That evangelical scholar has simply been influenced by the huge set of writings by secular historians and archaeologists to discredit the Exodus. Secular historians start with the wrong time period for Hebrew residence in Egypt, don't find evidence in that time period (1200 BC), while ignoring massive evidence in another time period (1600 BC), and claim the Hebrews were never in Egypt. Then they pick the wrong path for the Exodus (Sinai peninsula), finding no evidence there, ignoring massive evidence on the Eastern side of what is now the Gulf of Aqaba (the land of Midian where Moses spent 40 years), and claim there is was no Exodus either. It is extremely easy to get swayed by so many professional opinions and take the theological escape-hatch of turning the story into a metaphorical lesson. May God help us all to allow the elegant simplicity and veracity of the Bible to grow in each of us continually, because while we may not struggle with the Exodus or history, the words of the Bible are so strong and powerful that they do challenge all of us, somehow, somewhere, if we are open enough to admit it.
Yes. It is a superb work because it looks at all the evidence objectively and gets the Exodus date discussion moving in the right direction: backwards in time. If you watch closely you will see the date suggested in the film starts out around 1600 BC but is shifted to 1450 BC by the end of the film to attempt to bring some other issues into an alignment. That 150 year shift at the end is the only thing in the film that we would call into question. In our book Israel FIRST israel-first-book.com/ in chapter 8 we put forward an idea, coming from a surprising source (even surprising to us) that the Exodus might have been in 1579 BCE, closer to the original starting point date of the film. But even if the Exodus was in 1450 BCE, and not 1579, that would be a significant improvement over the common and erroneous idea that it was in the 1200s BCE. So the work is absolutely excellent.
Yes the Hebrew Matthew has Hebrew word puns that should not be there if it was translated from Greek to Hebrew but shows that it may have been written in Hebrew first then translated to Greek.

Not sure where to find it but I remember he once said that of all the 1st century individuals who either claimed or were considered possible Messiah's, and apparently there were many, Yeshua was the only one with any credibility. He is speaking as a Hebrew scholar not giving his personal opinion about his own conclusions. I am more interested in historical and logistic evidence that supports my corroborates and refines my faith than one man's conclusions about his own journey thus far.
