I just started jogging last Monday. I got back from a flight and realized I could barely buckle the seat belt on the plane. I’ve done a total of 7 jogs so far. I’m always super happy when I’m done each time. Only can do 16 min miles but it’s ok. I’ll get better.

That’s so cool to hear that you decided to start running you will get so many benefits from it if you can make it a regular habit! And that’s sounds like a great start, just make sure you don’t over do it in the beginning let your body slowly adapt to the load and it’s only good you run slow and not so far in the beginning then you can slowly increase the distance you run. I wish you the best of luck 😀

It doesn't matter what your pace is... you're now a runner. Welcome to your new lifestyle! Don't get frustrated if you're not seeing change right away, or suddenly STOP seeing change. Plateaus are common, but keep at it, and you'll eventually bust through and see the results of all your work!

Heck yeah! When I started running again after years of not running, my walks were faster. Once I started running more than 3 miles is also when I notice significant weight loss. All with steady heart rate.

I started running every single day a little over 2 years ago, with the goal of doing it for 1000 days straight, and if I didn't have the 10 minute rule, I would've quit a long time ago. It's saved me on days where I'm sick, injured, exhausted from work, don't have much time, or simply really don't feel like it. I rarely have to run for the "bare minimum" as I call it, but if I didn't have the 10 minute rule set from the start, I don't know if I would've made it through the first 100 days. 10 minutes is a very attainable goal, and just about anyone can fit it in!

I have a 30 minute rule and usually find I go further. I also have a dog and one thing to get me motivated is to put on my running clothes before I take her for her morning walk. That way when I get back I'm already dressed for a run and warmed up a bit, and I really have no excuse to not go out and run.
@goranwinblad

That’s a great rule, and a great video! Your trail shots are stunning. You’re so right, getting going is the hardest part and by 10 minutes in its usually feeling good. I run everyday too (but just once a day) and I use a 2 km minimum, if I’m not feeling it by 1 km out, I can turn around and head back, which is still 2 km further than I’d have got sitting on the couch

I absolutely love your channel. I started running in March of this year and immediately fell in love, but unfortunately I experienced serious leg pains about 90% of the time. I had countless visits to the doctors and spent so much time on discussion forums, still with no answers. I can't describe the mental impact it hand on me, not being able to do something I fell in love with. Now 9 months later (last week) I decided to see a podiatrist on my own accord and was given ALL the answers to my leg pains. I have extremely flat feet along with serious muscle knotting in my calves. I'm getting custom insoles, proper shoes, and massage therapy within the next 2-4 weeks and I CANT WAIT TO GET BACK. Your channel has really helped me maintain motivation through these struggles and I thank you for that. Otherwise I may have given up and accepted my doctors recent opinion that "your body just isn't built for running...". Anyways, keep up the amazing content!

Everything is easier if you take it in smaller bites whether it is exercise or projects. I am 75 so I don’t set my total run/walk time and I do intervals where I walk at 4.2 miles per hour and then short bursts of 7 miles or 6 miles per hour. I usually end up exercising between 30 to 50 minutes depending on if I add cross fit exercise to the run/walk. It is so easy to just give yourself couch time but you feel so much better if you work out. I know this is for young people but it has good tips for any age.
@hustentropfen
@hustentropfen 2 года назад
so friggin true, if u overcome the hurdle of 'getting out' it's almost done. the distance after that is actually not that important. sometimes you reach new distances/paces sometimes you don't. but the feeling after having done something after you had to convince yourself is always the same satisfaction. Back then when I had a stressful job, where I could not tell the exact time of finishing i started to train in the early morning, and the positive effect of all the -mines were just great and made me make it through a stressful day.

I think this is great advice, and that it can be applied on so many things where we might have a mental threshold. This motivated me to head to university earlier than I had planned today (it reminded me that I enjoy it when I’m there even though I often don’t enjoy to pack my school things and lunch/dinner). And the walk/bike ride over there will often make me feel more energized. Once I leave uni. after a few hours of studying it feels so good because I’ve learned new things and lots of stress is removed because putting in work will have you stay on track. Tack för påminnelsen, Göran!🙂🌼

I use it for cleaning. There are so many things I'd rather be doing, but I hate living in a mess, so I set the alarm for 10 minutes... and when it goes off, I often keep going until the job is done. But even just 10 minutes is better than none!

