Several pleas related to the NEET-UG 2024 examination were heard by the Supreme Court today. Some of these pleas concerned allegations of unfair means used in the exam, while others focused on the National Testing Agency's decision to award grace marks to 1563 candidates due to loss of exam time.
During today's proceedings, the Union Government and the NTA informed the Supreme Court that they will cancel and withdraw the results of the 1563 candidates who received compensatory marks. These candidates will be notified of their actual scores obtained in the NEET UG 2024 exam held on May 5, 2024. They will have the option to either keep their original marks (without the compensatory marks) or participate in a re-exam scheduled for June 23, 2024, conducted by the NTA.
The re-exam for these affected candidates will indeed take place on June 23rd, and the results will be announced by June 30th, 2024. This timeline is intended to ensure that counselling for NEET UG 2024 can begin from July 6th, 2024.
The Supreme Court bench noted these submissions, stating that the scorecards issued to the 1563 affected candidates on June 4, 2024, will be nullified. Those candidates will be informed of their actual scores without the compensatory marks. For candidates opting out of the re-exam, their results will be based on their original marks obtained on May 5, 2024. The marks of candidates appearing for the re-exam will be based on that retest, with their earlier marks from May 5, 2024, disregarded.
