I bought the Neato D80 November 2017. The robot quit working in May 2018. I emailed back and forth with the company for several weeks. They replaced my robot the end of June 2018. Now the replacement quit working in November 2018. I bought a new battery for the robot in December 2018. The first of February 2019 the robot has quit working again. I have been emailing back and forth for several weeks with the company. I was asked to send them all of my original purchase information and some pictures of the floors and the lighting in the house and where the docking station was. I sent them all of the information that was requested and they stopped corresponding with me. I haven't heard from them in two weeks. I resent all of the info and asked them twice why they will not respond. Today I called them and now I am starting over with a new technician. We will see how it goes for me from there.

It is a while since they put this Roomba i7 on the market so common sense would tell me that the price of it will go down, however instead of going down it went up. From $949.99 up to $1.099.

I’ve owned both and I will say, whatever you buy you will be thrilled either way. What it came down to for me was is the extra $400 worth not cleaning out the bin for the Roomba and the Roomba it was a bit more clunky around furniture in its navigation bumping into things. So I went with the neato. With the zones now available on the neato it comes much closer features wise. With that said, the cleaning base was amazing and so hard to get ride of. To me it came down to price and navigation over auto bin cleaning convenience.

I have tossed around making this purchase for some time but I am glad I did🌼 The fact that I don't have to worry about vacuuming at all makes it worth it. I can schedule times for it to run and which rooms I choose to have it vacuum. Very through and the fact that it goes much slower then you and I would vacuum, It picks up more when it goes slower giving the carpet a better clean.

Good review! I'd just like to point out that the Roborock S50 also uses LDS sensor like the D7, but it has no problems with moving the docking station. If you move it then it spends 3-4 seconds looking around and then it auto-updates the new dock location on the saved map. Also, if you pick it up and move it to another room, and start it there, it will recognize where it is, and show up exactly at that point in the map. So I don't think the camera system is better for these kind of things. The LDS system is much more accurate overall. It's as you said, just software coding. The LDS takes extremely accurate distance measurements of the entire room, so it will quickly be able to know exactly where it is within the map, as long as you code it properly. :) Another thing that I like about the Roborock is that you can drive it around manually by using the "go to" function when generating the map that's going to be saved. It doesn't have to perform a complete run in order to generate the map. Hopefully this will be adopted by the Neato team as well. :)

i received irobot roomba for Christmas so Im not complaining on which brand I got. After veiwing this you tube , yes there is pros and cons. I personally like the extra feature of the roomba being able to suck the dirt into a vac bag when done doing its job. I dont like that it needs lite to run. I dont like that you cant set your zones you want to vacumm but then I can use the sensor blocks to put in areas that I dont want vacummed. overall Its pretty much the same between the two. what one doesnt have the other one does or there is a round about way of getting the job done in the same consequences. Does a great job and I noticed with having the unit I am dusting furniture less often. Thanks Roomba!

Vimildar I used a Roomba i7 just a few days ago in a one-story house with hardwood floors and three(!) cats and it did an AMAZING job on all the pet hair and all the other dirt in all the rooms. If pet hair is the only factor that’s keeping you from an i7 I suggest you consider going for it.

@MakinaMotze
@MakinaMotze 5 лет назад
If you live in a hairy or very dusty household, the self-emptying bin is a lifesaver. This is so much better than my 980 which would not start every morning because of a full bin. If I forgot to dump it before going to bed, the scheduled morning run would not happen. I can now schedule specific rooms, like my foyer, to be vacuumed more than once a day and the family room and dining room several other days in the afternoon, in addition to the whole house run in the morning. Yes, it's expensive but the features justify it, IMHO.

Bought the i7+ a few weeks ago. Brilliant. I never have to deal with dumping out the small bin on the robot or with de-tangling the brush. You can also now specify no-go zones on the Roomba map. In my view the Roomba i7 and S9 robots represent the current state-of-the-art. You'll pay for it, though. For years I had thought robot vacuums were toys. I was wrong.

I have a Neato. It worked well for 6 months, then it stopped charging, disconnected from the Wi-Fi, and dis not light up at all. We had some issues getting a hold of support, but eventually they agreed to fix it. We sent it off to them and they fixed it no charge. They even covered shipping both ways. A robotic vacuum of some sort is a fantastic thing to have, especially when you have two dogs that shed a third dog's worth of hair every day! We fill up two of those dust bins every day

