James and Iain are always my favorite combo. What a throwback. Miss some of the other guys that use to be regulars here so it’s nice to see. Hopefully some new faces on the podcast!
My back was completely garbage until I started doing Deadlifts, low heavy cable rows and barbell rows often. Then i also started doing full range of motion pullups to almost absolute failure. I can pretty much can guarantee you'll see even some results in a couple of weeks.
I’m so glad I hear you guys still considering it bodybuilding if you haven’t competed yet. I cringe at myself when people ask why I do the things I do, gym, eat, sleep and I have to say “ well I’m a bodybuilder wanting to compete one day”
Rubiel doesn't have myostatin, someone needs to run genetic test on him. Not sure if y'all agree, but he doesn't even have the "I run a lot of gear" look, he looks extremely fresh.
this!!! I’m so happy you guys talked about the social media trends of perfection or proper biomechanics ….. it’s exhausting to watch and makes me not want to scroll fitness on insta or tik tok or even post my workouts bc I’m afraid of the critique
Update on my show. I placed 4th out of 25 athletes in classic physique A. I compete in B and they placed me in wrong class where I had to drop even more weight and got peoples champ for the show 💪🏿 love ya bros
Nick Walker watched the Prague Pro last weekend and went home and kicked his dog after he got a look at Neckzilla. Imagine how tiny Nick's quads from the front will look standing next to this kid. Lol. And Neckzilla built all that muscle on his frame basically by accident. Chris Cormier said he basically had no muscle mind connection and was just pushing weight. What is this kid going to look like in 2 years working with Chris who's now teaching him that connection? Once Chris loads up this kids shoulders and helps him connect to build a bigger back, we are all going to be seeing something that we've never seen before imop.
Everyone should be concerned. A couple years and went against the best 3rd place finisher, and placed behind a better Krizo then the Olympia (and looked better to me). In a couple years! 26 or 27??
10000% true about training. I've only really done bodybuilding for 2 years. I notice a huge difference in all my bodyåarts when I stop doing things like heavy barbell rows. My back in a weel will flatten out and look smaller. No matter how good I feel a more isolated movement might work my lat or whatever it aint replacing just a normal 3-4 plate barbell row.
Love the positivity and suggestion to look at the bigger picture. I definitely shit on myself too much. Just did my first 2 comps and hate the way I looked. I need a lot more muscle but also have come very far
As a semi-first-time listener, I really enjoyed listening to you all shoot the shit, I gained a lot from it, especially when Fouad said... "I've found something I can progress at"... That outlook is super important when you're looking for your next chapter in life, it's certainly helped me... Cheers, fellas... 💪
As someone who is an expert at watching cooking competitions on TV, The Brits ARE NOT known for their cuisine. All their chefs train in different places like France or Italy .
Agree with Iain and Ben, Neckzilla won the side poses and he is probably also better than Derek and Hadi. Considering the short time he trains I am really curious how he will develop in the next 1-2 years.
Sam and Cbum overshadowing everyone is crazy and kinda hilarious. I've got friends who know Sam, who became fans over his facebook stuff 😂. I'm the gym rat in the friend group is the crazy thing!
The compound movements are the most fun. Hitting PR on a deadlift is 10x more mentally rewarding than hitting a PR on a single hand cable pull down. I always tell people don’t focus on the final goal focus on small goals along the way. Those small goals are my PRs in the gym. They get me excited every week when I’m not seeing noticeable growth in my physique! I couldn’t imagine going in and doing isolation movements only week after week. I’d want to quit out of boredom haha.
When the first pics of Rubiel from the show came out, one of my first thoughts was that his biceps actually look like biceps. They didn’t look like big, soft blobs like so many other pros, including Derek. They look like what a lean biceps is supposed to look like. I mean seriously, so many pros have “big” biceps with no definition whatsoever. That’s not what the muscle looks like when it’s dry and conditioned. I don’t know what’s happened over the years, but a lot of pros have shit biceps these days (I’ve been following bodybuilding since ‘88).
