I will upload the musicality part of the video tomorrow as a short I want to make a 3rd gen boy group related video. Are there any dancers from underrated groups that I should take a look at?
@_lady_melz
@_lady_melz 9 месяцев назад
I’m not sure which ones you haven’t covered. But one of the groups I haven’t seen people talk about much is Pentagon, Kino and Dawn/E’dawn included, I think they have an interesting contrast in style. Also Astro’s Rocky(I personally enjoy his dancing a lot) and Moonbin(RIP). Some of them are no longer in their respective groups, but they are still worth mentioning and they are technically still 3rd gen idols

Some underrated or less known (to kpop fans) 3rd gen dancers: - Feeldog (Bigstar) - Euijin (Bigflo) - Ayno (VAV) - Jongup and Zelo (B.A.P) - Rocky (former Astro) - Roh Taehyun (hotshot) - Yibo (uniq) - Yoo Taeyang (SF9) - DK (ikon) - Hoony (winner) - Park Woojin (I know he's in a 4th gen group now but he debuted in a 3rd gen group, Wanna One) - Kino (Pentagon) - N (vixx)

Any interest in iKON? They were pretty popular at some point but the members weren't very individually famous and no one ever talks about them. I think they're interesting because they all have unique styles of dancing and heavily prioritise individuality. There's not a great amount of material because they were jobless (thanks YG) and their choreos were very typical 1st~3rd gen YG swag gestures freestyle type choreos. But they had more difficult predebut dance content+performances from their survival shows and there's also other dance videos/fancams of concert solos/YGX promo videos 💀/tiktoks with professionals that accumulated over the years. Their main and lead dancers are DK and Jay (who used to go by Donghyuk and Jinhwan before YG decided to westernise their names mid career... thanks YG!)

For me what I find cool is that Chenle didn't know how to dance until he joined NCT Dream and trained for 2 months (probably only learning the Chewing gum choreo and some basics), so he basically learned how to dance throughout his career as an idol. For him to be good and keep up comfortably with the rest of the members who are all above average dancers and had a few years of training on him is admirable.

He's a wonderful dancer but I believe he lacks versatility. That's not his fault, that comes back to opportunities to expand versatility in his dance repertoire.
@ladyy9791
@ladyy9791 6 месяцев назад
@@Blah-Blah-Blah143Could you specify what versatility you mean? Perhaps you mean his execution of different choreography. From his focus cams I always notice more details as compare with the original choreography and I associate that with style as opposed to versatility. The Dreamies have quiet a diverse discography with equally versatile choreos. From my perspective , he was able to execute them with great precision that fits the concepts but always with a sprinkle of his own sauce. Also the so call ‘lack of versatility’ could also be the result of his lack of opportunities to explore or showcase his ability. For example, in Dancing High, which was the only dance programme he participated alone, he performed different chores that had their roots in various styles.

@@ladyy9791 I'm talking, ballet, tap, contemporary, lyrical, theatrical, latin and not just hip hop, urban, crumping and all those new modern dance styles. I'm talking more traditional styles. Agreed and I think also that what needs to be taken into consideration is preservation for breathe control through some movements in order to reach those notes and blues runs that he does. I'm always wary of dancers analysing singer/dancers if they themselves don't sing and dance. I used to sing and dance so I understand how hard it is. Another thing, the techniques used for singing in a recording studio are also very different for techniques used for singing live, and techniques for singing live to a backing track vs singing live with a live band are also very different.

Jisung has been my favorite dancer out of all the Neo's since his MFAL opening, like that triggered something so specific in my brain and it hasn't been shifted by anyone since😭 I think that for as incredible as he is, for as incredible as most KNOW he is, he's still underrated, and that's totally SM's fault. The occasional solo at an awards/year end show and two years old dance shows, (and more recently the M&M with Mark) are standouts, but when it comes to Dream choreo in general, they do NOT showcase him nearly as much as they should, and that directly ties into them playing him when it comes to lines. It makes me happy to see how crazy his tiktok's blow up when he posts them because when the main dancer gets to main dancer-ing it's a hit every single time, and I need SM to tap tf in!!! Technicalities, skill level and all that aside, I'm also a huge dancer Chenle enjoyer~ Ever since Hot Sauce I have found him fun to watch, especially once we hit Glimo era🤧