I literally watched your video 7 minutes after you posted it because these 2 vacs are what I’ve been deciding on getting. I currently had the Roomba 980 and it was great but wanted something new that would do the main house. I decided to get the neato D7 because the cost was significantly a lot cheaper. Here’s my thoughts ,the neato is more quite than the Roomba. I ran the Roomba 980 yesterday morning and then ran the D7 last night and the dirt bin was completely full of dirt and dog hair. I’m thinking since the Neato has a beater bar type system it’s able to collect dirt and grab pet hair better than the roombas rollers. However the Neato seems to be getting caught on EVERYTHING, We have some longer "Shag" type rugs through the house and Roomba had NO problem cleaning on them and NEVER got stuck, The minute Neato rolls onto it the vacuum stops and gives an error about its brush is stuck....... I remembered the XV21 did the same thing....Another thing I decided against the i7+ was my Roomba has on a number of times collected receipts, and small objects I dropped that was easily retrievable from the dust bin, with the i7 once it gets to the dock and gets cleaned out you will be making a big mess and destroying the bag to get to what ever item the vacuum collected. And lastly the boundary system, This was my biggest reason I wanted a new vacuum, We are starting to leave the back sliding door open for Winter, The 980 climbs over the sliding door tracks and proceeds to vacuum the outside pool deck and even sometimes gets stuck in the yard if we dont catch it...... We have tried the LightHouses but between the way our blinds are setup and the dogs it always got moved ever so slightly allowing the 980 out the door, The Neato has the No Go Lines, so I just draw a line at the door and it has not yet passed that line, From my understanding the i7 still uses the light houses for its boundary system. (Please correct me if im wrong) So far the Neato D7 has been great even with it not doing the rugs. It seems like every time I send it out the bin is always full (We have 2 dogs and 2 Ferrets) which looks like it does a better job than the 980 we had. They are both great vacuums and both have pros and cons in different areas. Great review!

I'm so happy with my neato XV series. I have had it for probably for 3 or four years now. I am so amazed. The suction is extremely good for a robot vaccum, I hear compared to others it is probably the best suction. It literally picks up every square foot of space, especially running it multiple times a week will be sure to get everything. Super solid and robust little robot.

Everyone look at the neato at the end of the video when it’s on the ottoman spinning around. You will see white marks where it bumps and turns and hits objects pretty hard. Especially back of the robot it backs up on stuff in comer and backs up your wall and baseboards. I had several neatos and I got a Roborock due to this. Can’t believe as picky as this guy is he lets likes the robot to run his stuff like it does. Also you will notice he didn’t show it go around chair and table legs. That’s it’s weakness. Just an issue I had and wanted to pass it along. The neato does have great power though. But not enough for me to justify it ramming and marking up my walls and tearing up my piano, table chairs and coffee table legs. It works great on the extra care but you can’t use that option on a scheduled clean. Defeats the purpose and it won’t even go around table and chair legs with this option . It totally avoids them.

We returned our Roomba 980 to Costco after only two weeks because of the hassle of emptying the bin which is quite small. We now have a Roomba i7+ and we LOVE IT! In our opinion, the extra cost is worth the money for the automatic bin emptying feature, totally awesome. One thing you didn’t talk about in your video is the i7’s no go system which works fine. It just involves no go units as opposed to the mapping system. We have no experience with the Neato unit so cannot comment about that.

In Germany, the Neato costs half the i7+. That's one point. To everything you said: the Neato cleans better on carpet, it's the brush. The i7 can also cope with thick carpets - unlike the 980. The iRobot is more careful and almost never gets stuck. With the previous models Neato always had problems with the laser motor, the belt and the side brush. Let s see. If there is no long hair in the apartment, you rarely have to get your hands dirty. Hair is a problem with all robots because they plug brushes and drive axles. If the money isn't important, the Dockings Station makes the difference - very cool. And good competent video

Great review.. I bought a Oregon Scientific vac robot last year and very impressed with the results of the vac. I think once this guy expires, I'd like to a higher end one like the Roomba. When these robot vacs came years ago, they weren't that impressive, but over time, technology has developed a better robot vac and thus a viable cleaning option has to come to pass.

Have you seen the new S7+? Came out today. Four times more suction than the I7. I have the I7+ and a 960. The I7 knocks the pants off of every other robot I've owned. Several years ago I strayed from Irobot for a couple of Neatos. They did do a nice job, but in my multi-pet household, never lasted past the guaranty. When their coverage gave out on the replacement, it was back to the IRobot product. Again, the I7 and the 960 and 980 series were far better than their earlier models. Loving my Braava as well.

Robot’s marketing department shows the i7+ as the God’s send of robot vacuum cleaners because of the automatic emptying system. But what they don’t advertise is how there’s still a filter inside the dust bin that requires regular cleaning or it’ll get clogged up rather quickly. That being that, the automatic emptying system becomes kind of pointless because the end user still has to remove the dust bin to clean out the small filter. This subject is something the iRobot fan base hardly ever seems to mention.
@fenderjazzbrian
@fenderjazzbrian 5 лет назад
Ozzie Alarcon pointless? You don’t have to clean the filter on the dust bin every time it runs. Without the auto dirt emptying, you’d have to empty out the tiny Roomba i7 bin all the time.

I use to be a huge Roomba fanboy right up to the day I bought an i7 model. It's a nice unit but it's been getting stuck under places that my previous 980 never had problems with. I decided to try a D7 and its awesome. I love the fact that it can do its job in complete darkness and it has yet to get stuck. I also love how much larger the dust bin is compared to the tiny dust bin on the i7.

I have an older Neato (had the 70e & now the D80). Both had some issues with the side brush not always spinning on carpets. Seems they haven't fixed this yet; I can see the brush not spinning a lot during this video. All they need is a slightly more powerful motor, right? Odd they haven't fixed this. That being said, the robots are still amazing!