The part at 30 minutes with squats or half a$s during a workout always gets me. I NEVER said it! Those hard exercises I saw as a gateway to where i wanted to be. Unlike a, barbell curl or something trivial like that. And it helped I responded to the squat
the training conversation is spot on, the basic compound movements cannot be beat for development across the board regardless of the goal , missed the og crew
As much as we all love and admire the classic physiques that are on display , there’s just that next level of amazement and WOW factor when a FREAK like Rubiel comes along. Literally someone who’s super - human Deep down, we all love to see the FREAKS come out to play
For the bent over tow discussion, is it safe to say/assume that you just need some sort of heavy bent over loaded? It could be a Stiff leg, or a bent over Row, or a regular DL, etc. Just some sort of holding heavy loads in that position?
In my opinion it has to be a row if you’re looking for lat development. RDL’s or DL’s will thicken up the centre of your back but not necessarily the lat.
What an unreal coincidence. I am watching this today November 21st and tomorrow I am going to get an engagement ring for my girlfriend and I am going to propose to her in a month time on our lovely holidays in Tenerife 😊
When I was 17 and a junior in HS, I got 3 of my friends into powerlifting. We just wanted to get as strong as possible. We watched videos of Pete Rubish doing 700lbs for reps in his basement in front of a washer and dryer. We watched Derek Kendall front squat 825lbs, we watched George Leehman talk about how he would tell himself that he's the reason his little brother was unalived, and then hit 800 for 10 reps. These dudes didn't care about views, they cared about LIFTING HEAVY 💩. That motivated us to go in the gym and lift heavy every time. (Not optimal but we got strong). Now, if I was coming up in powerlifting, I'd see nothing but weak, anime cosplayers selling me Young La hoodies. It's a different time.
Sam's the best he helped me stop drinking just by simply posting, and with him, I eventually found other guys like jay cutler and Dorian Yates among the vast majority of bodybuilding society! I've noticed I lose body fat rather fast not extremely but faster than normal for me I'm going to have to get some hosstile protein pretty soon!!
MUCH of Sam's appeal is the fact that he's a very different cat in terms of his very HIT influenced style of training & NOT the ridiculous high volume training that unfortunately many of his contemporaries still do, which is based on TRADITION & not on logic/reason & with the resurgence of Mike Mentzer on YT this is a GREAT EXAMPLE for the young up & comers!!!
Your show will be one of the best in 2024. I hope you can bring some brazilians to compete in Detroit. We will have a handfull of really good brazilian guys doing the Arnold South America
I must say when it comes to bodybuilding and fitness you 4 guys knowledge is ture and honest which makes you guys top shelf in in my book so with that being said keep doing what you guys are doing cause in the end your advice is helping people in their fitness goals, peace out and God bless ✝️💯👍
Ben Chow hit it on the head...Bodybuilding is not so much about whether or not you compete, it's whether or not you love it! There are bodybuilders and there are competitive bodybuilders. I've been in love with bodybuilding and wanted to compete when I was younger in the 80s; but had no training other than magazines articles...I registered for a armature competition but injured my shoulder/collar bone and had no medical coverage to take care of it. I still love to work out and get a high from getting a great pump, the struggle, the suffering to see results. I am jealous of the pros but also celebrate with their victories.
I’ll say I even feel the pressure myself when filming to fall into my own category of training, and sometimes it can be a detriment…. Not to muscle growth but enjoyment. Ive found myself being more fluid with things like rep speed execution etc. I need to do a better job of documenting it to break the mold a little…. I admire Sam’s ability to not give a damn what people think.
I disagree with Iain saying no one comes close to Rubiel’s side tricep. I believe Big Ramy’s side tricep is better, because of better separation throughout the legs.
Basic movements are generally beneficial and necessary. That said, hopefully people listening this podcast understands the difference between good and bad technique (and how wide spectrum it is). For instance, doing an actual barbell row (bent over and rowing horizontal towards your body) is a lot different from doing a "chicken dance" with the bar (which i see a lot at the gym). This came to mind after seeing comments about "rowing heavy in the next workout" with 3-4 plates a side.
Love the channel guys, I think it's a must to keep the basic core compound movements in your routine unless you have some physical problem that you can't do the exercise. Iain is right that it's easier not to do them that's why they don't do them. Keep pumping!
I get a ton of quad engagement when leg pressing, especially if using a Cybex leg press. Everyone is different. Leg press and hack squat are the bread butter for me.