Just dropping a note to say that personally I love Jaemin’s laid back and fluid style (he really popped off with those upper body details in ISTJ). And I often find myself wondering how he could have developed if it wasn’t for his injury/condition 😥 I’ve always loved Jisung (Boom is one of my favourite fancams from him) - even at points where I have preferred a different stylistic execution I’ve always admired how much he is in control of the choreo and his execution, rather than him trying to keep up with things out of his usual style. It’s a kind of place of comfort I’d like to be able to get to as a dancer (we’ll see if this ever happens lmao) I definitely agree with a lot of the stuff you’ve said about Mark (cannot unsee the flailing arms 😫). Though I do think he has a lot of that ‘special something’ (star quality ig) that really does transform the quality of his dancing and makes the whole better than the sum of the parts. I think technique is very important - but especially when I look at someone like him (talented but a bit unbalanced technically) I remember that art is a lot more than just technique. Which makes it harder to really rank haha

Mark is entertaining, right? When I watch him, I often get the feeling he is not dancing a choreo, he is just feeling good. It does not seem to be an intentional thing after hard work, he just lives the music (of course I know this is only an impression, and there IS a hard work behind it). Yet, I can not argue with such a proven analysis as we have in this video.

Tbh I do think they are one of the most even skilled dance groups overall in kpop and not because they are equally mid or weak but everyone is strong and as the rank goes through the top it’s even getting stronger. Jisung in particular imo is one of the most technically developed dancers in kpop imo and generally very adaptable to genre outside his strongest suit (popping) due to his fundamental skillset is very strong already
@theepoopydoodoo
@theepoopydoodoo 8 месяцев назад
@summernight2752 agreed. And even with dancers like Mark, Jaemin and Jeno whose dance skills are mostly from SM's training, they still are really adaptable and have strong foundations. Renjun and Haechan had obvious training outside of SM and it doesn't really negatively impact them since they trained in different styles. And like you said the Jisung, his foundations are STRONG, his popping is some of the best I've seen. So the fact Chenle can keep up with the other 6?!?!?! I have to applaud him. We've also seen his growth as a dancer, and he's done quite well, even post injury.

I naturally focus on Mark because he's my bias, but Renjun's moves are technically cleaner. In my opinion, Renjun is underrated. Mark's posture is a bit of an issue, but he impressively works around it. Haechan is very fluid and precise with great angles. I've always enjoyed Jeno's dancing too.

Agree with the opinion about the posture, over the past few years it has deteriorated significantly, but to say that Mark is not precise enough and not clean is an exaggeration. I love how you make disclaimer first and just tell to disregard the ranking if people disagree because indeed honestly Dream as a whole is really good with their own strong traits and their traits suit differently with each choreo but some definitely more versatile than others. Honestly ranking aside, I never see any NCT Dream dancing analysis as complete as this so thank you. Like I thought I was the only one who see Jeno potential in flowy moves as it shown in Dreaming choreo as oppose to his usual athletic/powerful moves. I always see Renjun and Haechan as two of the most versatile dancers in NCT but honestly the analysis is like opening my eyes further about their strength lol (mainly from surprised that Mark is below them but your explanation make sense). I also love how even with all of those great dancers in Dream, Jisung still holding his main dancer title and it’s unbothered lol, yeah honestly health related issue is something what I feel about Jisung dancing aswell but I only hope that it isn’t as severe as someone like Taeyong tbh.

I've always liked Jeno dance style (I'm not a dancer btw xd) but that was because their dances we're strong ones, like Boom or Ridin' (that was the time I started to follow them) but as their choreos became more diverse I noted that Jeno always uses so much power, I liked his style (and still like it xd) but when the choreo needs you to relax you can see how Jeno doesn't have much versatility, I mean he does it fine but I think strong dances is where he shines the most, even though I didn't expect him being below Mark xd I mean I'm not a dancer and because (what you state in your video) he doesn't always control his arms correctly, I always though he was doing weird forms haha but with your explanation it was very clear why he was above Jeno, I like your videos 'cause being a No dancer I think is easy to understand what you're talking about ^^/ great work!

