FYI...Saw this in a CNN report: Shortly after the brothers’ reunion, rescuers pulled tiny Nico from the rubble. Hours later, their other dog Rogan was rescued by the Human Society just down the road from where their house once stood. Both dogs are doing OK.😁
About 75 years ago when I was a young boy living with my parents and brothers on a farm west of Milford Nebraska, a tornado had passed our place during the night while we were all asleep. The next morning we looked out to the east towards Milford. A farm in that direction that had a large barn and house was not there anymore!.We soon found out that two brothers, well known to us, were at home alone sleeping in the same bed upstairs when they were awakened by the storm as it approached. As they realized the house was being ripped apart they just clung to the mattress and were carried some distance ending up in a field. Covered with mud they walked to a neighbors place for help. One of the brothers name was Roger. I couldn’t resist telling this story after listening to these two brothers tell their story especially since one’s name is Roger!
Bless them! This happened to my dad in Garland TX about 51 years ago. He was at his girlfriends house and said he heard something loud outside and the tornado dropped right in front of her house. As a curious 17 year old, he went to look out the window and got sucked out by the tornado. He was knocked out but they found him a few blocks down with cuts everywhere. His classmates made a long line in the hospital to see him to where the Dr would ask his parents to help clear them out because it was becoming a problem, but they didnt. The biggest cut from the glass though went from his forehead to his chin, and luckily missed his eye. They said his face was just sitting wide open, with the cut running down the side of his lips too. He was a very good trumpet player at the time, and the cut through his lip almost ended his that, but he eventually healed and kept playing as he was older. The long scar on his face never healed and I always wondered if they affected how he grew up, getting into fights a lot, drinking a lot. He ended up getting COPD and died at age 57. The tornado really changed his life that day. Bless these two boys and the families they will have one day. I hope they heal inside and out! 💞
This happens in every large outbreak . We had a lady in a tree top on March 28 1984 when the Carolinas got slammed with giant tornadoes . The lady only suffered minor injuries . She was rescued by fire ladder . My cousin Anthony found a five day old girl in a wooded area after she was blown 350 feet from the destroyed house . She had injuries but recovered in hospital . There were literally hundreds of people blown into yards , fields, woods, roadways that terrible night . Some were dead but most lived to remember the angry storms . I never take tornadoes lightly . Nothing to play around with for sure .
I too was picked up and dropped by a tornado, and THIS is why you DONT STAND AND WATCH OR LOOK FOR A TORNADO!! The SECOND you hear the sirens you GRAB THE PET, AND HEAD TO THE BASEMENT. Shoot after my experience my pet carrier is now located IN THE BASEMENT, and the second we get a warning, sirens or not, my fur baby is put in his carrier in the NE corner of the basement. When the sirens go off, then I head down knowing my animal will be found in his carrier in the safest corner if the house crumbles. Tornadoes don't play I'm sorry, but after my experience, you don't ever stand and look out to see where it is.
Going in the northeast corner of the basement is a myth. If you have a walk out basement, you want to go to the deepest part, under the stairs or in a closet. If your basement is fully underground you don't have to worry about doing to the deepest part since it's all the same, but a smaller room like a bathroom or closet, or under the stairs is best.
As a huge animal lover, I appreciate you sharing with everyone how much you care for your fur baby. I hope that anyone who reads this does the same for their fur babies. 😊
IF YOU RELY SOLELY ON SIRENS THEN YOU ARE LIKELY TO BE DEAD BY THE TIME YOU HEAR ONE....SIRENS ARE 1950sTECHNOLOGY PEOPLE AND NO LONGER THE 1ST LINE OF WARNING....FOR $10 PURCHASE A FREAKING WEATHER RADIO OR IF CAN NOT AFFORD MANY PLACES WILL GIVE THEM AWAY...Thankfully those young men survived...I noticed there weren't many large established trees and the terrain was relatively flat....thankfully they were on their way to the basement because sounds like they likely were not lifted higher than a few feet perhaps 5 or so...due to being in the stairwell on the way down when the pressure lifted the floor likely lifted them both and why they were not impaled or killed is due to Devine Intervention AND due to them being lifted simultaneously with the floor and other parts of the house meaning they were being thrown in the same direction and roughly the same speed as the rest of the debris at that level...regardless of the why...Good to see 2 brothers watching out and caring about the other...I'm sure they realize how close they came to not existing anylonger ie. being killed...WOW
As soon as they said they went upstairs looking for the little dog, I knew that dog was already in a safe place. Dogs can sense things like this way before us. There was a tornado about 2 miles from my house and usually my dog will not get up to save her life but when I woke her up and said get in the closet, she got up and ran in without question. Shes old and stubborn so this is abnormal. I knew that there really was a tornado within danger distance based on her reaction alone. Our animals can tell us more than we realize
The little dog said, I'm out of here and ran for the basement. Wow. I've heard animals are better at getting out of the way of danger than a human would be.
