Little that they knew what that convention would turn out to be.

Sometimes, I imagine an alternate universe where Jack Kennedy would be giving his "farewell" speech to the delegates and Bobby Kennedy would have been chosen by the delegates as VP for the nominee - that is still a guess to me who the Democratic Presidential pick would have been...

This isn't a "promo"- this is the opening title for NBC's coverage of the Democratic National Convention in August '68 (with Gulf sponsor I.D.). I'm certain an announcer delivered a live voice-over during this title....1:03- "And now, from the Convention Center in Chicago, here are Chet Huntley and David Brinkley".

When I see this all I can think is how sad it is that Bobby Kennedy's face couldn't appear in the quick-cuts of the pics of candidates vying at the convention in 1968.

Imagine seeing this post 2000 and not knowing what about DNC "superdelegates"!

I don't think this was a promo, but was likely what was shown at the beginning of each session of the convention. At the end of this short film, an off-camera announcer would "Now from Chicago, here are NBC News correspondents Chet Huntley and David Brinkley...", at which time the film would fade to a long shot of the convention hall and then quickly fade to a two-shot of Huntley and Brinkley in their anchor booth, introducing that day's or night's coverage. A shorter version may have been used as a :60 second promo, minus the Gulf logo and with "August 26th through 29th, In Color on NBC" added either visually and/or via a voice-over at the end.

The conventions were a really big deal in '68. Now they are just a big snooze.

This is when the Republican and Democrat convention's really meant something now I think they're just an excuse to go out and party.
