believe it or not, Shaq "WAS" very fit and muscular like how Dwight Howard is... They both are some of the best rebounders in the league. They both don't have a perimeter shot, and have a hard time at the free throw line. And, they both slam dunk the ball and break backboards!
@terrybigteekemp Yes, and my point again is..you have to be big..and strong..i consider 6ft 8 big and strong..and i was talking about leading the league in Rebounds..anyone can get a rebound..but you won't be seeing someone that is 6ft 6 and under leading the league in rebounds
rebounding isn't only about height, in fact the greatest rebounder of all time is only 6'7, and most of the NBA leaders in rebounds are shorter than 7'0
I'm not saying dwight is not any good, i'm just disagreeing about how some people say he is the most dominant center of today. With 50% free throw, i'm just saying that dwight won't contribute on the offensive end as much as yao would. Being the second worst freethrow shooter after Ben Wallace, coaches will be forced to take him out during crucial moments due to intentional fouls
That doesn't change the fact that being big has a lot to do with rebounding. When you're not as big, like Rodman, you just have to work harder for rebounds, and that takes skill and precise timing.. but when you're big, grabbing boards becomes that much easier.
Yea his Deltoids are perfect...can some1 tell Garnett to take notes. LOL, But if he develop an Boozer stroke or even Amare he will be one of the best ever!!
use your body to push your opponent, not your hands.. as howards said, use ur hand as a guide.. BUt there's always a trick in boxing out, where you can use your hands to neutralize you opponent...
ok you obviously werent paying attention. I said Rodman was better. And I NEVER said taller makes you better, I just said its an advantage when it comes to rebounding. and I SERIOUSLY doubt Rodman can jump higher than Dwight Howard. He had his eyes over the rim in the dunk contest this year if you watched. And theres a video on youtube of him Kissing the rim.
exactly, equally athletic but not as tall. therefore advantage would go to Dwight. I know Rodman was a maniac on the glass and has better numbers than Dwight but against eachother Dwight would have him because hes taller, stronger, and can probably jump higher.
Come on more heart? i'm sure every that plays basketball has one because they want to win..if you ain't tall/big it will be tough to rebound...you won't be able to rebound as much per game..there's a reason why PF, C's lead the league in Rebounds, Blocks..They are big and strong!
@brassmonkeyjew yup when earl boykins become leader in rebounding you can tell me that..i'm sure he works harder at his game than dwight howard...being at 5 foot 5..
Dwight Howard doesn't get rebounds because he has good fundamentals (evident by his lack of offensive post moves). He gets rebounds because he is bigger, stronger, and quicker than any other center in the NBA. He needs to develop more of an offensive game to become a great basketball player.
