Many people who live there, even if they aren't born there, feel its one of them most comforting and relaxing places to live. My husband, being from Southern California said that he would rather live there than out in SoCal. He said the place just gets into your heart. I was born there and raised there and Nebraska is in my soul and calls to me to come home, endlessly.
Born in Lincoln 1957 before I was a year old we moved to Northern California for a few years then back to Norfolk Nebraska for 18 months then back to Lincoln until 1974. When I joined the USMC. I got out of the Marines in 1978 and bummed around So. Cal for a while then I was on my way back to Lincoln but got side tracked in Breckenridge Colorado before I made it back to Lincoln however I wasn't there long and I was back in Colorado for 2 years the back to Lincoln. I made a couple more moves since then but always would end up back in Lincoln, I now live in Arizona but still call Nebraska home I think there is something in the water there that makes you feel like no matter where you live once your in Nebraska it feels like you're at home.
So - if You do not mind me asking! - why do you repeat the word "THERE" so often (..."aren't born THERE"...he would rather live THERE" & so forth...)? You do not live in Nebraska? Why don't you go back there, if your heart belongs to that place so fiercely ?
I will never forget my first impression of Nebraska the first week when I finally arrived as a young freshman at York College. I had traveled by air from home in East Africa ( Uganda) to Europe arriving in New York city four days later. I then decided to continue my remaining journey by road to Nebraska. It was January and you know what that means. I thought I would not survive the cold weather, having arrived in the Winter six months late into the academic year. It was at York, NE that I had my first taste of what it would be like to live as a college student in America. The Trailways bus had dropped me off at the old hotel downtown. I looked around but could not find anyone to talk to until a fellow, who turned out to be an insurance agent with an office in the hotel, greeted me. He was sure of who I was because of my luggage and foreign accent. He immediately picked up the phone and called the college saying that he had an international student from Africa in the hotel lobby. The college sent an officer from admissions to pick me up in his car. There was snow everywhere. The temperature was around 6 degrees and I had not purchased my first winter jacket yet. Soon I would learn how to wear long johns and to dress up for the cold Nebraska weather lasting for months. Having never lived below 70 degrees in my my whole life, weighing 135 pounds and at only 5 feet 6 inches tall, I was doubtful whether I would be healthy at all under those conditions. Fortunately, I had come to the right place and at the right time in my life. I was young, energetic and willing to learn. Mrs. Kirk, the College Registrar, quickly gave me instructions I would follow for the first week. She also called up one senior student from Africa to escort me to my dormitory. Thomas Hall was a brand new building then. I would be sharing a second floor room with a Business student from Nigeria, I was told. Our room was warm, very comfortable and immaculate. Later that day, Dr. Nossaman, Professor of Biology, who lived with his family in an apartment on the ground floor of the dorm, introduced himself saying that he was there anytime I needed him. Since I was a Pre-med student, I thought what a coincidence, not knowing that the almighty God had a lot more in store for me in Nebraska. York College was much smaller in those days than it is today, but it had a dedicated faculty and staff that would put my life at ease from the first day. Everybody was very helpful and smiling most of the time. I wondered how people living in such brutal weather conditions could be so nice and patient with me. I was amazed at how laid back the people on campus and in the York community were, given the long and cold Nebraska winters they had to endure. It would not be until late May that I found out how pleasant the Nebraska summers can be. They are hot yes, but with little humidity. Most impressive is the pristine environment, which is a blessing to the state. By the end of the first week, I had tasted my first American food in the college cafeteria- most of it quite new to me-my classes were going well too. Well, I thought, I was blessed to have found such friendly and accommodating people far away from home. My family were very anxious to hear from me, but I was enjoying myself so much I did not call them until two weeks later. They were so grateful and relieved to know that I was attending a Christian college with so many wonderful people all around their son who knew very little about America. Nebraska would turn out to be the best place for anyone starting a new life in America. Friendly and down to earth, the people could have easily taken advantage of me, but did not. Instead, I still believe that had it not been for my pleasant experience in the first few months in Nebraska, I would have had a totally different first impression of the United States America. Thank God the Nebraskans were there for me at such a young age when I needed them.

