I had horrible neighbors that played loud, annoying music pretty much every day, and lucky for me… I had one of those big systems with amazing bass capability. They lived below me, which was unlucky for them, because a great movie had just come out on VHS. And, of course, I had everything set up to play movies through the stereo. And the movie… was Top Gun, and anyone whose seen that first portion of that movie knows how loud and profoundly perfect those jet engines are when revving up. So with speakers on the floor, bass set nice and high… they were greeted by the sound of 2 F15 fighters rocking their ceiling. Strangely… it happened that night as well, getting the same response. I never heard their ridiculous noise again… but for a slamming door every time they got home or left. And eventually that stopped. I admit… it was satisfying.
I had noisy neighbors for a while - loud rock and pop for hours daily. They were in a house about 150 ft. from me. When they got loud, I started playing 16Hz-20Hz sounds. Those low frequencies are omnidirectional, so the neighbors could not pinpoint the source. After a while, 16-20Hz bass will cause fatigue and some nice intense headaches. After about a week, they finally realized the cause and effect. The loud outdoor music stopped.
I'm sure this guy is just sick and tired of his neighbors not being considerate. If asking them to quiet down a little doesn't work, maybe a taste of their own behavior will. We have a neighbor who, after we asked if he could quiet his stomping daughter who is always upset and throwing tantrums, immediately got louder along with his daughter right after we went back down to our place. He decided to be a total ass despite us asking him nicely.

This invention would be perfect if it captured the sound being played and amplified it back so any loudness over an acceptable level would immediately be felt by the perpetrator.

Having come from my own house for the past decade to the apartment life I can tell you apartment residents are some of the lowest forms of life in America. Our neighbors let their dogs poop all over the sidewalks, empty the trash from their cars in the parking lot, and everytime we even have a simple conversation they turn their music up to 10. Got a Hank Williams Sr track going on repeat and full blast when I'm not there.

I work at home, the only reason I got to talk with him in the first place is I slammed my door and he opened his...I had called him 2x over 4 days, texted him several times and banged on the wall and his door and he would not respond. He plays it at the same time every day, sporadically. He didn't get it and I've finally had it so I have this great little Anker blue tooth speaker and I put it right on the stair on our common wall and blast Phish...I don't even lower it, I just let it play until he leaves (he's a creature of habit so he leaves at a certain time, every day) I love Phish so it doesn't bother me in the least and it doesn't bother my neighbor on the other wall because it's not affecting him but I did call him and let him know to let me know if it does bother him. (I'm actually a considerate neighbor, unlike this asshole). I also own my condo, so I'm going nowhere. Wise up, asshole.

Yeah good luck with that in my experience that never amounts to jack. I had neighbors like this and I worked second shift and I knew that they worked 1st so when I got home at 1am I'd BLAST my music at around 2am with my subs in a room closest to their bedroom. After doing that for about a week straight they got the message "loud and clear" and they never dared to complain to the landlord because they were slanging drugs from that apartment.
Well, they can. We had a neighbor who liked to party every night. We started complaining, and after a few weeks, those neighbors complained to us cause they where getting $500 tickets every time we called them in (Tickets escalate here, $125, then the second is $250, and every one after the second is $500 a pop within a two year period). Although, to be fair, it was a townhouse setting, and the guys in the other side of the neighbors where also calling the police every night on them, so granted they could have responded just because they had multiple complaints. They moved out shortly after that, guess breaking their lease was cheaper then $500 a night lol.
I'm a drummer. Nothing can compete with the noise an acoustic drum kit makes. I respect my neighbors and always negotiate appropriate times to play. It also has the bonus effect of ensuring they do the same thing if they want to be loud.
+Tesla Nick any heavy base music with a sizable sub woofer will out "vibrate" a drum set. If you want to play more whenever you wanted though, add some pillows to your base drum as well as go buy some sonopan sheets and cover the room in them as well as put some heavy rubber mats ( the industrial kind / kinda pricey ) under neath the base drum. It wont be sound / vibrate proof but it will cut more than 50% of the sound penetration at least! happy drumming!
xsdrew19 Nah, seriously dude. I play a Tama kit which is seriously loud. You would need more than your average hifi system to compete with this kit. It's in a studio at the moment so I'm only playing the electronic kit at home now. The only way I'd be able to adequately sound proof would be to build a dedicated out building in my garden. Over the years I've tried any amount of techniques to sound proof rooms, basements, attics - you name it.

