Middle aged INTP here, and I love just sitting back and observing INTJ/ENTP debates/discussions. They're perfect for each other, as you can see extreme Ni vs extreme Ne and no one's feelings get hurt. It's just rational "play time" for them. Anything from the infamous "Cavemen vs Astronauts" conundrum to socioeconomic theory to whether a person should be permitted to wear Birkenstocks at their wedding. All good stuff. (NOTE: The answer to that last one ended up being "yes," and the INTJ did, in fact, wear them at his wedding.)

Since I am from Sydney like Kristen she probably thought of the Sydney Roosters as a good example for the sketch since it seems weird on the surface. There are two reasons, the first is that because they were originally called the Eastern Suburbs Roosters or "Easts", and since the sun always rises from the east at sunrise a rooster crows first. The fans were also known as the "sun-risers" a long time ago. The other is that they changed their jersey in the 50s to be similar to the French national team since they already had the same colours of red, white and Blue and historically French sporting teams had a Rooster as their logo.
@farrex0
@farrex0 2 года назад
This is actually a great representation of Ne Kristin, I can't speak for Ni because I do not have it. But while it is funny to over exaggerate the chaotic nature of Ne, this is a more realistic depiction of how we Ne users usually talk. Also, something I have noticed on my Ne, that is shown here, not explicitly tho. Is that Ne tends to be more of a reactionary function. What I mean, is like in the example given here about chicken and the Ne user thinking about ordering some chicken. Unlike some people believe Ne ideas doesn't come out of nowhere, they come from a connection made from something someone said. So if you talk about the color orange, I might think about the fruit, and then talk about how vitamin C is very important. People might think I pulled the topic out of my ass, but no it was all connected. Because of that I tend to be a very funny person, my mind makes weird connections and I am always making people laugh.... However, because they come from somewhere, I can't simply think of something funny if I was given nothing. So when people tell me, you are a funny guy, tell a joke... my mind goes blank. If I try to be funny, it also goes blank, I can't force Ne, it just happens. In contrast, I have seen that Ni users tend to be more talkative about their ideas. Because they have processed them further, so they have more to talk about them. While the Ne user might just be bouncing and saying several things. The Ni user will take the ideas more seriously while the Ne user will be more casual about it. So the Ne user can talk for hours, but only if they are given something as well. Ne needs something external to spark the ideas, while the Ni user can talk about them even without anything external. So while Ne so random is funny, I appreciate you taking a more realistic approach to this Kristin. Of course, the Ni user might have been a bit exaggerated, maybe I would need an Ni user to give input of how realistic it seemed to them. But at least for me, that is how Ne works.
@oasis8172
@oasis8172 2 года назад
I can confidently say: Ni demonstrated here is accurate for how I think and how I talk. Especially if I'm passionate about a certain idea. I want to understand the why underneath the surface. I want the understanding as to why this is the case. Could use people for example when it comes to psychology. If a person is behaving a certain way that I don't understand the exact reason, I'm going to think of the possibilities and then zero in exactly which one is the correct one that seems the most plausible. Basically eagle vision. The eagle sees the trees (possiblities) then locks on to the rabbit (target) with focus. And I could always ask the individual why they do what they do but thinking about it just seems more fun. As for losing my train of thought, that's accurate aswell. I had moments of thinking about something, then gets distracted, only to forget what I was previously thinking about. I might remember in the next few seconds, minutes, hours, months later. There's a chance I will never remember ever again. So as long as I have that focus, I'll do fine. Although, I don't mind adapting and following the train of thought of an Ne user when giving out different ideas or perspectives since I want to engage and see those different areas I never thought about. Like the video here. I never thought about it that way soon as Ne brought it up and I could see it being possible. Now unless I don't want to see other perspectives and want the answer; yeah I can be like how it was presented in the video.