What a great story you have and I'm glad it turned out so well for you. I moved from Germany to Los Angeles, California. I don't know why, but I really love Nebraska and the endless cornfields. It's like i lived there before. Just beautiful.
as an international student I do enjoy the place far from home called Lincoln, where people with big hearts live. There is truly no place like Nebraska!
A lot of people have only seen Nebraska driving I-80 which in mostly the Platte River Valley. Pretty flat most of the way through that corridor. The northwest portion of the state borders Colorado and Wyoming and is rugged bluffs with Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Lions. The Southeast portion borders the Missouri River and is very scenic with sprawling apple orchards. The Northern border has the Niobrara river which is famous for Kayaking and river rafting. Big variety of wildlife throughout the state. Lake Mcconaughy in western Nebraska is 22 miles long. Nebraska has thousands of Eagles along our rivers and especially near the warm water outlets of power plants in the winter. Its pretty common to see over a 100 at times in one spot. The most amazing part of Nebraska is underground. The Ogallala Aquifer is one of the largest freshwater aquifers on earth and runs through much of Nebraska. Seen a few comments on there running Nebraska down and that's OK. Everyone has an opinion. Personally I'd rather live with some friendly hayseeds who stop and help me change a flat tire than rob me or drive by not caring. Each to their own.
I’ve have been looking at Nebraska for a while now my husband and I are thinking about selling everything and moving. Would you have any recommendations? We’re looking for warmer weather, lots of water nearby, friendly people and a good place to grow food.
@@marthaghioctanzania sounds like fun!! I hope you make the step, are you in the Great Plains already? I’m in Cali, and I really want to move anywhere in the Great Plains. Here in Cali, everyone is cold, selfish, they won’t even say hi back to you, they’re THAT stuck up. It’s extremely “every man for themselves” here, but in other states, I don’t see that. Also, our policies are awful, and the only hiking trails here are spotted with traffic in the background and buildings in sight. I heard Nebraska has wonderful people and open fields. Definitely on my list of places to go.
I spent 10 days exploring the state on my motorcycle a couple years ago. Great weather, great food, great people. Loads of history. I loved it! I can't wait to return and see more of it.

Great video. Born and raised in Pierce, NE and lived there the first 18 years of my life, then Lincoln and Omaha for the next 30 years. Missouri now but Nebraska is still my home. Proud to say I'm a Nebraskan!
@@exothermal.sprocket Cost of everything is pretty low when you compare it to the rest of the states. The only exception is Omaha, where your property taxes are a little high.

Shannon b I live in Nebraska in a small town near Omaha and it is amazing theres hills everywhere trees and the fields are great also theres some 1 million dollar houses in the small town I live in its amazing also ive seen the whole state and its so beautiful like if you don't like to see flat land which Nebraska doesn't have that much go to valentine ne youll see
I'm 17, born and raised a Nebraskan. It disappoints me when I hear people saying they can't wait to leave the state when they're older. This new generation, sadly, wants to live life in the fast lane. Eventually they'll realize how nice Nebraska is and come back...
DastardlyCake I can respect that. I guess this a "to each his own" situation. In my area, Norfolk, a lot of people love the big cities, which I don't quite understand. Our town is large enough to have plenty of cool things to do without the excessive crime and (sometimes) ruder people. I guess some people don't see it the way I do, and maybe they just love the rush of a big city.
The plains are gorgeous for those with eyes wide open. We have lovely natural forests and great lakes like McConahuey. The falls at Valentine, tubing down the Niobrara, the sandhills, Fort Robinson - great stuff. So much to do! Most people are just bad at being tourists in their own state.
Nebraska has more rivers than pretty much any other state, and tons of lakes.... and the western part of the state has amazing scenery. Nebraska is not flat.
Being away for almost 6 months for training with the Army, this video has reminded me of the beautiful and amazing place I call home. Born and raised in Nebraska.

