I think the team got more serious and tougher after Kate died. Mcgee, Tony and Abby took some time to get used and be normal around to Ziva. And Gibbs trusts Ziva with his life, but he was more caring towards Kate.

I just, a few weeks ago, started watching this show on Netflix. Two to five episodes a night. I literally cried when Kate was shot. I had learned to love her. The situation is even worse with Ziva. I will continue to watch until I catch up with the present. Multiple love stories punctuated with death. Kind of like real life.