@@oasis8172 I see, I see what you mean. And I can see now, how Ni users can get mad, when we cheeky Ne users change the topic. My Ti works somewhat similar, but instead of being directed towards ideas it is directed towards reasons. People can't ever get me to do anything, unless they tell me why I should do it. For example, if someone at work tells me, you should do it this way, I will respond with "why?". And if they don't give me a compelling argument, I might try and do it my way. Because of that, I am also interested in why people do things and me understanding why they act a certain way or think a certain way, helps me understand them. But due to my Fi blind, when people told me, because i felt like it, it baffled me. I would be like, "what do you mean you have no reason?". Specially in important decisions. Because of that, I am inclined to explain myself to other people when I do something. Which on Te users I have noticed, it often comes as an excuse. Which I never if rarely try to excuse myself, so it always baffled me they come to that conclusion. I am like, I just wanted you to know why I did it that way. I do so even if the outcome was good, but when the outcome is bad they take it as an excuse. But when someone does something baffling to me, and I ask them why? and they give me a good reason. I would be like, "hmm, that is a compelling reason" So even if the outcome was bad, if the reason they did it were logical to me, I wouldn't hold any grudge to them. So i can get stuck in trying to understand things. While people want to move one. My boss might want me to do something, and I might be like "why?" and he would be "because you have to". Due to Fe, I do not tend to be stubborn in asking, I might process a pro and con spreadsheet in my head. Of how willing I am to silence my Ti vs pissing off my boss. But I will also try and do it my way, which sometimes turns out I find a better way to do it and I get rewarded. Or it turns out it was worse and call me out on it. But even then, the only thing that helps it keep balanced, is Fe. If it were up to me, I could spend years finding the perfect method, but because I do not want to piss my boss...

Ne has a reputation for being “the quirky random function”, but it doesn’t feel random to Ne users, because it actually isn’t random at all. It does see actual thematic similarities. My Ne connects things in ways that feel really self-evident to me, even though those things may not be commonly seen as connected. I also don’t see it as “making” connections, because the connections feel like they were always intrinsically there. Instead, it feels more like “discovering” connections. As an Ni dom, it's not an aversion to different perspectives but rather a need to get my point across before the conversation deviates. I actually love looking at stuff from different perspectives. (In fact, that is part of Ni itself: deep diving into a topic to discover new things about it involves looking at the same thing in different ways and perspectives.) It's just that I've usually thought about and judged a lot of these perspectives in my mind already, and jumping into my analysis of each perspective can detract from the thought that I want to communicate in the first place. If I tell something an opinion that I have, I want to be able to finish my thought before we go into different avenues of conversation (even if it is just different perspectives on the same topic). After I communicate what I want to, then we can debate and go into my thoughts on different perspectives of the same issue.

I am Ne aux and I am neither, but perhaps the dominant Ti does for me what Ni does for you in this regard. I think that fandom has more to do with Fi, my father loyal football club fan and skiing fan and you can clearly see that any rationalization merely a slave to that valued conclusion. An Ne user will be able to compare and contrast things (Si) and find many connections (Ne), my brain says, ooh blue socks with sparkles (very pretty), hmm thats some good knitting but that loose spot will cause a hole later (imagines exactly what will happen depending on points of tearing and whats likely to cause the future hole in my head)... and the Ne user says, that sock is blue, oceans are blue, hmm i should go to the beach, did the knitter feel inspired by color psychology? speaking of psychology... tbf i also can struggle knowing where my Se ends and my Ni begins, though this video did a great job showing my thought process when I get on my grand speeches.

I would say your second part might be because of the second function Fe that INFJs prefer, which is why you take time understanding "other people's" perspectives. For me as an ENTP, I don't form my opinion based off of other people's perspectives, it's more like other possible perspectives in general. I try to see every possible viewpoint, but with Ti I think it comes more off of what I think makes sense as a perspective. Another thing, your third part, coming to conclusions, is not a very Ne thing to do in my experience. I don't usually think that I will ever be able to come to a true conclusion, perhaps because Ne is always searching for more information (even here I'm doubting this sentence and trying to remember if I've ever "concluded" anything)

I'm the same! I am able to see where others are coming from and show different perspective, but only if I'm reacting to ideas of others. Maybe that's because of Fe that wants to include everyone's opinion? When I talk about my ideas,I will zoom in and focus with some kind of tunnel vision.

There was some talk on the patreon page about how this person is probably using Ni with Te. I believe I’m also an INFJ and in this situation, my Fe never would have allowed me to keep steering the conversation back to what I wanted to focus on in this way. I’d probably have gone off on the chicken tangent and wondered more about it when I was alone later. I feel like I keep my Ni perceptions largely to myself and what I put out into the world is going to look more like Ne or Se most of the time. It seems an easier way to relate to people. Even if you’re with another Ni dom, you’re probably digging into two different rabbit holes and it’s hard to do with someone else. In the rare case that the perception is fully formed, I put it out there. Or it may come off as weird questions that probably seem out of left field but make sense in my head (again looking random and Ne-like since the person wasn’t privy to the line of thought before).

