Hi everyone,
something a little different today. One of my needle cases was spied in the background to one of my videos and I was asked if I had a tutorial on how she was made. I didn't but promised I'd show her in more detail and do a 'walk through' style tutorial..... so here it is.
Pt. 1 shows my needle case up close and personal. I run thought what supplies you will need and a couple of options to consider for making her. There are also two works in progress so you can see the two new needle cases I'm making, from start to finish over the course of this wee mini series.
Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to watch. I hope you enjoy this and the subsequent videos in the series. If you have any questions or if I have confused you (!) and you need some clarification then please just shout out in the comments below the video.
C.xx

An absolutely brilliant Tutorial. You explained everything so well, and helped me so much. I prefer the neat edge and could use your method to make patch work covers for any project. Journal, pouch, envelope etc. i am so inspired and thankful.

Lol.... always the way, isn't it 🙂 Yes 100 % wool felt Karen. Have a great day and hope you enjoy making this little needle case. If you want another idea for Xmas that is sewing related take a look at the mini collapsible thread catchers. There are loads of videos on YT for these but one that will give you the basic idea is here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g5grrcDmmVM.html. This lady uses the top of a mason jar but I prefer a plastic or cardboard ring. That's what I used for mine and it is really sturdy and was just the top from a Pringles tub. I'm never without my thread catcher, either when I'm away travelling or just n the lounge at night sewing. Soooo easy to make to. Hugs C xx

Oh Karen, can I have a sneak peek if you do? I'd love to see it... but no pressure if you'd rather not. They do lend themselves to slow stitching don't they. Thanks for leaving me a comment and also for watching. C.xx

Hi Carol! I am finally biting the bullet and I'm going to make these for Christmas gifts this year. So I'm watching this tutorial for the third time because it is SO GOOD!!! I do have a question for you. Is your felt 100% wool? I have found that the felt I get in my local fabric store (that has polyester in it) is difficult to pierce with my needles. Please keep these tutorials coming. Your work is so beautiful.
@oakhousejournals
@oakhousejournals 2 года назад
Hi Karen, thank you for that lovely compliment about the tutorial. That was so kind of you and has made my day. Yes the felt I used is wool felt. I find the same with cheaper felts and to be honest I don't actually like the feel of it. If you can use the wool felt it will look and feel a lot nicer especially if these are for Xmas gifts. If yo have any other questions on the video just shout, happy to help. Hugs C xx

A great project Carol. I was thinking that you could use bondaweb as an alternative to fabri tac or other glues to attach the fabric pieces. I love to see wool felt so much more tactile than synthetic. 💕

What a clever little project ... I think even a non-sewer like me to could give this a go! Doing a walk-through first was a wonderful idea, explaining the different options and all the little tips you provided was great, thanks. That 'watercolour' fabric you showed is to die for - so beautiful, such gorgeous colours! I look forward to playing along with this series ... blue or green? Which will she chose? TFS. L.

Oh fantastic... hope you can follow my babbling ok? I can imagine the gorgeous fabrics that Angela gifted you, Ann. She has such an eye for colour, whether it's fabric or papers, doesn't she? Let me know how you get on with the needle case if you have a moment. I'd love to know. C xx

Hi Carol! I’m a new subscriber and I’m so happy I found your channel. I love this project. Your instructions are very clear and easy to understand. I know it takes a lot of work to prep for this and I appreciate the work you did to do this. Not great at sewing (my mother was a seamstress, LOL), I think I rush too much. But, I’m going to give this a go, it seems fairly easy. I’m looking forward to your next part. ❤️

Big Warm Welcome! My mum use to knit and I'm no great shakes at that...isn't it funny. Delighted you are going to give it a go. Check out the comment from Carol Rigby to use bondaweb instead of glue if you are not going to sew... but I know you can sew really. Your mum wouldn't have let you off that easily....lol. C.xx

a stitch and flip method would make this easier and faster. you could lay out the pattern of material you like take a photo to refer back to. lovely tutorial

@oakhousejournals 3 года назад
The photo method is a good one and I've used that on other projects. Not quite sure what you mean by the stitch and flip method though. Sorry If I'm being a bit slow here. C xx
@melanienicholson2834
@melanienicholson2834 3 года назад
the stitch and flip is also referred as the quilt as you go, or crazy quilting. all edges are sewn so no raw edges or having to turn raw edges under.

Ahhhh I understand now Melanie. I'm not a quilter so didn't know the term. Thank you so much for explaining. Hugs C xx
