to be fair, as you know, most athletes aren’t showing up to athletic events while high. like kd said it’s often used as a relaxant/medication akin to wine. there are exceptions of players playing high but in my experience my teammates essentially used it for pain or leisure outside of the playing context

I didn’t start smoking until I was 18. I was an athlete in school and played well. The first time I smoked and played, I played like garbage. Muscle memory was all off. Once I started getting used to the high feeling I noticed my play would get better. Better stamina, less sore after games, I would even make shots at higher percentages.

Great video! Your points about the dopamine are spot on!
@supune

You make good points about becoming codependent on a chemical high or calm. It's not very sustainable for many highschool or college age people in terms of cost. Some people go through an ounce in a week or even a day! How much does an ounce cost? It's better getting a personal trainer with that cost or buying yourself massage therapist sessions (Not like Dashawn!). I think it's good for pain management and if there's chronic anxiety. I also recommend it as a ritualized escape for artistic and spiritual creativity once in a blue moon with friends. I think now we have to be aware of product placement endorsements in the same way tobacco and alcohol was using actors to become big business. And even though it isn't a chemical addiction I do have friends that day they need it psychologically and I think we have to think about that. If it helps someone function and helps them feel generally happier, it's a good thing, if not it's just another cost of living add-on

It can put the athlete into “A” zone; a singular force field that fades in and then out with a reflection of unique insight. A great training tool IMO, but your stance on composing oneself through master of behavioral mechanism is tantamount as well - so a paradox of many orders indeed; seemingly like there SHOULD be some cons associated - such as tolerance and dependent related factors.

When NBA players who are go go go do it to reduce the nerves/anxiety, they’ve already experimented in College and High school or at least in practice outside of games. So they know how much is the right amount for them before it reduces their reaction time, coordination etc. and even then most don’t do it too close to the game. But I agree that if a player does it regularly then they need more and more to get that high etc.

I feel like you have to actually regularly play high to realize that all your concerns about the change of factors aren't really a problem. It's spiritual training in a sense and for confidence. I'm a volleyball player and a Setter so I can totally see myself as Kevin Durant playing high especially solo and just throw and listen to music. Kind of play the feeling of success and buckets. Even if it's game day and you aren't high that's when you pull out the confidence to know that this isn't something difficult but rather playing with the same thoughts as in those sessions and the body will follow

so the point where you explain that the amount of high is not always going to be the same as well as you will build the tolerance as I absolutely correct. I’m not myself and there was a time a few months ago. I became an Abbott smoker for practicing, but when I was performing, it was all different but weed it helps you, make the practice easy by putting you into the zone but in reality what your preparing yourself is to be out of that comfort zone to stay out of that comfort zone to take the pain go through that struggle that’s why you train without weed and this was my biggest lesson leart

If its a regular game i do it before the games if its not an important game. believe it or not i actually want to win games, and i love what i do. Like i said in the interview, it takes the edge off. I get nervous before the games, it helps me relax and be on a task, that is to win games. People in the stands are a big distraction, i tend to focus on them what do they think about my performance rather then making shots, especially in the playoffs.

Long time heavy hashish smoker here. I lose some balance and motivation even the day after. I don't like to smoke at all when I snowboard cause it does limit my performance. Both physically and mentally. Weed sticks longer in your body if you have a higher fat content. And I'm not cut atm. 20% Each there own. Getting drunk is probably worse. And cocaine you only really need when raving, which is behind me now. Other drugs I have no clue about.

It's definitely not good for performance in my opinion. Pretty bad actually. I'm like you in the sense that it gets me paranoid, but with low to moderate doses I find myself doing a better job of introspection when I'm high and finding the root cause of my issues. It's almost like I do psychotherapy on myself when I'm high and relaxing before bedtime. Ricky Williams spoke about this when he quit Paxil and started smoking to help him with his social anxiety issues. When I first heard him say that I thought it sounded ridiculous, but it's actually true for some people. That being said, I don't like being high in public or doing any type of activities when I'm high. I only smoke at night occasionally for better sleep and better introspection. It's probably good for recovery also.

Athletes' can smoke weed because they have highly conditioned bodies that can recycle the negative affects of what it does. Which is turn you into a complete laze. Their bodies and minds are sharper to handle it. Your normal average person who doesnt have the lifestyle to support weed use will suffer waay more in the long run if they support using weed.

100% agree about the excessive dopamine release from phones & social media and how it decreases dopamines effect on tolerance and behaviour in other aspects such as daily functioning and performance. About the smoking in NBA athletes, do you think smoking would play a positive psychological effect on introverted elite level athletes with anxiety who can become over-aroused on external variables and bring their arousal levels down to an optimal level?

I'm surprised that the "weed doesn't give you a hangover" argument is still somehow considered to be valid. Weed absolutely gives you a hangover - like every drug, it does the opposite when you're coming off it as it does going in. If you smoke once then you're guaranteed to be burned out the next day, feeling less focus and energy. It's just unavoidable, especially given how long weed stays in the system compared to other drugs. Otherwise, great job addressing all the other crucial points in the video!

Smoking like 2-3 times introduced me to some dosage of schizophrenia that took a year or two where it didnt have capture over the way I think. I just saw some very convincing ways of how the world worked that didnt mesh well with a more scientific causal understanding. Nothing changed but everything made sense together of an elaborate story of threads of destiny. I saw everything having a perfect meaning of why I observed it. When I paid ultra attention full meaning just appeared and essentially what I saw was there was no me in control and Im just watching a movie essentially. Eventually I figured it was better to attend to the outside world then just the inner and while the strings are still there, Im able to function closer to normal but forever changed. There is no guarantee who you will be after using certain substance so my warning to any one considering it is that if you are attached to your current way of life and understanding and enjoy it, maybe pass. If you are okay to let go of yourself and curious to see what happens, just remember to keep breathing and let that parasympathetic state take control

Waste of money, don’t need it unless it is prescribed to you medically, shouldn’t be doing something with negative affects to your body if you care about your body, and just in my personal opinion people that smoke are mentally weak because they need to smoke to deal with things. Again though, if it’s prescribed to you for any mental or physical illness then ok.

Athletes should stay away anything that slows down the reaction time and decrease the balance & coordination.

I smoked for about 17 years and quit but this dude just talks like weed is the devil when it actually can replace many shitty meds in this world..... and yeah there are people who can be allergic to anything. So maybe that was the case. I read books myself so that's not a reason to say smoking isn't beneficial. And there's many things that your gene pool just sucks for you personally. You just need to know what works for you individually.

Im sorry but you’re spreading misinfo about “spiking dopamine” dopamine is not a feel good neurotransmitter and you have no clue as to what your talking about. I don’t mean to be rude, but do better research. I do like a lot of what you said, but there’s a major lack of understanding on this subject. That being said you do at least point towards the phenomena of addiction and what that’s like pretty well.

Your questions are horrible smoking at half time are you wow I don’t even know where to start cannabis is a gateway to spirituality if used around the wrong person with the wrong energy can have bad side effects if you don’t have a control over your mind with that said if you meditate on it it has huge medicinal properties please it sounds like you have never smoke cannabis in your life and the way you were asking the questions you’re being condescending
