First, Long Live Troy! This song was my introduction to Montgomery Gentry. I love everything they recorded. Perhaps that's because of their ties to Southern Rock. This is my very favorite song from them. It's been difficult to find anyone doing a reaction to it. The message is spot on. Thank you for the reaction. PS, they recorded a "Crossroads" episode with Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's an epic show very well worth checking out.

Eddie Montgomery is the 'Undertaker' LOL & Troy Gentry is the other guy, who sadly was killed a few years back, in a helicopter crash on the way to a benefit concert. So sad. These two have some great songs with strong, wholesome, loving values.

I watched my father, growing up, who was probably one of the most racist people you will ever meet. As he grew older, he started to be friend Some members of the black community karma and they turned out to be some of his best friends at the end of his life. If this man can change, then it's possible for anyone to change. Rest in peace dad.

Props to your father! If people would all just give each other a chance, & really get to know those they perceive as the “other,” for whatever reason - learn their stories & WHO they are - maybe we’d open our hearts to realize we are all the same where it counts… we are human. And we need each other. “Be kind, for everyone you meet us fighting a hard battle.” ~ attributed to Ian McClaren (but also to Plato?) That is a beautiful song. This song touches my heart. My son struggled with drug addiction for 20 yrs. I became a prayer warrior. I prayed for God to protect him and to bring to salvation. My prayers were answered 13 months ago when he for the hundredth time went into rehab. But this time he stayed in the program. At the halfway house one of the requirements was they had to attend church. He was saved and had been clean ever since! So don't give up people do change!!!!!

Sad part is this group is now just Montgomery. Eddie is alone now as Troy Gentry passed away in a plane accident a few years ago. Eddie still tours by himself.

Yeah, originally after Troy's death, Eddie was just going to sing the full songs himself, do both his and Troy's parts, but luckily the band spoke up and said they should all sing his parts, switching between them. Like bass player picks a song, guitarist picks another, ect.

Eddie Montgomery has a nephew that is becoming well-known and country music, Dillon Carmichael. He also has a brother that had several country hits, John Michael Montgomery.

This message has never been more important than now as we have become so divided, so sure we are right and "they" are wrong - and deserve to pay for it. Jesus taught us to hate the sin but love the sinner - sincerely. We all have our own roads to Damascus - hopefully we will see the light. (Too bad more music doesn't carry this weight any more.)

I remember when Oprah had her show, in the early years, she had an episode with KKK members, and they were as horrible as you would expect. But when she was bringing her show to an end, like 20 years later, two of those men returned and they were different people. They apologized for their past actions, for all the hurt they caused and when she asked one of them, what had made him change, he said it had been the grace of God that had changed him into a better man. So, change is possible.

Sebs incase you want to know: Pilot error following engine maintenance problems caused the helicopter crash that killed Montgomery Gentry singer Troy Gentry and the pilot at a small airport where he was to perform that night, federal investigators said. Eddie Montgomery always wore that hat and long coat.

Montgomery gentry had a long list of hits and even though Troy gentry passed away on sept. 8 2017 in a helicopter crash right before they were scheduled to preform, Eddie Montgomery (the one in the hat) still puts on shows and sings all of their greatest hits. He has kept the promise he made to Troy years ago, that if anything were to ever happen to either of them, the other would carry on their music. Eddie Montgomery is the brother of John Michael Montgomery who also had big hits in the 90s and early 2000s

But it's also been a powerful source of healing for so many, helping people battle their demons, unlearn their bigotry, and generally become better human beings. I'm not a religious man myself, but I'll never judge anybody for whom Jesus or Allah or Budah or Thor or Wicca or whatever else is the vector for their self-improvement. Nooooo, you've gone too far. B&D are the GOLD Standard, they wrote all their songs, M&G, right there, strong catalog for sure, but B&D IMO, had more range in their country more twang.

Unfortunately not all people can change. My grandma was married at one point to a man who went to prison in 2007 for SAing really young children who were his then wife's grandchildren. It was his second time being convicted of the same charges. He had several other victims he couldn't be charged for since it had been too long since he did it to them. He wasn't going to stop till he was in prison for life. He passed away in 2020 from complications of covid. He can never harm another child ever again. I was 1 of his victims but I don't remember it happening since I was so young (between 1 to 4 years old). His own daughter was also 1 of the victims that he couldn't be charged for.

Montgomery Gentry was such a great group. They seemed to work well together and not one of these groups a record label put together. Eddie Montgomery(lead singer with hat) is the older brother of country music star John Michael Montgomery. It’s sad that Troy Gentry died in a helicopter accident prior to a concert back east. The scary thing about it is not long before the accident they had a conversation about what to do if one of them died and they decided that they would keep the band going somehow. An amazing song of theirs that doesn’t have a video I believe is called “20 years ago” has to do with a father and son. They also have a song called “I’ll Keep the Kids” talking about a family going through a divorce and what gets lost in the shuffle.

This song is great! It was on a Kenny Chesney album too. Edit: KC released this on "When the sun goes down" 2004. MG released song for radio single in 2006. KC had many other hits off thar album.

The social scientists that try to figure out why people join hate groups and gangs and militia groups and so forth have found the reasons are often the same across the board; they are mostly young men looking for a family, a place to belong, and feel safe, and liked...many voice that they don't even buy into the ideologies, but they want to belong. So, perhaps what we need to do is give them a better place, and a chance, to belong.

The trick is to get to these vulnerable people before the villains do. Ideally, we'd have a society that's able to notice these symptoms and get these people help early, so they don't need to be extricated in the first place. Everybody deserves a chance to change and to be loved, but once somebody's in deep it can be difficult and dangerous to get them out. People have done it, absolutely, but, for instance, being nice to the KKK members so they'll stop being bigots isn't something I'd ever ask your average POC to do.