Very nice camera work, shows some great aspects of our state. The music however is completely wrong. It gives the video a frenzied, unrelaxed feel. That's not the persona of our state, not even the urbanized portions.
I have lived in this state for 64 years and I never get tired of it. I spend 7 months of the year living in a house on the banks of the west fork of the big blue river. I have 2 other beautiful streams on my property that flow into the river. for me, this is paradise.
Before I saw this video most of what I knew of Nebraska was from "Children of the Corn." Thank you for showing that there's so much more to the state than miles and miles of cornfields!
Grew up in central Nebraska til 45 yrs old. Moved to WA state after a divorce. My 2 kids are still there. Go back at New Years and 4th of July for 10 days each time. Gotta see that Granddaughter too..! Love that place, My heart is still there.... Harlan County! I grew up in Furnas County (Wilsonville), but spent most of my life in Omaha. Pelicans were commonplace where I lived in Mexico, but I honestly never saw them in Nebraska. Now I learn their 'return' is celebrated. Thanks for 'splainin' it to me! And sadly, I believe I went to see the Sand Hill Cranes only once, south of Kearney, eons ago.
Everyone who thinks Nebraska is boring are completely WRONG! Haters that are gonna hate, you better read this! The reason why you aren't interested in this state is because you think it's just flat and lame. Completely wrong! There's a giant Henrly Doorly Zoo RIGHT BESIDE IOWA. You're welcome.. And the morning sun rises and sunsets in the evening are incredible across the corn fields. People there are very friendly. (Most). There are awesome camps there and fun places to visit that's about History. Even though it's in the center of Tornado Alley, my town hasn't had a tornado for 20 years. Did you hear me? 20 YEARS! You just haven't lived there before. You need to spend more time there. Haters hating this state are New Yorkers. Thank you very much.

Jason - the bridge is part of the bicycle trail called "The Cowboy Trail". That portion is near Valentine, but the trail so far covers 195 miles across Nebraska and when completed will be 321 miles from Chadron to Norfolk.
The bridge at 1:45 is the old railroad bridge over the Niobrara River to the southeast of Valentine, Nebraska. It is now along the Cowboy Trail, one of the country's longest railroad to hiking/biking trail conversions. Eventually the trail will stretch over 300 miles across the northern portion of Nebraska, through farm country, the Pine Ridge, and Sandhills. Breathtaking dramatic bridge.
It is the dramatic music that moves me. No less than when you are spinning about the Sower statue atop the Nebraska State Capitol building at 2:06 to 2:07. I see the new Pinnacle Bank Arena and West Haymarket entertainment district at 2:14 to 2:15. What a great time to do this in our city in July 2013, the height of all of the new construction in the Haymarket.
Many of our USAF friends decided to retire to Nebraska due to the most friendly people in the country, excellent schools, world class medical center care, and an extremely strong economy. They have never regretted it, and when we finally retired, we came back also!!

Have lived in Nebraska for 6 years, still want to move back to the east coast. But there are some unknown beauties. Like sunsets and endless cornfields. Not as boring as people think.
No, there are at least FIVE waterfalls in Nebraska. The tallest is Smith Falls (63 feet high) that feeds a short stream into the Niobrara river near Valentine, and the broadest (Snake Falls) is on the Snake river just a few miles downstream from the huge Merritt Reservoir. The 2nd tallest Fort Falls on the Ft. Niobrara Wildlife refuge not far from Valentine. As for the other scenery shown, yes, it is all in Nebraska. I have seen much of it and many parts of it can be astoundingly beautiful.
Anyone who visits needs to check out Fort Robinson in western Nebraska. It's a long drive from Lincoln and Omaha, but it's a fun place to spend a long weekend.

With so much interest, we want you to know that we'll be producing at least one full-length documentary for release in 2014. There are 30+ hours of outstanding video from all over the state. We currently do not have plans to shoot during the Fall and Winter, because of cost, but we do hope to add that to our collection some day. Thanks for your enthusiasm and interest.
Sorry Bill, but there *are* Badlands type areas in Nebraska. Toadstool Geological Park near Crawford is the primary area, and many parts of it look nearly identical to the forms shown in the main South Dakota Badlands, although somewhat smaller in scale.