Bought a Neato XV Signature Pro Pet & Allergy Robot Vacuum Cleaner in 2015 and was really impressed with it. Just received a Neato D4 with all the new technology. It's great. The original Neato XV is still going strong and will be going to the other smaller house with less pets. Love the size of the dust bin on the D4 for 2 large dogs. Barely ever use the Dyson anymore. Roomba is a quality product also, I just like the "D" shape design for my needs.

As an owner of the Roomba, if you have pets, you will love it at first, but overtime you will want to throw it in a fire and use gasoline to put it out. Past the cleaning rollers, hair will clog up and not make it to the dirt bin. This leads to it running all around the house not picking up anything at all. It'll just push dirt around because it's not smart enough to know that it's clogged up. You'll learn eventually midway through the cleaning that you'll have to pause it and use a hand held vac or a normal vac to suck out the hair that's clogged. I have ONE dog which is an English Mastiff. My Roomba is set to run every morning at 0800 and this is an everyday problem.

@GMoney-B
@GMoney-B 4 года назад
You could just use your upright or dust buster vacuum to suck out of the bag the dirt/dust with a crevice tool. Then just reuse the bag like you would a plastic dirt bin. That's what I would do to save the bags. Seems like a waste to throw them away anyway as they look pretty robust.

I prefer the Neato. More bang for you money. However the higher tier Roomba seems much better than their lesser models. Even the Neato D3 which can be found for $200-$300 has all the same options as the D7 except the side brush.. So you could get 2-3 of them for the price of that Roomba. The lidar method works better as well.

Too bad the review doesn't cover how neat the rooms have to be. Can their be USB cables laying around or will it avoid them. What if someone accidentally spills ketchup in the kitchen and nobody notices, will these robots just smear it around?

@trevortremaine8468 5 лет назад
What's never explained in any review is the cost of maintenance/servicability. With the Neato, you're looking at filter replacement monthly, the beater bar about every 3-6 months (all depending upon usage). I don't know about the Roomba, but I think the Dyson has permanent filters and beater bars. I'm now getting my 4th Neato after problems with the first 3 - all in the course of about a year. One was defective, 2 have had broken belts (which are essentially rubber bands). So, please - buyer beware. None of these have many serviceable parts either - always have to send it in for repair.

I am looking to get one for my parents. I am torn between getting them a neato and a i7roomba. I have had a neato XV for about 4 years, and it has been incredible with no problems, still running strong. However I am thinking it might be nice for my parents to not have to clean out the brush on the neato for getting a roomba with the rollers. Is this true about the rollers that you never have to clean them? How does the suction on the Neato compare to the Roomba. I love from experience with my Neato XV the robustness and how it's built like a tank, but the roomba seems pretty good and hart to pass up with the auto emptying for 1-3 months, as well as the speaking of what room to vaccum, that is just incredible! Anybody have any experience or opinion on what might be best in regards to the brush/roller maintenance? and suction power of each?

@savannahrosedigitalillustr1946
meh, they are a nice idea but way too expensive if they can only do short pile and hard floors, you still need a regular vacuum as well to go over the rugs manually, plus they only suck up loose debris so they dont scrub or mop, again, you'd need a second one to do all that, not covenient enough for me yet, might as well stick to manual if I still have to spend 2 hours mopping and properly vaccing stubborn areas. I don't own a show home lol

We just bought the i7. I had a eufy that I returned because emptying that dustbin got annoying. Also I prefer an American company. The methodical cleaning was awesome and definitely better than randomized. The dustbin cleaner is very powerful. The i7 is also so much more powerful than the eufy. We have 2 GSD so we have a lot of hair. No problem since this robotic vacuum.

The side brush on the Neato is like T-rex arms - vestigial and almost non-functional. Watch the video at 13:15, you can see where the magnetically attached side brush is just stuck from the ottoman. Happens in medium height carpet too. They also tend to fall off and end up in the bin too. Not a deal breaker for me as the wide cleaning head of the Neato more than makes up for the side brush issues. For this reason the D3/D4 is really the model to buy.

I have an older Neato BotVac Connected, one thing that failed right away was the side brush quit spinning. The belt material they used to connect the motor to the side brush stretched out, only after a few weeks of getting it. I noticed from your video that the Neato's side brush wasn't spinning at all. It might have the same problem. The side brush should be spinning 95% of the time. I have own mine now for over a year and I replaced the belt for the side brush with a better kind. I also needed to replace the pressure sensing buttons on one side because the old ones were wore out. I hope they fix those problems in the future with better materials. I totally agree with you that the Neatos's side brush needs to be longer.

Honestly I had a Neato and it got stuck under chairs. As in wedging itself inside the legs dragging my chairs and scratching my floor. Same with my end tables. It more of a ram object type due to it not having the sensor on the front bumper to slow it before it bumps it. It also back up and scratches up walls. I have the old xiaomi and I like it better. My mom has the s5 and it’s very plush and easy on furniture. Set it and forget it.
