Boeing doesn’t provide a middle of the market airframe since the discontinuation of the 757. Whether or not the NBA (or anyone else) would have bought a Boeing product is a moot point. You can’t sell a product you don’t make.

What else would they buy? They hate Seattle and Boeing and have for decades. They also hate anything American in general.

The planes could have A321LR range anyway because they will be carrying a lot less passengers and cargo than a regular A321neo. That means flights from central USA to central Europe will be possible.

The NBA owns a subfleet of 757s (75C) within Delta, that delta operates. I believed they're 75F.

Actually the planes are owned by the nba and operated by delta, in delta colors, with custom interiors. In the basketball off season they are chartered to other teams in other sports.

This isn’t a waste of money for them. They need the acj321Neos for team operations.

They’re not purchasing. They’re leasing. Probably cheaper than a bunch of individual contracts for each team.

The teams probably spent more hiring planes than they will pay leasing these new planes. And leasing will probably offer more flexibility.

They currently use 757. so apparently the capacity is needed

It's really great. Especially that planes built in a country (EU), where basketball isn't prominent, are chosen for basketball teams playing in the world's most competitive basketball league with an obviously uncompetitive plane manufacturer.

Last Boeing crashes were in 2020 caused by a problem that has been solved. The 737 max is statistically one of the safest airliners in history so I'm struggling to understand your 'keep falling out of the sky; comment....

@@davidkavanagh189 Safest airliners? It had 2 crashes within 2 years of it entering service when less than 400 were flying. Compare that to the A380 which has been in service since 2006 and never had a fatal crash, or the A320NEO which has also not had a fatal crash since entering service in 2016. The NG is statistically safer due to the number of fatal accidents since 1997. 0.17 fatal hull accidents per million departures vs 1.48 fatal hull loss accidents per million departures.

The Max had two unforgivable crashes for mainly(there was a pilot error element in both) the same scandalous reason that has now been solved and it is very very unlikely to be a problem ever again. Apart from that, zero crashes. Stats as low as that(no ongoing pattern) become statistically irrelevant so making daft comparisons with the likes of the A380, which would only need one single crash(Qantas nearly achieved that) to instantly make it more dangerous than the Max could ever dream of, make no sense at all. No straight comparisons can be easily made because none of these airliners entered or peaked in service at the same time. It is factually correct that the 737Max is currently one of the safest airliners ever made. Look back to the early A320 or 737 Classic days if you want a real flavour of how safe aviation is today, despite those unforgiveable crashes. Clearly Boeing have some productions problems they need to look at but frankly, it's a credit to their designs that they do have such an insanely good safety record even with those production problems. Think you need to explain what part you think is wrong, spending the money or the nba choosing airbus over Boeing jets? In terms of spending the money - this money is going to be spent either way, teams need to travel and with charter costs rising, teams buying planes have become more and more common as a way to actually save money.

The problem is that the powers that be in America (the nba and the media) hate America with a passion and anything that makes America look bad sells so they have made hating America their entire business plan.