I feel like the ranking of some for Renjun was not based on his individuality, since they rank him very low. He may not be as powerful as Jeno, or other members, however there is really something about his technique that is often overlooked because of his frame. I'm not saying this to bodyshame but he really was being overshadowed by the larger built members, specially on group shots. However, if you really got a chance to watch their individual fancams and such, dudeeee HE IS A GREAT DANCER. Also, isn't it amazing how two of the main vocals are at the top 😭

I pretty much agree with everything you've said. One caveat though. I think we need to be careful with analysing snapshots of 'live' performances mixed with practice room performances. For example, I've seen Mark on one live performance recently do 6 songs in a row which included him performing in 3 different units before doing 3 Dream songs. That can affect the way he performed say the last Dream song in that performance (after working hard through 5 other performances) vs a live performance of the same song in an isolated performance where he may have had sufficient break time before it. That could affect things like arm movements, groove and posture if you take into account fatigue. I think what else needs to be taken into consideration here is that SM allows their idols to 'have' and 'develop' their own unique style and presentation. It's what makes their performances dynamic for me. Yes perfectly synchronised carbon copy units are amazing to watch, but I'll prefer the charisma of groups like in NCT, WayV, Stray Kids, Treasure, Ateez, Bigbang, A.C.E., MCND and a new Rookie group like EVNNE any day. They're not 'chorus line' dancers. That's what backing dancers are for.

i agree, i think it was a little unfair to compare mark's fact check live performance to haechan in the dance practice at like 8:28, since mark's arms actually are significantly more controlled in that dance practice vid. it's still valid to say that he is therefore inconsistent, but it honestly seems like he's been particularly tired during live performances lately so i think that should be at least considered. the video was really great overall tho

you see, that is why watching dance analysis by different people is important and really fun, everyone points out something different and everyone value different things in dance... Also, I think the reason a lot disagree on nct dream dance ranking (except for ji and ch in general) bc not only each of them has a distinctive dance style but also they are not far off from each other ability wise, there is not really a big gap between them or that's what I think. I find your dance analysis interesting, I enjoyed it! I think in general dream's are underrated dancers in nct, from jisung to chenle, it's either they're overlooked, understimated or their dance ability are disregarded and I'm not really sure why. I like how you pointed out strenthes to members whose dance is generally overlooked (rj and hc) I feel like I'll come back to this dance analysis later, but what I find interesting is that some of the "technical flaws" that you (or others) point out of the members can be one of the main attractions(?) to their style.. anyway, thanks for the analysis! looking forward to that sm video

Finally someone who really has right eyes. I was always saying that Renjun Haechan and Jisung really good dancers. And for some reasons they are underrated. In Renjun case, when he dance i feel like im melting. And the sharpness he has clearly his power. Some people tend to forget that he joined due his dance rather than vocal 😂 And Haechan, the ballet definitely created good basement for his individual dance style. And his hard work payed off, since sm rookies and that mickey mouse show he grew into good dancer with well skilled technics 🥹 And the most upsetting me opinion that "Mark and Jeno is best dancers while others are not good". I heard that a lot. And that's so unfair. Like, i was watching reaction of dancer to mix and match: Jisung and Mark performance and they were saying like Mark is better. Even in the comment they claimed me as "offended Jisung boo". Agree i offended, but not bcoz im just one person biased, but bcoz they don't see others potential. In my opinion Jisung just underrated, maybe coz Mark has that ability to attract people, but for me it was so sad hearing that Jisung is worse than Mark. Despite they are mostly focused on individuality of each members, i think all NCT members are good dancers. I would like to see NCT all members ranking, but maybe it will be hard to do 😂

