Calm down? Haven't you been here long enough to know that if a driver in close proximity to a sans permis can do a dick move, they *will*? I've seen some breathtaking examples of terrible driving, including an HGV that went around at speed and cut in sharply to avoid wiping out the school bus (and overcorrected and nearly hit it a second time). FFS! Don't get angry. Just put the kettle on and carry on with your life. It's not worth getting stressed over the continual parade of stupid.
Oh, and those scooters are awful. Around here there's a teenage boy (maybe 13~14) who carries his little sister (maybe 10) in front of him. It changes randomly between the pavement and the road, doing about 35...in a 30 zone. At least the little girl is smart enough (or maybe scared enough?) to wear a helmet. I have to keep an eye out for them as that little cockwomble has exactly zero road sense.
Thanks for that, in fact this runs deep. The truck belongs to the neighbour across the street (although he wasn't driving). He is converting a barn across the road into a dwelling and so is causing parking problems. For example, this morning he parked the truck with a trailer carrying a motopel in front of our place, to the left of our entrance. Then parked one of those crappy Citroen Nemo vans to the right of our entrance. Result, my students this morning had nowhere to park nearby. He did the same thing on Thursday when I went shopping, so I couldn't see anything coming up our street from the left & right. So simply not a sans permis thing, but an obnoxious neighbour being dangerous.
Yes scooter users all seem to take the same risks. They are particularly dangerous when they use the pavements. Some can do the speed of a 50cc scooter (meaning a moped), yet on one of those you have to wear a crash helmet by law. The other day we were coming back from our eye tests, when approaching a roundabout in the next town, we had two teenagers weaving between traffic. One on a scooter and another on a very small electric bike. They cut up a van about to join the roundabout - and so began a nasty argument between them and the van driver, which held us all up. They went over the other side of the road without looking and the went off at top speed along a road that serves the local cop shop... Not the best of moves, but it would have been nice if there was some karma that day.
