I think the MCAT is harder in general, but the NEET exam is hard because you take it at such a young age. If you were to take NEET at 21 years old then it wouldn't be as bad.

My friend, I suggest you to read the NTA and AAMC guidelines. It will give you a clear vision behind the exam pattern and structure. NTA designed papers to familiarise students with theoretical based concepts and long duration study. For example, they take out the preparation percentage of the average students then create a proper exam pattern. On the other hand, AAMC and Cambridge Testing Agency focus on the critical thinking skills and applied conceptual framework, which specifically examine the applied knowledge of the candidate.

Give 4 hours per day for two years that is what UPSC and NTA design their selection process scheme. Indian education system is not bad. Actually, the reason is the communication gap between the educational institutions and students . Here, people are more focused on political topics and matters than the educational heritage of ancient India and modern Western system of colonial and independent India

Quick question, if you don't mind. What actually makes NEET difficult, is the cut throat competition for GOVT SUBSIDISED seats ,cuz you know middle class Indian family can't afford 85 lakh+ for private medical colleges which intake applicants with much lower scores. Then why don't you join Indian Private medical college (much lower fees compared to US medical schools, much lesser efforts in terms of admission process, score requirements)? Is it bc US degree is more recognized world wide?

Even when India has almost 5 times the population of the US. I have said that my family moved back to India but I still have the US green card. Me and my brother are staying here in Philadelphia.

Loved this! I always wondered how different the process is between the Indian and US system. One thing I did realize is that the US medical and other doctoral programs like optometry really focuses on material comprehensively and I feel like that is a huge reason why it takes us so long to complete our doctorate programs. Looking at the differences between the NEET and MCAT exam is a great comparison. Since the NEET is taken by many 17 year olds makes sense why questions are more straight up. The Indian and American Medical System both release some great docs either way! Great information btw :D

Hi Arvind, great video! I did my HS in India and took NEET there. I did not receive any "cast-reservation" benefits. Although I scored in the 98-97 percentile and got into an Indian government medical college, I believe the MCAT is much harder than the NEET. Compared to NEET where questions are pretty straightforward, MCAT is a logical test that makes it more challenging. NEET is more like a content review test, while the MCAT requires understanding concepts and applying them to different scenarios. For ESL students, including myself, the MCAT gets more rigorous as it requires fast reading, which is something that Indian students don't get to practice often during their HS. Unfortunately, I decided not to pursue medicine in India and immigrated to the US a couple years ago. I am a BME major at Umich Ann Arbor and taking my MCAT in the next two years. Your channel and videos are amazing.

To get into a prestigious government college in India like AIIMS, you need a score of at least 680 and above. For other government colleges that are not as famous, a score of 620 and above is required. Private colleges, which are more expensive than government colleges, can be entered with a score above 400.

While preparing for NEET, we practice all kinds of questions (including passage based) because most students are also simultaneously preparing for their 12th boards. I thinks that helps in understanding the concepts better. Biology is very fact based - but the biotechnology questions are particularly challenging (but always fun to solve). Chemistry is concept based.....but there are a million exceptions and the questions usually come from these exceptions. Physics is almost completely dependent on your conceptual understanding. It is incredibly difficult if you aren't completely familiar with every type of question that could possibly come in the exam. Unless you are someone that truly loves and enjoys reading physics.....it is going to be a pain in the ass. NEET exam is very hard to crack in the 1st attempt. Even great students that get 95%+ in boards don't get great marks in the 1st attempt. Only students that are exceptionally good and fast at understanding concepts or hv another family member that is a doctor, usually perform well and get 650+ . Most students end up taking 1 or 2 drop years to crack NEET. If you want to know more about the pressure that students feel while preparing for these exams then i recommend you watch the series-'Kota factory'. This show is not about NEET aspirants but about a similar exam called IIT-JEE - which is just as competitive and hard .

another major thing that stresses us out here preparing for neet is the number of reservations that are made. the major ones being the state quota and the caste reservations. basically, if you belong to a state then you get to enjoy the state quota provided by a renowned college of that state which consumes like 85% of the total seats and just 15% is left for the students belonging to the all India quota which further includes other sorts of reservations like the caste reservation etc. so admission into a good college becomes even more difficult when you belong to a state that doesn't have a good med college and you belong to the general category. also you need to get at least 680-690 for a prestigious college.

@@Saisenpai991 Med school acceptance in India is based off of 1 test, but that is not the case in other countries which take a holistic approach. The difficulty of the MCAT is not equal to the difficulty of being accepted into med school in Canada so you cannot use that as a metric to compare the exams. Yet we still have ~4% acceptance rate here, all things considered. Depending on which school you apply it can drop to 2% as well. This does NOT consider the MANY pre meds who change their mind early on in the undergraduate program either. In Canada we also have to sacrifice much more of our lives to preparing for med school applications, including thousands of hours in varied extracurricular activities, research experience, clinical and non clinical volunteering, casper exam, multiple minute interviews, maintenance of > 3.9 GPA -- the MCAT is a gruelling marathon of an exam but it is a SMALL part of our overall extreme application. Moreover, the MCAT actually tests understanding of material and critical analysis rather than just being able to recall facts quickly or solve a physics problem in 40 seconds, which is arguably more difficult to train for and requires years and years of honing your knowledge, test taking abilities and ability to dissect research texts.

