The last few you caught were croaker... The one you thought was a croaker was a grunt and the other ones with the spines were pinfish ... And that flat looking fish on the pier that guy caught was a flounder

Also the way that fish on the big rod fought and grabbed the bottom and was almost just heavy weight dragging back it seemed like you had a big stingray hooked ... Check out my emerald isle video i just posted I was catching a ton of those pinfish and grunts on my last trip !

You tightened your drag too tight. Leave it the way you had it. A big fish has to pull drag
