And to think someone in history really jumped in the ocean with nothing but a sword to fight a great white shark and he really managed to get it twice and saved his father.. but unfortunately later when they tossed ropes to pull them out the water, the great white shark 🦈 leaped out the water and bit him in half ..but it takes 🏀🏀 of steel to jump in the water to face a +400 million year old Apex predator and in its habitat.

I was on a church youth outing 30 years ago and we went to Avoca beach nsw Australia. It was just on dusk and some of my male friends were surfing. Myself and a girlfriend were about waist deep and talking and just enjoying the water and company. Before entering the water we all said a prayer as a group and started our weekly activity. We must of been in the water for about 20 minutes and I started to feel really uneasy. I didn’t say anything right then to my friend but when I turned to look at her she was looking at me strangely. We both had the same uneasy feeling. Straight away without talking we headed very quickly back to the beach. A minute later our friends that were surfing not to far from us started shouting shark, get out of the water. We turned around to where the shouting was coming from and the shark was only a metre away from our friend. I know we were being watched over that day. We listened to our uneasy feeling even though we were enjoying ourselves. I have since been told dusk is a time when sharks like to feed but I have to say seeing that shark that day I don’t go any deeper than my knees in the ocean. Just can’t get over the fear. I’m am amazed that some shark attack survivors can get back in but I’ve never been able to. Just to afraid!!!!!

Makes me wonder why we still mostly make black wetsuits for divers, surfers, etc., and then up-charge for any camo type wetsuits? Why not just make more colorful wetsuits that are affordable for the regular diver/surfer/swimmer? Might lessen the chance of a shark attack who knows? This is why I go diving in Rhode Island and Gloucester and not Cape Cod where our seal population has been doubling every year making it a kill zone for swimmers.

Right? I watched several documentaries last night and throughout each they talk about the color of the black wetsuit, some talk of the yellow on surfboards additionally looking like sea turtles of Hawaiian island spots where turtles are common diet for tiger sharks... started wondering why in the world black wetsuits are still the standard. Why don't they use red or neon pink or something that is completely different than marine animals sharks expect to eat?

When I heard that comment, I immediately thought of the two videos I've seen of Orcas preying on adult sharks (one was a Great White, one was a Tiger). In both cases, the Ocras grabbed the pectoral fins of the sharks, flipped them over, and then held the sharks upside down until tonic immobility set in. Dales Lane's joke was funny. “The shark’s only mission is to eat”. Well, no one knows that for sure in this instance. Sharks of many species are also territorial. Both wild sea and land animals will defend their territory. Female sharks are known to give birth to their pups, and fiercely defend that area for extended periods of time. Bull Sharks have the highest levels of testosterone in their system, than any other sea or land based animal. So defending their territory is a perfectly natural behaviour for them. Many Bull shark attacks may be the result of a person unknowingly entering their territory. We cannot simply always conclude that an attack is driven by a “potential food source alone”.

Yeah to survive the jaws of a cold, heartless, entirely primal death bringer only to gaze upon its hollow steely gaze, then manage to claim ultimate victory over certain death after telling the God of death 'not today' by holding your own against a literal sea beast dreaded and feared by every swimmer, many people's worst primitive nightmare, must be a completely life altering and humbling experience indeed. I wouldn't want to ever face that type of fate, it's terrifying to even contemplate. But God knows if I literally fought for my life against a shark and managed to survive, I'd have to think that God has a purpose for me because there could've been many more ways he could've died during an underwater predatory shark attack (the shark is only acting out its survival instincts, I obviously can't fault it, human perspective doesn't apply).

Intuition saves you. I had a close call. I don’t dive anymore. I’m good! It was fun while it lasted! Couple of scary moments. But that close call. No. It finished me. And I wasn’t spear fishing. Those were scary moments... alone diving the reefs down by bathtub beach. Reef tips came in. 1..2... they hit a beautiful grouper then bam 4. Feeding frenzy. I moved back against the reef and slowly made my way back up. One caught my eyes. It circled fast and each time it got closer and closer. It hit my leg. It was like sand paper. I got prickled.. I knew then go! As I hit my arms on the reef and pulled myself out the teeth grazed my leg. On the front and back of my leg and heel. Tapped my ankle as well! Fricken the scariest moment I’ve ever had! No bridge jumping, no spelunking, no horse back riding gave me the close call I had that day😹 I’ve never gone back diving. Gods hand must have kept me safe... I have even wanted to go spear fishing. Nope. That day lives so vividly in me. As the saying goes scared and smarter. Yes indeed! That’s off my bucket list! Check!

@supercal333

I've ignored that feeling many times and nothing happened. If we listened to it every time we wouldn't do anything. It's an instinct but doesn't mean it's right. There's no logic to instinct. Every single one was a total surprise to the victim, either that or they expected and saw the attack coming due to marine life activity or visual communication of the Sharks behaviour. There is no special sense that happens.. You obviously don't spend much time in the water.