@Mayank Chaudhary So are they subjected to this kind of treatment even now? I know a lot of people with good rich families having reservation certificates and get easy admissions , one of my known person who owns a range rover and gets admission in UCMS( AIQ quota ) at 567 with SC quota . He has an iPhone , a macbook , an iPad , a smart watch , and literally so much. Damn he's oppressed ! Reservation is creating more problems than upliftment right now in 2022...! The upliftment era using reservation is over (2000-2010) So please keep your thoughts to yourself . Economical reservation , YES, Required! Social reservation , NO , IT'S TRASH People these days even get fake General EWS(economically weaker section) certificates easily made and use it falsely. And everybody right now is at perfect Liberty to drink water , Like Please... This is 2022!
@praaarthanaaa
@praaarthanaaa Год назад
@@jasmine0613 no.. it's not.you are right that reservation should be removed for the upper class sc and st candidates. But you can't claim that they're not subjected to casteism. I,myself belong to SC category and we have been facing mild casteism for 33 years in workplace, residential area,etc. We can't buy a house in some apartments or places because the builder denies us by saying that they don't make deals with lower caste and communities. Yes, we're not that oppressed but i must say that people of my community have faced atrocities and they're still suffering from these things. In Rajasthan's private school, recently a 9 y/o boy was beaten to death by the teacher from.upper caste because he drank water from the pot. The point is... reservation is not the only solution. We have to be more kind to these people who have been oppressed, abandoned and humiliated by the society. I'm joining med school on lower score of 560 and i know that some of my general category friends who have scored 580 may not be able to get admission. That also breaks my heart. And i wish that reservation get limited to the most needy people.but Don't just say that we're not oppressed now ...ho and hear the cases in rural and urban areas of many Indian states where people belonging to lower categories are oppressed for performing basic activities!

Thank you for the detailed analysis!!! 😊❣ The ability to get into a good medical college in India depends on many factors like: 1. money: management/private college seats can be filled if the candidate has just the minimum qualifying marks: approx. 120, and a lot of money 💵 💵 2. region: some states have more competition due to more aspirants and higher cut offs than others 3. reservation: community/ caste based, Physically challenged, Economically weaker section(recently introduced, with the lowest cutoff) 4. your overall rank can also vary based on the individual subject marks(bio>chem>phy), no. incorrect answers and age. On a rough note, a candidate must get a 600+ to be on the safer side. That does not guarantee the "top" colleges though. I am a repeater. I got 440 last year, and can get a dental admission/ or ayurvedic course. I chose to take the exam again in 2023. Also, the no. of candidates appearing for the NEET exam is increasing year by year, 1.5 million were 2-3 yrs back, in 2023, they were around 2 M and this is bcz of the fact that droppers are increasing.. AND AND AND! after mbbs, we need to get our specialization (md/ms) which is of 3 yrs, ie. we also become dr after the age of 26! And for doing md after mbbs, we need to give another exam- INICET/ NEET-PG (NEET Post Graduation) which is also rank based so as to get different specializations (ortho, cardio, derma, gynae, internal med, etc.)

@ArvindRajan
@ArvindRajan 2 года назад
You can! The journey is definitely harder for international students but possible. From what I see, India does not have MCAT test centers so you will need to go to a different country to take the exam. In terms of preparation, look up what topics are covered on the exam and see what you already know/need to learn. I have another RU-vid video on MCAT prep. There are official test papers on the aamc website (but you do need to purchase them)

So MCAT you don’t need to worry until at least your second year of undergrad - once you learn all the prerequisite science content in your undergrad science degree, then I’d start studying dedicated for the MCAT.

The NEET cutoff is determined by various factors such as the total number of seats available, the difficulty level of the exam, and the overall performance of the candidates. So, while aiming for a score around 600 might seem feasible in some cases, it's crucial to stay updated on the official cutoff scores released by the authorities each year. Aspiring medical students should always aim to score higher than the cutoff to ensure they have the best chance of securing admission to their desired medical schools.
@archeekhamar

Hey, I was just wondering, since you took the MCAT and went over the neet questions, at a personal level being in the US education system, which exam did you think was more challenging based on the academic upfront? Like wrt the syllabus? ( ps: not comparing the difficulty level of admission process in any countries, just based on pure academia/sci knowledge)
@ArvindRajan
@ArvindRajan 2 года назад
Good question! Objectively, I think the MCAT is harder. For this exam, you need to not only know the content, but you need to know how to apply the content. Additionally, it’s a much longer exam which makes stamina an important factor. The NEET seemed like it tested concepts in a more straightforward way - if you knew the concepts, you could do the questions. Maybe I’m biased because I studied full time for the MCAT but not the NEET, but that’s my thoughts. Both are extremely challenging despite this though, and the thing that makes NEET especially difficult is that you take it at a much younger age than MCAT.

But yeah, sir, Id just like to ask you something that how did you manage to appear for the mcat with humanities along with science,, I mean see it's obviously a bit tough right to mug up things, when you aren't in a touch with it for last 4 to 5 years ig

I am a 12th passsout student from india can you suggest how I can get into medical colleges in USA and which exams I need to take ....
@ArvindRajan
@ArvindRajan 2 года назад
For US medical colleges you have to get a bachelors degree first to take all your prerequisite classes, and it might easier if you do the bachelors in the US. Then you take the MCAT exam which is used to apply to medical school. However it’s important to remember that you also need to do other stuff, like research, clinical experience, and volunteering to be competitive for a US medical school.