There is something to be said about some of the descriptions of MBTI that are less well reasoned. In this case, I'm an INTP, and according to (some) MBTI concepts my Ni function would be called "critic". And in that case, the description of what that means fits perfectly: Ni is the reason I "don't allow myself nice things" etc, because (almost) every time I make a decision like buying something stupid, I have an inner Ni Dom criticizing that decision. And of course that voice may be present in many other situations. But it RARELY ever will be observable by someone else, so mostly it's self-critisism, because that would be rude, actually it's mostly an inner discussion between Ni and Ne, with inconclusive resolution. To the outside I will mostly behave Ne like. Devils advocate, generating perspectives like crazy.

I'm an ISTP, and this video made me realize how similar Ne and Ti can look in a conversation. Might sound weird but hear me out: An Ne user might take an idea that is being discussed and start talking about a topic that seems disconnected or irrelevant to the conversation, but internally the user has found some abstract connection between the two things. (This is my basic understanding of it; my understanding of intuition is limited since my mind favors sensing greatly). Well, when I am in a conversation with someone, something similar happens: we may be talking about the solar system (as one does, obviously) and while talking about it, I'll suddenly say something like "did you know that Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system due to its thicker atmosphere, and not because of its proximity to the sun?", and then I'll start talking about Venus or about misconceptions of the Solar System (Yes I am a huge nerd for astronomy). The thoughts seem disconnected, but there is a more clear link between them made by some logical explanation or fact. However, in a real conversation, it might also feel like it came out of nowhere to the other person.

It is complicated to compare them, because Ne and Ti have different roles, but I thought they can come off as similar too, for a different reason: Ti is always looking for inconsistencies and poking holes on stuff, so while Ne users are expressing different perspectives, Ti is looking for ways to break their logic. I guess that is why TiNe is seen as the best combination for debates.

I've been trying to really grasp the difference between these two for a while (myself being an Ne user) and just had an epiphany that I think explains it in a way that feels concrete and experiential for me vs. abstract. Both Ne and Ni want to understand the generalized rules or "concepts" behind things. They want to understand how the specific thing they're perceiving (event, object, information etc.) fits into the larger scheme of the world. What is it an "instance" of? For both Ne and Ni, things are only meaningful when they're "an instance" of a particular pattern or framework. When they exemplify a particular concept. I never resonated with the description of intuition as "pattern recognition", because my own Ne never felt that way to me - I never felt like I was going out "looking for a bunch of patterns", and if you asked me to tell you about some patterns I saw in the world, I couldn't tell you anything. But if I reframe "recognizing patterns" to mean that every time I come across something, I try to understand "what concept it's an instance of" (i.e. where it fits in my framework of the world), then that makes perfect sense, and it's something I feel myself doing all the time. Now, both Ne and Ni are trying to understand what concepts the things they're seeing and experiencing are "instances of". The difference is where they focus their attention. For an Ni, they focus on the concept and hold that as their constant. So they're looking for many "instances" of one concept. Information is meaningful to then when it can be applied to that one concept, which they often hold as a universal truth. So the way they use "pattern recognition" is by finding as many instances of their one concept, and using those instances as data points to refine their concept. Ne's, on the other hand, focus on the "thing", and hold that as their constant. So instead of trying see how many "instances" fit into one concept, they're trying to see how many concepts fit into this one instance. They want to know how many different angles they can take to look at something, and what they can learn about what this instance "means" from each of those angles. So they use "pattern recognition" by finding as many concepts for their one thing, and using those concepts to highlight and illuminate different aspects of that thing. So to conclude, Ne and Ni are both applying generalized concepts to the things they perceive in order to understand them. But Ne's just care about the thing that's right in front of them, and want to understand that thing as thoroughly as possible by applying different lenses to it (which gives them a strong structural understanding of things, for those of you who are familiar with socionics), while Ni's care about understanding some deeper truth about the nature of the universe, and use the things they see or experience as tools to refine that truth or vision.

I actually perceived the ENTJ vibe there. I think the Te is talking the most instead of Ni but it's kind of obvious both functions were trying to expose this problem and to delve into the origin of the reasons why things are like they are. And somehow, I'm with the Ne Dom. Man, people are just simple sometimes. Not all the actions must have a deeper meaning behind.

As an INFJ, I SOO understand where the Ni in this is coming from! AND the Ne sounds like the ENTP best friend in my life.
