Sometimes the acting is over the top in such movies but I don't mind.Those movies had a better version of Tamil language. Coming to this song..mama means father in law and mappillai means son in law. Sort of carnatic 'jugalbandi' between father and son in law. Probably to-be son in law as I have forgotten the movie plot. And I must say after watching so many of your videos right till Vijay Sethupathy's interview, you guys must have had some previous incarnation in India. Else it's extremely difficult for a non Indian to watch such typical Indian content (even if money is involved). Here, typically North Indian sensibilities cannot appreciate West, East, South Indian stuff and vice versa. But you guys are truly Pan Indian ! The beauty of this genre of music is that you can sing an entire song with just the 7 notes. If the singer has good knowledge of the raga (a combination of notes in which a particular song is sung. There are about 74 Mega Ragas and 1000s of other ragas.) then he can introduce the notes themselves inbetween the songs and play with it as long as he wishes! That is where the real creativity of the singer comes in with his genious in singing the specific 'raga'. While both singers are brilliant at it, they also present a very comic rendition.

In Hindi they try to reproduce this song. But they couldn't match the genius of MR Radha and Sivaji Ganesan. This is one of finest examples of inimitable performing arts of highest order. In terms of music, voice and acting, this song impressively set the benchmark.
