From NBC Sports, this is SportsWorld! Brought to you by Dutch Masters, they really are masters at Dutch Masters...by Midas Car Care Centers, trust the Midas touch...and by True Value hardware stores, more than just a name, it's our way of doing business. And now, from our Stamford, Connecticut studios, here is Rebecca Lowe!
Todd Wacha Didn't have spin-off shows like the CBS Sports Spectacular did with the World's Strongest Man, and ABC's Wide World of Sports had the American Sportsman, Superstars and their longest which more than 30 years, the Professional Bowlers Your which got its start after a PBA match on the show got good ratings.
SportsWorld started off as essentially a WWOS clone (it was designed to help with the runup to NBC's planned Olympic coverage from Moscow) Unfortunately, they couldn't grab many of the big events away from ABC/WWOS-and then the US Olympic boycott killed its original vision. The show reinvented itself out of necessity (the USOC/IOC went back to ABC for 84), and while still a sports anthology series-it brought to viewers lesser-covered sports (weekly autoracing, bodybuilding, Survival of the Fittest, etc)
Beautiful theme by Mr. Israel. Danced to this as a little boy in the late '70's and early '80's. With that said, this theme IMO seem out of place for a sports show. More suited for a James Bond-type Intro to Action based movie instead.
@@Ian16545 Using a TV announcer voice. "Live from the Studios of Channel 8 It's the NewsHour with ...And now the news" playing this Robert Israel theme for 30 seconds.lol
Great theme for "NBC SportsWorld". Sounds something from a feature film, action adventure and a TV series as well. Fun Fact, Robert Israel, who scored this theme song, also did the theme songs for the Goodson-Todman TV game shows "What's My Line?"(the late 1960's-1970's version), "The Price Is Right", "Family Feud", and "Match Game"(73-79, PM, and the 1979-1982 daily syndicated version). He also did the 1987-1988 syndicated version of the game show revival of "High Rollers".
Believe it or not, this is just a small part of the full theme, which is long and glorious! You can find much higher quality version of this short version on the Score Productions demo record currently on RU-vid.
This was composed by Robert and performed by the talented musicians used by Score Productions in the 70s. These may have included session musicians (possibly even members of the Wrecking Crew),