One of the mile wide tornados that formed this day began it's rotation right over our neighborhood. We had been in our safe place for about 15 minutes prior to that. We have two cats. One who is incredibly brave and adventurous (so much so he goes on day trips with us in a back pack and LOVES it) and a second who is very skittish. They were both in there with us and had settled down pretty easily after the 15 minute mark. I remember watching Ryan Hall and him talking about the rotation that was forming over us and at the same time both of them went from calm to absolutely ballistic. It was incredibly chilling. Tornado touched down just behind us and wound up destroying one of our close friend's homes while on it's destructive path. Animals have a great sense for these things. Pay attention to your pets. I've had cats warn for Earthquakes while growing up in California too. If your pet is acting out of character, definitely pay attention to your surroundings.
Yeah, we don’t do that here in Nebraska. Lol jk, We do, but usually not before stepping outside to try to see it first, unless, of course, it’s literally *right there.*
Those two brothers are precious and I think they were more concerned about their little doggy than they were about themselves. It takes a strong man to be gentle. God bless them and the little pup.
@@susanne7955 Correct. It was emotion over prudent thought and action. Hopefully they've learned their lesson and in the future will prioritize their own life over the life of a pet.
Hello Mr. Heartless. You’re definitely not someone I’d like to be around if there’s a tornado. You’d probably yell at people for crying. It’s a life. Pets are like family members to people who have the capability for empathy. They could have had those dogs for over a decade.
So happy they survived. My 8 yr old daughter was nearly sucked out a hole ripped out of closet wall as we were sheltering from an ef4 in 2010. These boy's story brings back some scary moments for me.
So glad you both made it, just had to shelter in the bathroom with my own daughter and grandmother and family but the tornado decided to shift direction and spare us in its path
@@dabbadonisthestout7284 Glad your family were safe. So scary! Spent a few evenings in the bathrooms also until we got a house with a basement. Those moments waiting for the all clear are agonizing!
I would thank God (if he existed) to kindly not send life threatening weather at us. Believers always attribute good things to their deity, but never horrible weather which he also apparently created.
@@Toni_Snark Actually, Shay is correct. It's called being objective and realizing that people thanking a god for saving them from weather he created doesn't make any sense.
These brothers are incredible!!!! The dog was in the ambulance? Crazy. Praying for all the tornado victims!!!!! These guys definitely have some bragging rights with those scars. May you be healed and blessed. Such brave guys.
If God is real he caused the tornado since he influences everything and is all seeing and all knowing and all-powerful. You should be angry that God sent the tornadoes.
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is lier and murderer. This is the reason why situation goes south. That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our beloved ones again! :-)
a true friend of mine Ryan pence and his fiancé died in 2019 at just 22 years old in a tornado in Alabama along with 23 other victims. they had just bought their first home. the house was gone. the vehcile was fine. rest in peace Ryan you are truly missed every day. everyone please always take tornados seriously.
@@HaileeLuvsLibertyIntention would only exist in something with consciousness. A tornado has no intention the same as rain has no intention the same as a piece of wood has no intention.
God Bless you guys! Your story nearly brought me to tears! To be sucked up into one of those monsters and live to tell the tale with so few injuries is a miracle in and of itself.
I am so glad you guys have each other. It’s such a relief to have a family member with during and after a traumatic evident. Thank you God for sparing these two young men
@@jimmypage1517You non believers love to blame God, smh. A God you do not know, don’t care to know, and a God who will be God whether you believe or not. God gave all of us free will and many of us take that free will to do awful things, including reject Him, and yet we blame Him for everything we view as negative. We humans brought the storms, trouble our way. No matter what warnings we get, we continue sinning and doing whatever “feels” good to our flesh, including evil, no matter who we hurt. We ONLY cry God when things don’t go our way and we need to blame Him. Well, YOU LOSE. That simple. You lose. And hold onto your hats because you haven’t seen nothing yet!! Worst, so much worst is to come. I cry about what I know but it is hard hearts like yours that make it so necessary.
Hey Slatten brothers..I am praising God you both survived that tornado. Glad your precious doggie Nikko was found safe. You can get another house & more stuff..but your lives are precious. 🙏🏽💕
God was with you guys. Glad you both and your pet came out of that ordeal alive. Thanks Royce for your service to the US. Love to you both from your fellow NEBRASKAN
@@thisisquist As an ex-lesbian FTM atheist disgust me. I just hope that god got his target. I cannot imagine the filth the neighbours commuted. Praise Jesus!