sometimes ya just gotta train people. In college I had a neighbor that played loud music for hours when I was trying to study and/or sleep. He kept late hours, so always slept late into the morning. I set up my speakers against the wall like this and when I'd leave for class in the morning I'd turn a song up all the way and put it on repeat, then head to class for the next 6 hours. It only took a few days before the music from the other side got turned down.
Yes, it is about training obnoxious people to behave differently by consistent consequences that mirror their bad behavior, in a measured dose. Until now, I swear, this YEAR, I have expected neighbors, and people in general, to want mutual consideration and fairness. I would become paralyzed in misery when people treated me like I didn't matter. Then, a new duplex neighbor dismissed a respectful in-person request to please not do something that was making me physically ill. This bizarrely intense cherry aerosol scent was suddenly thickly filling my yard and wafting even into my apartment, waking me to nausea. Her response? "I cannot live without my smells!" She suggested I see a doctor. After weeks of screaming into my pillow, I decided to do something other than try reason and an appeal to basic decency. I remembered I had sage smudge stick, and every time I smelled the toxic horror, I would light one right at my window that gives onto our shared porch where, on her side, she keeps her window open. I aimed a fan set on high directed her way, and her window would shut suddenly to stop her apartment from filling with sage smoke. She got the message. Now, I think of unprincipled me, me, me types as unruly puppies (just less cute). They just need to be trained.

What have you accomplished?I had a neighbour play loud music until 3am, I had a 7am start on the early shift the next morning. While I waited for them to stop playing their music I got some large boxes and some insulation to put my speakers in. When the music stopped, so they could go to sleep, I presume, I then started playing my heavy metal music, I could barely hear a thing. At 7 am I turned off my system to go to work. Never had a problem with the neighbours playing loud music after that.Might be an idea to wait for short while after the last loud input and then get your system to play for an hour or two, should work a treat then :)
+Alan Higgins That's the way to do it; If you can handle it, wait till they're done and THEN go at it!!! They get so annoyed and so tired. My schedule is so back and forth and my Best Friend is my AIR HORN!!! I don't complain face to face with them; I just have a GREAT time knowing I get them either at 4am before work or at about 2am after some work sessions. Depending, of course, on if they've been Assholes in the past 24 or so!!! It IS Instant Karma!!!

When I was younger I had one such idiot for a neighbor, so when he started playing his shitty music very loud I just loaded some heavy D&B in the stereo, turned the volume to max and went to another room. My neighbor calmed down as soon as his windows began juddering, but I kept on with the treatment until he'd leave his appartment...
The noise from his neighbors doesn't really bother him. He just needed an excuse to play those "annoying" songs on loop, because he loves those songs. 😛😜🤪😝🤠🥳🤯

I had the same problem with downstairs neighbors in a 3 floor building. I was so fed up one night, I went to the basement floor in the laundry room, where I remember seeing several electrical boxes, easily attainable. I found the service for that crappy neighbor's electric and shut it down! I was so pleased with myself, when I could hear them asking eachother if they paid the electric! 🤣🤣🤣 It didn't last long, but I was pleased with myself for quite some time later! 😂

My friend had terrible neighbors moving in who played music all night and sleeping during daytime. This went on for few days and he got revenge by playing music early mornings until noon. When they wanted to sleep they came over to him and the issue was settled. You mess with our comfort zone we mess with yours.....simple
I literally turned my wall into an oversized subwoofer by using high powered magnets and large suction cups. Not only does he feel it, but it literally shakes everything near or attached to the wall. It legit knocked things of his entertainment system.

+MRJOETHEHOBO12 Its not actually that hard. You literally just have to buy a component that can measure noise levels and the arduino comes with a way to set your threshold. Other components are just wires and resistors that once the threshold is reached, you just program the arduino to allow power to whatever device you want to power, a CD player, then it just does it.
I have a neighbour that isn't this loud, but he basically wiped his ass with any rules we agreed on, so I took a wooden hairbrush and slapped it against the wall for 30 times. Makes a highpitched, hard sound. Probably won't work for music, but (tonight at least) he got the message, it seems.

Ah this takes me back. Used to have a neighbour who would party until dawn. So I set up a very simple timer system which, a couple of hours after I'd gone to work in the morning, would power up a guitar amp, cranked up, connected to a guitar that was placed close by. This would produce hours of unholy loud feedback, until the system timed off a few hours later. I imagine it didn't help with their hangover. I only every had to use it once...
Yep. Everybody is the center of their own universe in apartments, except for people that have lived in single family homes and had to downsize later in life it seems. The little old lady down the hall keeps her place beat, and quiet and respects her neighbors, utmost of them don't respect her back.

I had bastard-azz neighbors like that. But I got them back. I downloaded a 12 hour loop of loud barking dogs sound track. Attached my stereo speakers to my ceiling (so the speakers are facing the ceiling) and blast it.....then leave the apartment. Love thy neighbor........~ >:)
This used to happen all the time at my apts. until I located the breaker boxes. From that point on any time they pissed me off I would just go outside and cut thier power 😂
