Hi Sandy, hope you are well xx I don't know if you have ever tried using shears (the ones with jagged blades - think that's what they are called, for cutting wool. I've found that it provides a different finish, less blunt; I suppose like hairdressers thinnin scissors. Thank you again for a wonderful tutorial xx
Thanks for the tutorial! I love the effect but I wonder what to do with all that cut off wool. Seems like an awful waste to just throw it away. What do you do with it? The only thing that comes to my mind is using it in the core of some other needle felted base body.
Glad you enjoyed the tutorial. I never throw any wool away. As you said, I use it for core or, as it is 100% sustainable and biodegradable, it makes a great addition to compost. Or, pop it in a container and the birds, and critters can also line their nests with it. ☺
After i have felted the long hair it looks good. But after some time, it starts to frizz out and look terrible. My unicorn tail was nice and smooth and laid against the legs - but now has a serious case of bed hair and sticks straight out. What am i doing wrong?
Most likely. It may not be pure wool? Or it may be a very fine, Merino but that would still last, as long as it's not overley handled once made. A Corriedale, or Shetland, is more robust. Do you have wool left to replace the tail? If you need to, feel free to send a photo to: info@lincolnshirefenncrafts.com then I should be able to give you better advice. 😊 @Naptime73
