This is a must watch Kamal hassan movie. This shows the high umemployment rates in the 1980s and the poverty due to that. Its gor a good message in the end too.

for understanding the poetical forces at play, you badly need subs for this. watching this without subs is like diving deep into a 100 feet well without water. bummer.

As the requester says, you should watch this movie. In this movie in one scene he's supposed to get an apple which fell on a garbage sewer n eat it as the character played by Kamal hassan is poor, didn't eat for days n he needed something.. so, he'd go for it and ate it. Apparently that scene was real, he explained about that scene in a show he hosts (bigg boss). He literally took that apple from sewer n ate for that scene. This movie shows how poverty pushes someone in raw and flesh. So, yeah.. please do watch it.

It's more like "The color of poverty is red"... more to do with the movie's touches on socialism/communism (not the communism the people in the US have this inbred hatred/fear of.... It is very different here... )... And as I keep mentioning, the thing most Indian movies lack is a good translation/subtitling... Its a beautiful and deep romantic song, the essence of which you guys have missed due to the lack of subtitles altogether.. There are versions with subtitles but they lack the depth of the song...