this is my own personal ranking too (aside having jaemin and jeno switched). Mark’s style is cool but i’d love for him to challenge himself with less typical boy group choreography. I think “posture” is a good way to explain some of his issues so thank you! And I hope Renjun is in the main NCTU title track next time to see him in a non-dream song. quite accurate ranking for a dancer, i agree. it still amazes me how the bottom 3 (chenle, jaemin and jeno) developed great dancing skills for someone who never had prior experience for it - like no basics at all. they were like blank canvases sm painted on as trainees. renjun and jisung were already dancers pre-debut so it's no surprise. i'm also a firm believer that 90% of the time, the reason why jeno and jaemin gets the center parts is because of their performing skills rather than dancing skills. although the center parts they get actually suit them (such as powerful hits during choruses), they're def the best performers of the group so it's safe to put them in front to catch the audience's attention (ntm visual-wise), esp during climaxes, "killing point" of choreographies etc. while renjun is a better dancer, i don't feel much stage presence from him. he's good when it's his part but when he's at the back, he tends to lose that level of charisma when in front. and then there's mark, well, he's mark so lmaoo

Great analysis, really appreciate your video! From a fan's perspective, I think we can really see why each of them had those strengths and weaknesses. Mark & Jeno, as far as i know, learned dancing since being an idol trainee (and school) only, they didn't really have other dancing background earlier. This shows in their weaknesses being those typical of idol dancers. Jaemin's got the same story, and it seems that his lower back injury stays and he just works to live with it. He also seems like his locking teacher favorite, kinda explains the choreo points he usually get. Chenle, iirc, had trained dancing but for his musical during his child star days. So it's not like he never danced, but he never focused on it either. But he says he learns best from his peers, which I think includes Jn's big moves, Hc's waves, Js' power control, etc. He's grown quite far, especially since they became 7 again. Renjun, Haechan & Jisung, on the other hand, have been dancing since their pre-SM days. They had their background and are particular with their own style. Renjun is good at isolations, and he likes that about himself. Kinda wonder whether him being close to Ten affects his dancing style too, bcs it definitely affects his fashion style lol. Haechan is just damn smart and hardworking; he learns fast and monitors himself diligently. We can point out any slight weakness of his performance in day 2 of concert and he'd have it fixed already the next day. and Jisung is just Jisung lol the shy kid ultimately trusts his skills the most and for a very good reason. The issue on health is on point imo; he went on a hiatus for 8 months in 2020-2021 due to knee injury - seems like he learned quite a lot about managing himself since then tho. He had issues with his stamina then, which is no longer any issue nowadays. So I think he can work any issues he's got. And overall, I agree: it's not everyday you can find a boygroup with overall dancing skills like NCT Dream. Went to their ongoing tour just recently, and they've just gotten better yet again, quite far from last year. Would love to see more of your analysis on them!

Been waiting for u to upload this because i absolutely love ur rankings 🤍🤍 I could tell that u've done aloooooot of research and everything was worded very well & in detail! I think that chenle’s lack of consistency is maybe bc he prioritizes singing over dancing on stage, as well as having lower stamina compared to others. Putting that aside, I personally find it interesting how he has grown into a fine/decent dancer despite joining the company late and has shown improvement throughout the years , especially the dreamlapse gma + poison mma performances (not implying that the other members didn’t improve, just saying this bc he is often regarded as one of the underdogs in nct in terms of dancing). Thank you so much for going into more depth abt him as it’s so hard to find ppl to analyze his dancing 😭😭😭 most ppl don’t say alot abt him in terms of dancing, but my curious ass can’t stand it lol I need ppl’s take on him bc I find his improvement to be something to take note of. I've also seen him incorporate some popping techniques when dancing, probably jisung’s influence? 🥸 idk if u've ever come across it but there was this dance ranking and analysis vid on the whole nct by k-pop dance deep dives that I also quite enjoyed and they talked abt how mark and jeno are the only dancers that dance with much groove in nct. I personally think that that’s very interesting and would like to know what’s ur take on that because tbh I sometimes can’t 100% tell if a dancer has groove or not >< Mark being “ranked” 4th in dance ranking vids is definitely not common but I understand ur reasoning and I think that ur actually so spot on! “his posture limits his movements” is a very accurate thing to say. While both mark and haechan are known for having “bad” postures (like rounded shoulders, forward head, slouching, etc) it’s so interesting how they’re quite the opposite of each other. What I mean by that is how one cannot do what the other can, for example haechan’s posture limits his ability to deliver explosive movements and certain bounces in groovy movements but he extends his body well and excels in coordination & body control, on the other hand mark is able to deliver those explosive and groovy movements but shows some struggle with coordination & body control. not saying that one is better than the other or that they should do the opposite, I’m just a simple girl who’s rly fixated on them hehe Also could anybody debunk the myth of “raising your shoulders when dancing is bad” bc it was mentioned in one episode of swf2 when a contestant tried to diss another contestant abt her shoulders being raised (i forgot who is who) but some ppl said that it doesn’t matter despite it being related to posture & it’s a known fact that posture affects dancing. Unfortunately I’ve noticed that I too am guilty of that bad habit 🥲 An example of an idol would be blackpink rosé I presume? Sorry for the long ass paragraphs & thank you soooo much for this video aaa keep up the amazing work! 🥹 nct as a whole is definitely one of a kind group that has something you don’t see much these days (at least in my eyes), they have such interesting dynamics and a variety of dance styles but ngl dreamies as a group stand out so much like it’s so crazy to think about
@facts_in_fiction