White Sharks do not mistake us for seals, plenty of people have experienced how white sharks size you up and even specifically selected its target they even pop their head out of water or swim on its side to view those who are in a boat or kayak. Reason many survive when attacked and bleeding is because many get saved and pulled out of the water in time before it attacks again because they start with a bitte and back sow you bleed to death before predation.. One example is what happened in NSW with Simon when he was swimming and it clearly shows in the footage that it came from behind bitting his legs and what must have been traumatizing seeing his lifeless torso floating closer but the shark was not done it suddenly took the rest under and consumed him..

They don't, really. The likelihood of being killed by a shark is one in 3.75 million. Furthermore, there are over a billion sharks in the world currently, meaning at some point or another, if you have ever swam in the ocean, you are guaranteed to have been swimming with a shark at some point, even if you don't know it. Its all well and good to make a video about survivors of shark attacks, but you can't deduce that it is a notion that can be applied to an entire population or species. That's like watching a video of less than 10 psychopaths and saying that everybody is now automatically a psychopath too. There are also outliers within every quantitative and qualitative study to do with anything. There will always be someone or something that does not fit the status quo, that doesn't mean that the entire sample is now akin to the outlier's qualities.

Sharks don't see color. They see contrast in shades of grey. The best option would be to wear patterned diveskins or suits that are broken up and don't appear as a large "high-contrast" object moving through the water.

It goes to show that while sharks shouldn't be condemned and feared as something evil, they're definitely animals to be wary of when you're in their habitat. Understanding them better and appreciating their roles in their ecosystems will go a long way in showing them respect both as amazing animals and potent predators.

I Live in Australia and honestly in the 18 years of being alive I’ve never seen a bull shark or any big shark in my life. I’ve only seen port Jackson’s 😂🤣 which are little sharks. And I live in a bull shark hot spot. I don’t fear the ocean I just know that I’m entering their environment and that they need to be respected and protected. In saying that though I know the risks. When my Dad and I go diving we have a shark shield on us as a last resort. Sharks need to be protected and respected as they are important to the ecosystem but we must remember the risks. They aren’t puppy dogs just because they need to be conserved.

You know there’s 70 unprovoked shark attacks each year. Think about how many hundreds of thousands, even millions of people swim with sharks, dive with sharks, serf in shark territory or swim in areas of heavy shark activity. That is most number is most likely in the millions. Let that sink in. MILLIONS. And how many people actually get attacked much less killed? 70. Only 70. Even if the number is much less, the amount of shark attacks is an extremely tiny percentage of that whole. And people ARE in the ocean and They ARE around sharks.
@Alex-vq9vj
@Alex-vq9vj 4 месяца назад
Because actually *hundreds of millions of people* go into the oceans of the world, every single year. Compared to the gigantic numbers of people swimming, diving, surfing etc attacks on humans are factually very, very rare. Much rarer than pigs and bees killing humans. Like, that guy was a freaking abalone diver! He goes into the ocean every single work day, diving multiple times per day: right in GWS territory with their main prey literally next to him! It's the most dangerous of all professions in the water according to ISAF statistics.

@@joanbaczek2575 sharks aren't nasty. If anything, humans have put the sharks homes at risk with global warming. Sharks are moving closer into shallower water to find food. You'd be surprised how many times ppl have been swimming in the ocean with sharks all around them and they have no idea. We're in THEIR territory, their homes, we need to respect that about them and realize that they're apex predators. We may be on top of the food chain on land, but it's ignorant to think that sharks aren't going to attack if they want to wherever they want to. It's their territory! Their home. Your attitude is just disresptful and shows that you think you're above a shark in the food chain. Sorry but in the ocean- you are part of it.

Nor would I do the same past Daytona, all the way up the coast; with the myriad of black tips, bulls, and others. We ARE in their territory. Sho Razorblade nah, I’m not going swimming in the ocean anytime soon so it’s not a problem really. Even if I did get attacked by a shark, obviously not something anyone would want it would be my (the human’s) fault. You enter their world and run the risk of coming into contact with them. If they think you are prey or are even just curious that’s just what they do. They’re not monsters but they are predators.
@angelaward5233

I agree. And what kills me they always make the great white to be like this huge monster. If they bite you it's bc they're testing what's edible, or mistaken you for a seal. Now the bull shark will attack before any other shark and that's bc they have like enormous amount of testosterone in their system.which does make them quite more aggressive than any other breed of shark. But I agree its like society has labeled an animal for being in its natural habitat and what society seems to forget is how to respect all creatures sea or land. Apex predators are gonna be just that an animal who knocks you down the food chain. What society also seems to forget that humans kill more sharks in a year than sharks do in a lifetime. It's the news media make sit world see e than it actually is.
