Thanks Adam for making my Blood Red Warbird for my 2012 Miata. I should be getting the gauge in a couple of days. I practiced using your technique on my spare cluster so I'm all set. Thanks and subscribed...
Great tutorial, but here is one addition that should be made: Make sure to not put the needles on too far/deep. I did this and at first the needles worked as they should. But after a few weeks the outside temperature got warmer, wich in my theory made the gauge face expand a bit causing it to make contact with the needle base. This meant the needles couldnt spin freely anymore, wich could be tested when trying to move the needles with my finger (they scraped/contacted the face, there was some resitance greater than the stepper moter seems to be able to handle). I solved this issue by removing the needles again and only putting them on very lightly, being careful to leave plenty of clearance between the needles and the gauge face.