Yes, there are many vocalists who try to avoid getting exhausted/breathing heavy from dancing, might be the case with Chenle too I consider Johnny, Jaemin and Ten to be groovy dancers too. Then there are some who technically can groove but don't really showcase it often. In terms of kpop, I would say they are one of the groovier groups as a whole (which mostly means the bar is pretty low lol). As someone who mainly dances funk styles and hip hop as freestyle now, I think that KDDD's definition on groove might differ.. I don't want to say that she's wrong, but maybe her definition is incomplete. Groove can be more intricate than just bounce in the knees and big upper body grooves (which are Mark and Jeno's go to grooves) 😅

this is a really interesting ranking, i really enjoyed it. actually it was the first time i saw someone ranking mark so low, because i saw tons of people claiming that mark is top 3 nct dancers, or that he's even better than jisung. i was surprised to see him being 4th but it was explained and i understood that. i really like haechan's dancing, his fancams are so enjoyable to watch. his moves are clean and he makes dancing look easy. i love that. i really love that you appreciated renjun. i always think that his dancing skills are overlooked and he deserves more attention. ngl, i expected jaemin to be higher because i always thought of him as of lead dancer. but your ranking was reasonable and i know about his back problems, so i agree now. it was interesting to read about jeno's dancing because i always thought that he stands out in every dance practice because his moves are more strong and sharp. i didn't think of it as of good thing because i don't really like when someone clearly stands out, it's just me thing. and you explained it very well. i can really see that the strength of jeno's movements prevents him from improving. jisung is a dance-prodigy, we all know that. and i'm glad to see another ranking where jisung is the 1st place. i really like his dancing and i hope he'll get more opportunities to show it in the future. chenle had never been dancing before debuting. his training period was 3 months and dream members had to learn one version of chewing gum choreography first and then learn hoverboards version. what i want to say is that i always was impressed with chenle because he never stood out as a bad dancer, he never was out of sync. in chewing gum performance video everyone is so in sync it's really impressive. as chenle biased dreamzen, i always was really proud of chenle, because despite having no dancing background he didn't drag the group down with bad dancing, he didn't stood out, he kept up with everyone and kept improving. i really love him for that. thank you for your ranking, it was really interesting to watch, i learned a lot of new things and spent time well!!!

