This is a short review of my new Neewer Collapsible Softbox Diffuser for the 480 LED Panel.
I actually have a different model number on my lights but they look identical and seem to fit right.
I've just shown you how to set it up then quickly a comparison between the light with and without it.

This was very helpful 🙂 ☺️. Im a computer guy, i started looking for ways to step up my channel's video quality. Lighting was an obvious choice... Which is how i found my self-confidence dissolving... i spent the good part of 10 minutes failing to get the softbox attached. Found your video just on point! In all my great wisdom, a simple hint was all it took... Turns out i had been trying to install it with out removing the softbox over the barn door. I managed to successfully install the softbox by removing the barn door bracketing structure. Thanks!

We just realize that too, but I try to use an umbrella mount first and then connect the light in there and the space it gives u, let u tilt the led with the softbox on.

Lovely difference. I’m convinced. I just got the 530 set and I’m. Dry happy but it’s way too intense even with the diffuser and on 1% ! 😅 so these are a must

If you look at the flaps on the side with the cutout you’ll see that the cutout isn’t in the middle of the flap, it’s offset just like the knobs on the side of the lamp, which can attach to the lamp swivel using either the top or bottom screw thread. I don’t know why there’s two attachments points. Anyway, flip the soft box so the cutouts on the box to correspond to where the knobs are.

Adrian, great work - could you do the test but with comparable exposures? Ie turn the brightness down for the bare LED - at the moment it's almost impossible to compare the "softness" of the light sources (especially the "softbox"), since the bare LED image is obviously too bright on the face. Thanks!

You need to take the barn doors off the light. I was half asleep when I put on the soft box and then spent five minutes trying to figure out why the light was so faint. The barn doors on the light were closed in front of the light. Man, do I feel dumb!🤪

Great Adrian, very nice demonstration and good point about using available light to compensate the lack of back light:-) I think that the difference between the diffuser and the softbox is quite big. Did you take off the diffuser when testing the softbox?

Hey Adrian, I recently purchased regular 20"x28", 95w CFL softboxes and am considering returning them for these. So here's my questions: When using only the white lights on this panel, do you find that it would be comparable in light output to the 95w CFL? Also, because these are smaller, would they produce shadows on the wall behind me (using two of them)?

Nice job. Though the brightness can be turned down on the light ( as diffuser and then soft box subtract lumen output just by being on the way). Would have been interesting to see if you had reduced the panel brightness in diffuser only and bare panel so the bricks in the background were the same brightness as the soft box shot. Then the side by side would be a better comparison of only the diffusion/softening effects and shadow lines without the distraction of the added brightness differences that really are less relevant. Can agree 100% that the non rectangle shape these things take makes zero difference in the performance but is 100% annoying as F when you see it - you just want to squeeze the thing to get it squared. ;) I’d purchased the “kit” now in 2022 which comes with a stand and the diffuser. And even neewers own how to vid isn’t as clear on attaching it. I think putting the panel frame on the stand in the 90 deg horizontal hole so the panel sits forward of the stand makes it a bit easier still.

I was interessted in buying a neewer 480 led panel for my photography work. But however after seeing this i think i will look for something else. Without the softbox the light is quite unusable due to the harsh shadows. The attached softbox is still a very small lightsource and it can`t be tilted downwards with the softbox mounted. Thanks for sharing this video, it helped me to make my decision!

Actually, it can be tilted downward. I have these, and the recommended way to mount these is to insert your stand into the light frame at a 90 degree angle. This allows for tilt motion with the boxes installed.

I believe the whole unit doesn't actually go inside the soft box as you did here. I got mine today and there are velcro straps which keep it secure when not all the way inside.

Hi Adrian, thank you for your video. Looks really good with the softbox. Question...how do you angle the light to point downwards with the softbox on? It looks as if it would be stopped by the light stand? Am looking for lighting myself and am discovering that there are a hundred little practical considerations that pop up! Cheers, Oli.

Hey everyone one here I can’t post a picture but there is a way to tilt with the soft box … you use the side mount of the base of the light instead of the upright mount. (Hole)

Useful video but you did not cover how to fold the soft box back up again. I have just bought one and it's a nightmare to fold into the small bag it came in!

Hi Tim, Just bought two of these and carefully checked how they were packaged. To repack: flatten box and hold a corner in each hand (so holding in a diamond shape). Push both corners together away from you, which then brings the top and bottom corners towards you. Hold the two folded edges in each hand so you have almost created a cube shape. Puch one edge inside and at the same time while at the same time puching the two top edges together. Quickly get in the bag before it all springs open:) Honestly it is easy once you do it a few times.

Did you try the hinge and did it allow you to tilt the light down? Ideally I need it to be about 45° to a table top.

What type of stand do I need to buy to fit this ? And can anyone suggest a legit heaving duty light stand that isn't cheap and flimsy ..I don't mind spending extra for real build quality ..I'm sick of seeing all these dainty poor products.
