This opening for NBC's telecast of the 1986 World Series aired on 10/15/86.
The announcer is (do I even need tell you?) Vin Scully.

Great to hear some examples of the early years of stereo TV that are actually in stereo.

Glad you liked it. Way too much "synthesized" stereo back then, which was just awful.

Some background for those who weren't around: Stereo TV was an exciting, but long overdue development, coming about 25 years after the start of color TV broadcasts. Until 1984, over-the-air viewers heard boring, single channel (mono) audio. The late 1970's boom of music videos + the launch of MTV pressured broadcasters to push for stereo. WNBC Channel 4 in NYC was the first major network station to transmit MTS stereo in 1984. The Tonight Show, The Cosby Show & Family Ties were among the first to be broadcast in stereo. "In Stereo - Where Available" would appear on screen in the opening of those programs. CBS & ABC needed another year or 2 to start rolling out their stereo broadcasts. I think the 1986 World Series was the first transmitted in MTS Stereo. I was 17 and living in NYC, but we only had a mono TV & VCR, so we couldn't enjoy the Series in stereo. Right after the Series, Dad bought us a Magnavox TV & Hi-Fi VCR, both with MTS decoders. When I connected them to our living room receiver, what a difference it made! Many years later, it's fun to "hear" these same World Series games in stereo on RU-vid.

You're correct that the 1986 World Series was the first to produced and aired in Stereo ("where available"), coming just a few months after NBC's first stereo broadcast, which was the 1986 MLB All-Star Game.

Game 6 had a very good open as well. Same graphics except showing Shea Stadium on the plaque graphic, both baseball themes, and the “NBC In Stereo” Icon appearing. It didn’t seem as rushed as this because this game was on a Tuesday Night at 8:30pm and Game 6 being a Saturday, they had time for a pregame show. Unforgettable playoffs and World Series. Has to be the best total playoffs in history.

The Boston Red Sox nearly broke the so-called "Curse of the Bambino" But game 6 and 7 proved to be unfortunate. (Look up George Herman "Babe" Ruth For more information.)
