Well, since Goliath are my main gang I have a few observations to add: 1. About Gene smithing: - Personally I find that using any of the "gene downgrades" on your 1-2 available gene spots on each fighter just to gain a 5-10 cred discount is a waste; I look at them more as a narrative tool to customise your fighters to fit a specific background, like making a Scavvies and muties gang using Goliath rules and the gene 'downgrades' to represent their misshapen mutations. - Natborn Alpha lineage: this upgrade is actually very powerful: on a Forge boss it allows him to act as the substitute leader (Group activation(2) and Leadership skills like Overseer/Iron will at creation), to allow the leader to focus on killing more. - Natborn Prime specimen: +1Bs or +1A on gangers, depending if you want them to focus on shooting or CC (granted they cost 85 Creds naked, but they are pretty elite). - Natborn Redundant organs: I occasionally take this upgrade on a fighter using Unstable weapons (like Stimmer Assault grenade launcher, Forgeboss with Plasma weapons always going for High power or even a Forge born with Storm welder). 2. My personal Gang preferences (all Natborns): - CC focused Leader with Mentor he'll be getting a Frenzon collar from the Chem dealer early on, so doesn't need to take Nerves of steel (I take Nerves of steel only on shooting characters, since all my CC specialists will get Frenzon collars as soon as affordable) and won't ever stay still enough to use a costly gun, but rather keep charging at the enemy among his other CC fighters (and increase the XP gain for each take down/coup de grace). - Distraction Stimmer: he's big and scary so I expect him to be targeted, so I arm him with extra armor and parry weapons (Boning swords when available) and use Gene upgrades to increase his wounds with 'Walk it off' Muscle skill to recover wounds/flesh wounds while running at the enemy (he's the next in line to get a Frenzon collar). - Killy CC Forgeboss: take 'Bull charge' (another Frenzon/Stim slug stash aficionado here) and 2 Chainaxes to start (later to become Power hammers or Heavy chain cleavers) and do the actual killing while the Stimmer attracts all the enemy suppressive fire. - Specialist with Iron flesh (he can spend his XPs to get his Bs up anyway) and Grenade launcher and Smoke ammo. - 2x CC focused Bruisers with Prime specimen +1 A and 2 Brute cleavers each (eventually they too will get Frenzon collars) - 2x Shooty Bruisers with Prime specimen +1 Bs and Shotguns or Bolters or alternatively Iron flesh +1W with combat shotguns (since their BS doesn't matter as much with those templates). - 1x Alpha lineage Bully (the snotty 5th son of an overtyrant... if he lives long enough he might get Overseer or Iron will skills to boss people around). This is what I aim for in the first few games of a campaign, after which I tend to get 1 new Forge boss for each 2 new shooty Bruisers (getting them with Bs3+ and decent guns mid-to-late campaign makes them still relevant and keeping up with more experienced fighters). Anyway, keep up the good work and cheers! :)

Great content as usual :) About the chem dealer: he makes Frenzon collars a common item and can get you one before each game (as you noticed you have to pay for it after the game but he also has Fixer so you have a 1/3 chance to get it essentially for free).

Great video. Regarding Forgeborn, one option I've found to be viable is what I like to call the Forge Missile (a play on Fur Missile as this build is an attack dog): Heavy Rock Saw, Furnace Plates, Frenzon Collar. Point them at an enemy character/priority target and let them loose. Combined with my Tyrant, Stimmer and Boss it creates another fighter that puts a lot of pressure on my opponent. Plus it's funny.

On Forge Born vs Bullies. You can gene smith your Forge Born with Over Developed Muscles and get the extra movement with the same strength for 5 creds. I use my chepos as smoke grenade spam so the movement and strength combined is top notch.
@Bobas_Bookstore
@Bobas_Bookstore 2 года назад
I wanted Goblins in my gang so I took forgeborn and gave them Proto-Goliath. That gives them 6in move, give them a handflamer and shooting skills and you can hipfire a flamer from 12 inches + template. Maybe not the most efficient but pretty cool
@wellywoodwargaming

@Lokd0wn

While I can see where you're coming from in respect to the Forgeborn, I do think they have a place. As you say, movement isn't everything. But in a gang where everything else is base movement 4, that extra movement can be very useful. Sure you can go for Natborn - Prime Specimen for movement 5, but BS/T/W are usually what I'm going for with that. And the whole Unborn - Proto Goliath thing is basically making your Goliath into an Orlock essentially. They're also ideal meat shields for Natborn Leaders/Champs as being Natborn puts their Cool into the possibly fail range. So Hotheaded really pays off there. It also shouldn't be overlooked that as they're Prospects they get full access to the pistol/CC weapons available at the Trading Post/Black Market, whereas Bullies are stuck with what's on their list.
@wellywoodwargaming
@wellywoodwargaming Год назад
Great points there!
@Lokd0wn
@Lokd0wn Год назад
And if you really want to crank the min-maxing a Vatborn Forge-born with Overdeveloped Musculature is basically a Bully but +1 Movement, -1 Initiative for +5 creds. And at Strength 4, the discounted Fighting Knife is a much better proposition. So the cheap loadout of Fighting Knife, Stub Gun and Furnace Plates is very viable.

@Marlerc11

@@wellywoodwargaming I have not played a lot but I'm looking to play some campaigns this new year. On paper Chem alchemy just looks so damn expensive and gene smithing is a x1 purchase and just looks so abusable to the point were some players have to be mindful not to overdo it. I'm just scared because I don't know competitive a lot of the guys I'll be playing with this year and I doubt I'll be an arbitrator.

What are your thoughts on the Stub Cannon? It's cheap and has Knockback. Boltgun is great, but that ammo roll is brutal.
@wellywoodwargaming
@wellywoodwargaming Год назад
I like it. I prefer a shotgun with solid and Scatter though by far as st5 over st4 is pretty situational unless you're playing against lots of squats and goliaths. Even then damage 2 on the solid is just so much better.
@McToast1337
@McToast1337 Год назад
@@wellywoodwargaming One thing you shouldn't forget about Knockback is that it increases S of the weapon by 1 if you can push somebody into an obstacle, making it S6 and wounding T3 gangers on 2+ now. I believe Stub Cannons are better than most people give them credit for. However, they are still not great. I usually take one or two at gang creation and don't touch them again later on. In my opinion they'd need to either have their cost reduced to 15c, have their long range increased to 24" or get a short range modifier of +1 to become a somewhat viable option.
@wellywoodwargaming
@wellywoodwargaming Год назад
@@McToast1337 incorrect. Knockback never increases strength of a weapon. It can, if knocked back into an object increases the damage by one.
@McToast1337
@McToast1337 Год назад
@@wellywoodwargaming Thanks for the correction. Makes the Stub Cannon even worse overall compared to a shotgun. I usually try to upgrade to Bolt Gun or Combat Shotgun as fast as possible.

You regularly point out that Heavy Flamers are rubbish but I'm curious why you feel that way? Flamers seem to be rather effective weapons generally and I'd like to know why you feel the big boys aren't worth the time. Is it cost, range, or something else?
