NHs have their own design requirements. The current road is NOT just narrow, the incline may be significantly more than what's allowed in new NHs. Safety is also an important factor. Despite being 6-8kms long as you claim, it will reduce TIME & FUEL significantly.

Seriously don't know why we are constructing Udupi to Hebri National Highway by destroying thousands of dense trees. These people didn't even maintain this regular route now they are building NH. Nobody wants to raise a voice against it . Are we really going to plant trees across highways?? What about those habitats who are living in these trees for hundreds of years . We are destroying nature completely by the name of development. Shame on us.
I'm a Infrastructure engineer consulting for UK governments presently. This is the lamest journalism I have ever witnessed in Kudla. We are bright people, please don't encourage unaware journalists like this who do not do their homework. The engineer has the right explanation about the road speed and curves, but what he needs to be asked is that, did you communicate with local roads authorities (Panchayath/Municipality) before on this road plan? Has it been communicated in right way to avoid doubling of works and wastage of resources. The government engineers like him saying that this is not my cup of tea is the worst problem of this country's administration.

BYPASS is very much needed ......that new bridge which was built in 2020 will be an alternative for locals,it was built because we people of gurupur wanted it. the old bridge was very damaged .At that time , Bypass work was still in the land acquisition process. we people should waited another year, so total of 3 years. we are also demanding widen of entire bikarnakatte to gurupur .We also want nantoor double flyover and kpt flyover.
In India poor coordination takes place between local road authorities and NH authorities in design and planning stage...which leads to huge loss of our taxes.

Lame journalism. Just shout corruption without any concrete point. The old bridge was weak so a new bridge was constructed and the same will continue to work for people traveling to Gurpur. NH169 bypasses Gurpurand Moodbidri as per the new alignment (travel today and realize how bad traffic is at Gurpur). So the bypass alignment needs a new bridge which was well explained by NHAI. A statement like "old bridges were strong and new ones are weak" is hollow shouting.