I kinda agree with this mostly. I have always felt that even though Mark is "technically" very good, his body lacks a bit of stability, idk like his body goes off as if it's on springs . When I see Mark, I can tell his dancing skills are a result of hardwork which is good and not something he naturally possessed but developed overtime, but dancers like Jisung or Haechan or even Renjun are naturally groovy , it's like they could have danced well even if not trained . I just find their style of dancing more stable, relaxed but still precise and beautiful. Jeno does well when power is required, but other than that he is a little too aggressive for choreos that require effortlessness. Jaemin and Chenle are decent dancers too . But the one thing i beleive NCT dream needs to work on are their on stage "gestures" . I have seen them perform so much that I can almost predict what they will do the next moment, like jeno with his obvious "throwing hands" gesture to exude power, Haechan adjusting his jacket to look cool or biting his lip, Chenle pointing his figure to the camera, Jisung brushing his hair and that expression where he wants to look all adult like, they all have 2/3 very obvious hand gestures that they probably do even without realising but just sometimes it becomes repetitive.

i won't say what's the reason but i've been kpop stans for more than 12 years and i agree with you top 3 best nct dream dancers are jisung haechan renjun while imho renjun and haechan rank sometimes change around again bcs both of them have different techniques they mastered so depends on the choreo the 2nd and 3rd rank can be changed while jisung im not saying this bc he's my bias but i swear he is the best 3rd gen idol dancer, imo he's one the same level of ten bc there's some parts where ten can and can't execute well while jisung also has his own parts where he can and can't execute well. i used to love kai dance a lot before universe introduced me to this tiny smile cookie ☺️☺️ also i love your analysis especially on mark's you found the word that i've been struggling to find about his lack and turns out it's about his less controlled arms

this is so interesting to know from the perspective of someone who actually knows a lot about dancing professionally!! loved this analysis, I dont know anything about dancing, but this was very well explained. great to see haechan complimented on his dancing style, I feel like its always under appreciated. thank you for doing this!

Your video is so interesting so I also read lots of comments on here. Very various comments. I really enjoyed reading them. There are a lot of comments about Renjun's power and stage presence. I do agree that sometimes he is less eye-catching even though my favorite dancer in Dream is Renjun. Maybe this is not a popular opinion, but I think there is charisma of calmness(ironic, but) in Renjun's dancing. He is barely overwhelmed compared to other members which causes being less eye-catching dancer I think. However because of the calmness there is subtle point the catches my eyes, especially the mentality he has or his personality as a human being. When i first noticed that it was really interesting to me cuz most of the time people(including me)feels expression or mood or impression or power whatever expressed outside from dancing(maybe i'm wrong). That's why renjun catches my eyes while he is dancing even though he is not affecting that much. Recently Renjun took a lesson from bada lee. I am looking forward what bada lee brings to Renjun.(I dare guess bada's lesson influenced recent Poison performance of Renjun)

Jisung and Renjun are the top dancers in NCT Dream. Their moves, execution, style and coordination are on another level.

renjun literally ISN’T! this video just discussed that😭 y’all love discrediting haechan but then act shocked when his fans defend him💀but you’d probably throw a hissy fit over someone ranking haechan as the best vocalist in dream so it makes sense for you to be doing that here too😂

@@hyuckAH06 Technically Renjun is better, and even if Haechan was the worst dancer his fans would still claim he was the best dancer in the whole group and discredit the better dancers in the group, because that's what they know how to do the best, to complain and spread toxicity. Also I am pretty sure I have seen you somewhere else, but I don't remember, can you remind me when we interacted again?

@@chenles_defender “technically renjun is better”😂🤥he literally isn’t like OBJECTIVELY? this video shows it? Several other videos show it 🫢😂like are you just dumb or in denial like I know you’d want haechan to be “the worst” in some category but I’m sorry but he’s too good? Like I know you probably dream about it but like??😂haechan is literally THE BEST VOCALIST and turns out now THE SECOND BEST DANCER too? That is why his fans have so much confidence you dumb shit😭💀not like renjun fans because girl that man literally goes viral and is infamous for his ridiculously weak vocals and voice cracks now THAT’S someone who’s actually “the worst” in something haechan can’t relate! It’s not his fault he’s above average in every category including rap and stage presence 🖕

@@chenles_defender “nct dream ot4 forever” whose on your dream lineup darling?🥹renjun who can’t sing a note without cracking his voice? Jisung who can’t sing or rap? Jaemin who’s a literal dozen? Chenle who strains every note above a g4, can’t support, and has the most whiny, airy weak vocals?😂like you want people to take you seriously???