So glad you came out of the disaster with only injuries that will heal. A lifelong memory for you two to share, and be grateful for. It's amazing there weren't more serious injuries and deaths, considering the complete devastation in some area of your city.
Thank goodness they found the little dog Nico. What about the other one? This brought tears to my eyes. Gosh, these two brothers will never forget this.
Thank you GOD for saving these 2 brothers lives. What a miracle. I hope you recover real soon. God's Blessing to you 2 bothers and To all who suffered in this tragic Tornado
I like how the dog was the one smart enough to run to the basement lol. I say this with love and respect because their first thought was to save their dog, and I wouldn't have thought to look in the basement first either. I'm glad all of them made it through safe.
My god, what a miracle all 3 survived. Poor little dog, so scary. Poor brothers, that was horrific. Look at those injuries, horrible. Such good news you all made it out alive. What fury from Nature, wow!!!
So happy you guys made it out of that. And thank you for saying the pup is ok. I was getting a little nervous for a minute, not gonna lie. All 3 of you must have been terrified ❤
Wow guys, glad you're around to tell your story! And it's so great that you have each other, and your doggies too! Take care of yourselves and those around you 💕
Wow. That's something you'll never forget. I'm glad you both survived mother nature. Thanks for sharing your story. I have a daughter who lives in Omaha with her family and I was worried about their safety. Thank God they weren't in the direct path of the tornados that caused all the destruction.
@@RepentfollowJesus Was the dog more important than there life? Would you train your child to put any animals life before theirs? The animals can be replaced at the pound or pet shop can you replace a human by purchasing your child in the pet shop?
Unless there is high mutational load in the brain (genes)..species choose themselves first. While humans will put other humans first, it is still self first.
Wow !!! That an INSANE story!!!! The whole time I was wondering what happened to the dog. The dog knew to run into the basement for safety and wait for the boys ❤ good for the dog. Very smart 🐶
Amen! I guess you could say I was in a tornado in St. Louis, actually Ferguson back in 2013. I was out and about and had planned to meet up with my daughter to go grocery shopping. But the sky began darkening and “the Lord” told me to call my daughter and tell her to go straight home, now. As soon as we both made it home, like got inside the door and ran into the basement, it hit. I don’t recall hearing a freight train but upstairs sounded like something was tearing the house apart. The minutes felt like hours, as the news channel extended the warning. Once it was over and we went upstairs, there seemed minimal damage, nothing like what we’d heard or thought. The storm door was unhinged and the thick wooden front door had a rip that allowed sunlight straight through. Our electric was out. At first I thought, oh, maybe it wasn’t a tornado but just a bad storm. But once we drove around, like the end of our street and around, there was clear evidence it was indeed a tornado. Cars literally were inside homes. Like airborne. Strong big ole trees split in parts. Roofs torn off, etc. But God protected me and my daughter and the house we lived. Hallelujah!
Advancement in technologies/ structures, warning systems, and safety training has likely been the biggest factors in reducing deaths historically. For me personally, it’s why I will never buy a house without a basement. I’ve been in several tornadoes, I’ll do everything I can to ensure me and my families safety. Tornadoes are the reality you wish were left a nightmare.
The worst tornado in US history has a death toll of over 8K. The reason for such little loss of life these days is due to technology and advanced warning systems.
Dude what? This is a crazy story that's positive as hell! We need more news like this! That's amazing they weren't hurt too bad, and I'm sure their family is extremely greatful
Just absolutely amazing that they are both here to even tell us the story 😮wow , thank god they’re ok and prayers to everyone down there that’s going through all these horrible tornadoes, my heart breaks for them 😢❤
I'm really happy the brothers are alright and survived but the news that the little Yorkie survived also made me so emotional I almost cried lol That was the highlight for me. Again, glad they all survived 🙏
These two are insanely lucky since most people don't survive an experience like this in a tornado. Incredibly rare for both of them to survive. An EF-3 tornado blowing their house apart - when they were on the on the second floor at that and come out of that with minor injures. The dog was the only one to go to the basement and knew what to do. Going to echo something critical for pet owners others are saying. When a tornado warning is issued for your area by the NWS you have around 5-10 minutes to grab your pet and get into the basement under a stairwell or an interior room like a bathroom and get into the bathtub with a mattress or heavy cover over you (if you have the time and strength to do so). If the sirens are going off you should already be in the basement or bathub - not looking out the window trying to see where the tornado is or filming it for RU-vid🤦♂
I can not even pathem the terror of these moments..I do not know how anyone lives in these environments..I have the utmost respect for you all..sorry for all loss .may God's love be the reason you survived to be with your brother again , never let go of each other..prayers for all ❤
