Once more the tolling of the Unboxing Bell. Once more the raising of the knife. Once more the slashing of the spittle veil as the Bard returns to life. - Ancient Rhyme Ending illustration by Tom Fummo of www.penflower-ink.com/
@@jonathanlane444 Dubs for truth. Although If GW does it I wonder if Pr*maris will be in it? Possibly giving it a tone more akin to Space Crusade, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.
He plays an unhinged, growling wizard brilliantly. He plays an unhinged, growling dwarf brilliantly. Turns out his Paladins are also unhinged and growl a lot. So do his maidens, shopkeeps, and his Gelatinous Cubes.
I went with "Bugger me, it's the Bard!" Thankfully there was no-one around to point out the wealth of innapropriate humour to be had from a priest saying this. Though what would a week be without another threat of Excommunication...
Hail all! I hope you enjoy this video. I realised just now that I never got around to discussing the books that are sold separately with the extra gangs and rules. There is little to say except that the new version is more like a solid standalone game that can develop into something resembling the Necromunda that veterans know. It's an interesting distinction but dwelling on it might be beyond the purview of a humble unboxing video. I can say this: Its certainly not a starter set - it's much more robust and complete than that.
I think the only thing I couldn't get away from with the box was my reaction to the Escher models in general - unpacking my old metal ones. The new ones I felt lack the variety of surface texture and character - they just don't feel all that individual. I was very impressed with the new Goliaths in comparison to the metal originals (never mind the plastics), but no, these were not my girls. Other than that though, I did like the box in general and thought it was a big step up for GW in box set standards for these days at least.
Great unboxing and analysis as always. I am amazed how GW does and (probably) insists on detail and precise painting in their models but the box art and tile art are terrible. The painted models just look so out of place. (As you said, cutting costs and corners)
@@reverenddmo8944 I should like to add that I miss the concept of the juve. Could it be that they now shy away from representing violent youth in games? Youth in discord is at the core of punk. Another shaft added to the undermining, eh?
Totally agree with your take on the lore. Or as Tolkien said: "Part of the attraction of the L.R. is, I think, due to the glimpses of a large history in the background: an attraction like that of viewing far off an unvisited island, or seeing the towers of a distant city gleaming in a sunlit mist. To go there is to destroy the magic, unless new unattainable vistas are again revealed. "
The bard returns to us. Like a comet splitting the sky, his meanderings beyond the horizon are none of our concern but must add to his legend. Truly this is gold.
@@neurocidesakiwi yeah not sure he knows what he's got going. If I were the bard I'd be going balls to the wall. Potentially making a living out of buying all the cool toys you like and reviewing them in funny voice isn't a bad gig if you can get it.
Spekd* ...ha...yeah that Hero Quest video was epic...got me to subscribe...loved playing that game with my cousin as kids/ tweens..we even made up our own games and rules...
@@ChainsawDunDeez i got my hands on it when i hit 12 ish me and my brothers played HQ everyday for a good few years. the bars has some awesome unboxings and reboxings ☺
YES! Oh god yes, The bard is back with another crrrrrracking unboxing! How joyous is this fine day, my eyes tear up at the mere thought of this video ending. May the bard ever prosper!
I love your insights. You've clearly got a deep appreciation for all aspects of the medium; from the artwork, to the mechanics, to the written descriptions in the manual. You can wade through the minutiae and really grab at the essence of the thing. Your comedic presentation / styling is just icing on the cake. Keep up the great work! 👍
As was foretold by the ancient scrolls of yore, the bard has returned to complete his cracking unboxing! I was worried for a while that this channel was dead.
I've discovered why the bard doesn't post more videos, he knows we'll keep coming back to watch the old videos over and over again because we need too once we get a taste of the bard.
Wow wow wow - random click on a video about board game unboxing - and being greeted by this epic intro. You sir are amazing ! I dont care for GW stuff but damn i liked your presentation ! PS - well done with that knife flip :D
I would totally watch videos where you play one player board games. The concept is cool I’ve never done it, I believe you would be the most popular gamer on any platform. Here’s hoping, with a slight bit of begging 🖖🏼♾
I say this is a fair criticism and I've actually asked the design team behind Necromunda to get more gritty details, however... they believe their audience doesn't want this and only wants to be sold the 'war'. I disagree with that as 40K to me is this vast epic struggle and a struggle of what it is to be human itself with a great deal of hypocrisy and confusion as you rightly say. However apart of the magic that is 40K is it's open source take, where it encourages players to insert there own stories into this universe. One of the best writers for 40K came into the hobby like many others and has added to the universe. (I want to say his name is Guy Hayley but my memory isnt good these days). I guess we have to prove to GW that the universe we love and importantly what we want to see in there works. I do see House Escher being haughty though and using a high got hic slang, as to mock those they believe to be below them and also ironically mocking those hive spire nobles who themselves look down from there towers. Good to see you back again Bard and hope to see you cover more of the GW influx of goodies, wallet permitted of course.
There is merit in your sentiments. I can understand, to a point, the position of the game's developers; however, I am not sure we need to be sold the same war over and over. The underhive offers a distinct kind of battlefield - far from any other in the Warhammer 40,000 setting. It is a shame that GW's eyes are always fixed to galactic affairs.
BardicBroadcasts Yes that was the creative director of Necromunda I spoke to briefly, he just believed people wouldn't be interested in that aspect; he was also a person who wanted to revitalise Necromunda as he plays the game regularly, so his creative input may have skewed things that way, in seeing things differently. I was asking him about if we could get more civilian inspired terrain and vehicles, like I want to see a human shanty town type thing and how the Imperiums symbols would get treated or if they would be treated with anything other than mild curiosity. I would like to imagine things like a cobbled together home in the underhive that has these symbols built into it for convenience or simple need. I thought it would be poetic in a way. Like could you imagine rat burgers being cooked over an aquila simply because it was just a handy bit of metal that could be used. Because in between all the gang warfare there will be those mutants, heretics and degenerated humans all striving to survive. As you say a missed opportunity.
well some of the old sentiments have been wiped away, by what I think is Trends/sales, and Iv talked to some of my friends about the lore getting worse and worse- ex back in the days the Imperium of man was shown to be an evil fascist one and we all knew there were no nice guys in 40k now the writers forget the that, because of needing a good guy
Glaaki13 That was Rogue Trader when it was first being created. It's evolved a lot since then and the imperium of Man is a very complex domain made up of a million world's. The lore is great it's not getting worse, it's focused on creating more factions and paying homage to established cannon. And the Dark Imperium book is fantastic imo.
@@ShadowFox178 lol let agree to disagree the BL horus hersy books are for me really bad but i did read 20 of them lol -im not that much in to the new 40k and im hearing a lot of critics but mostly from SM fans and as im a none chaos or imperium fan I dont know
