Why use GW kits for these guys? For £15 for four figures I'd expect them to come with a LOT more options than that. Something like the Frostgrave Soldiers box gives you twenty figures for £25 most of whom look pretty ragged, they already have hand weapons and a much better choice of arms. Some GW guns and some heads from your bits box and they'd fit right in. The Frostgrave Cultist box has heads with capirotes so you can get proper 90's style Redemptionists and again a few weapons from the bits box would work.

That's the only thing I don't like about this box is the price. The frostgrave models are a great choice and definitely look like redemptionists. I'm currently filming a small series on better options for these guys and with a better price tag. Are the frostgrave models hard plastic? Thank you for the recommendation 👍

@@HouseOfChaosUK Yes - they are regular polystyrene. The Stargrave Troopers box might work for Palanite Enforcers (but I think you'd need to figure out a work around for shock batons and use plasticard for the shields) but they have a lot of weapon options as do the other two boxes. And they do female sets that aren't absurdly sexist. I think the other Stargrave plastic sets would need some "grimdarking up" to fit in to the Necromunda aesthetic (they're trying to appeal to a broad sci-fi cross section) but they're a useful source of weapons and bits - the Stargrave boxes have briefcases and datapads, whilst the Frostgrave boxes have coils of rope, bags slung over a shoulder and so on. The Frostgrave weapons vary from "realistic" to "GW absurdity" in size. My only irritation with the Stargrave boxes was that all of the briefcases / data pads / communicators etc are carried in the left hand - so if you want a civilian schlepping along with a bag in both hand you have an issue. And, because they're all designed by the same guy, you don't have to carve up arms to get them to fit at the shoulder - every box is cross compatible. The only major downside is that they are proper 28mm rather than the bloated 32mm that GW use these days - but when you're looking down on them on the table it's not so noticeable. The closest equivalent in the the North Star boxes to the four figures for £15 of hive scum is the Frostgrave Wizards boxes - 4 bodies, 20 heads, 20 right arms, 20 left arms, 23 bits of equipment, charms and bags, and 3 familiars - which looks like a lot more than GW are offering for the same money. The Wargames Atlantic range is worth a look too. They do a set of giant spiders that you could use for wee beasties in the hive and some "not Imperial Guard" stuff too. The Colony 87 range from Crooked Dice in the UK are a range that was inspired by one bloke's desire to have civilians that would fit into the 40K universe. These are metal figures but if you want a shopkeeper, child or other innocent bystander they're excellent value. I think that if I was looking for a source of Scum & Villainy from the GW range my current choice would be the Genestealer Cult Combat Patrol box - I'd keep the twenty acolytes and the Goliath truck and eBay the rest. Those acolytes look, to me, like they're wearing work clothes with the re-enforced knees etc - swap the heads and some of the weapons and I think you'd have a good non-affiliated gang plus a truck / terrain piece.

@malcolmrose3361 wow that's a very indepth and informative review. I'm just checking them out now and like you said a bit of plasticard or a route around your bits box is all it would take to grimdark them up. I've recently picked up a combat patrol box for that very reason. I may even keep the Goliath truck as terrain. I would love to see any conversion work you have done on models as I really feel i/we could learn a thing or two.

@@HouseOfChaosUK With the Frostgrave / Stargrave stuff it's as simple as sticking Stargrave arms on Frostgrave bodies (or vice versa) and picking an appropriate head. They are completely compatible with one another. I think the biggest danger is that you wind up buying every box and having a 100 or more plastic figures and god knows how many bits. Most of the sets have the same format - four sprues with 5 bodies and a generous selection of heads, arms, and spare bits. Mixing the GW arms and heads with the Stargrave / Frostgrave stuff can be a bit more difficult but a bit of care in component selection (and a willingness to cut someone off at the elbow) can get you past it. And a little greenstuff to get the heads to sit right works fairly well most of the time. The other GW set I'd like to have a go with is the old Empire Flagellants box but they're proving a little difficult for me to find locally (I live in Southern Spain). I think that you could really get some Ingmar Bergman "Seventh Seal" vibes in the Hive with those. The Ash Wastes doesn't particularly appeal but I think that the Flagellants with heads and bits from the Skitari Rangers could work well together.