I ran for ~40 minutes this morning, I was finished at about 7:40. In the Army it's typical to go for 40 minute runs like this. Finding motivation to run later in the day on your own is a different story but I'm trying to home back to what motivated me to run twice a day in the morning and evening before I joined the Army.

I started running last year and didn't make it through the first winter, at first because of an injury, but then because the cold and wet weather was so uninspiring. So now I recently bought a basic spin bike to get through the worst winter days and it has been working out even better than I thought. I swapped out my mid-week semi long run for two 1-2h easy rides instead and I've ended up feeling more well rested, both physically and mentally (probably because of the welcome variation in training), feeling stronger and performing better on my runs while simultaneously increasing my weekly volume. I keep it very simple, no power meter or expensive zwift subscription, just ride by heart rate and take the opportunity to stream something I wouldn't normally get to watch with my partner :p Highly recommended!

Thanks for sharing your story! Yeah it can for sure be a good idea to mix up your running with some cycling and other physical activities, I also do a bit of cycling but mainly in the summer since I don’t like to train inside. But you just gotta find what works for you and watching something on the tv while cycling sounds like a great way to make it a bit more fun!

After a few years of ultra training and running, several buckles and many 50K+ finishes (from "1 mile" to 100 miles in about 14 months) - the last year or so has proven a little harder to find the motivation. This "silly" rule is phenomenal advice for anyone from the very beginner to a seasoned, even exhausted, veteran. Thanks for the little nudge - I'm gonna head out now... and at least get those 10 minutes in :)
@mpadlite2925
@mpadlite2925 2 года назад
I've been applying the same principle to my personal training for most of my life. Simply telling myself that all that I "demand of myself" is to go to the gym/pool/track/... and start my program/swim/run. And then if it doesn't "take off" it's OK to go home. And 99 times of 100 I get a really good workout. Maybe sometimes not with 100% intensity, and in rare cases I even "give in" and abandon the exercise. But in those cases I reckon that my body (and/or mind) needed the rest, and I still appreciate my effort, knowing that what ever little I did was far better for both my physical and mental health than just staying home would have been. So Yea it's basically "underpromise" in order to "fool yourself" to get started, and then to "overdeliver", by letting the enjoyment of moving and exerting yourself take over until You've actually finished Your program/swim/run... So "get to it" :) Best regards

I love your 10 minute rule... but I REALLY love that you're kind enough to yourself to call it when you're still not feeling it after 10 minutes instead of forcing yourself further. It's easy to forget that running is supposed to make out lives BETTER, to add health and enjoyment. It's not healthy or enjoyable to force yourself to do something your mind and body truly aren't wanting to do. I'm going to try your 10 minute rule 5x a week, and if I'm not feeling it, I'll switch to a strength workout or yoga. Still better than melding with the sofa!

I was taught to warm up more the shorter the run is, and I feel it if I don't warmup properly before the run that's harder to get into it. Can anyone please share their experience with this? Thanks!

Hi! The best warmup is just to start in a really easy pace and perhaps also start with some walking and then you will feel when your body is ready to run a bit faster.

It seems that this feeling is not unique. I struggle at times just to get out. Thanks for this. I like this 10 minute rule . I will try it this week. And to run everyday with short distances. I love your channel.

This works very well.. another tip is making sure you have your running gear ready beforehand. If you have to look for your clothes and shoes you make it a lot harder.

I am sold. Ran yesterday 6 km I said I was fine for another few days, but can't help myself cause I am already dressing up for a not so friendly weather outside. Rock on!

Been running every day for 489 days now. Started doing it working from home early Covid and it's great on the dark parts of the year, going out during lunch, getting a run in and some sunlight as well :)

Beautiful scenery where you run! For me, weather certainly plays a big role in my resistance to run: recent heavy cold rains have made flood conditions, not so fun to run in and harder than running in snow. But, yes, generally the hardest part is "just show up" vs "just do it"!

Yeah we are lucky with the surroundings we have over hear 😊 yeah it can for sure be tough to go out on days with demanding weather condition. But you never regret it afterwards 😀

Kul video, Göran! Har du noen tanker om VDOT-calculator til å planlegge intensitetssoner på løpingen?

You are a mind reader I need motivation. With all the rain and dark evenings here in Glasgow. Thanks man I'll use that 10minute rule from now on 👍
