That’s a clear and concise way of saying “we don’t want you in our neighborhood.” And the cop had the gall to say “It’s obviously a nice neighborhood, people looking out for each other.” No, it’s obviously not a good neighborhood.

@@madpoetsociety2917 The cops had a call for a break in. To break in, usually means you have tools like crowbars, hammers, screwdrivers etc. Those tools are weapons, depending how the person uses them. So when cops show up, they must plan an appropriate response. If your suspects have weapons, you make sure you have your weapon ready. And while you may think that tools are not ranged, a person running at you can cover a lot of ground fast. Possibly faster than you can pull your 9wn weapon, so you must be ready to respond before they get that chance. The officer's demonstrated their measurement of risk by not making the people lay on the ground to be cuffed. A standing person is a greater threat. They were not screaming and swearing. They were calm, professional, even friendly. They have a job to do, did it well. Your over reaction just highlights your own bigotry against police.

100% a racial element. If this had been a white realtor, they would never have *dared* put cuffs on him. So I do get it if the house had been broken into before that maybe the neighbors thought it was another break-in. However, people don't usually break-in in broad daylight through the front door. But assuming that it was a mistake by the neighbors, the cops were way too quick to draw their guns and slap on cuffs. You clearly see they are cooperating fully, have their hands up, and yet you still cuff them before asking any questions? There were a lot of assumptions made in this case, I don't see how you can say there isn't a racial element to how they were treated. They were treated like they were guilty and had to prove their innocence whereas if they were white they would have been treated like they were innocent unless it was clear they were guilty. I am white and would look around properties, look into windows, go into backyards, etc. while I waited on the realtor to arrive. Never once did I have the cops called on me.

Let your local leo know if one of your neighbors ever calls the cops because someone is breaking into your home they are to walk up your door and knock. I mean, if you dress like a realtor and act like a realtor outside of a house with a "for sale" sign out front...and not some someone who might be inclined to commit burglary or home-invasion on a home that isn't obviously fit sale...I think you'll be okay.
@thorr18BEM

@@TrueOpinion99 it sounds like you are saying the basketball t-shirt the realtor is wearing is dressing like someone inclined to do burglary. That's strange because I thought t-shirts were what most people wear when not burglarizing homes. Also, the realtor doesn't have control over what his two customers are wearing and they may be the ones spotted by the neighbor. When I was selling a property of mine, they broke down the door to get into the garage and then broke down another door to get into the house and stole every tool I owned which I had been using to make repairs. The camera showed at least two of the three were white. Neighbors said they watched them drive away with all my stuff without calling the cops. I wonder if it's because those meth heads who robbed me were white. They certainly weren't dressed in suit or tie.

@@TrueOpinion99 With all due respect, even when it's 98 degrees outside, I put a tie on when going to show houses. In the hopes that it is enough to dissuade some nosy neighbor from calling the police because I am legitimately concerned with my safety going into multimillion-dollar neighborhoods where the color of my skin may cause some to be concerned for their own safety based on my presence alone. My Hope every time is that should the police be called, the way I'm dressed will make up for any preconceived notions about my color. So I hope you're right the way I'm dressed should be enough, but the truth is, it may not be. It wasn't enough when I got off work in Washington DC a decade ago and was walking home from the subway terminal when a police officer stopped me and threw me across this car while wearing a suit and tie he thought I was dealing drugs despite having a name badge on with FBI security clearance(no, I was not an agent for the FBI). It should be illegal for law enforcement officers to treat people like criminals, when there's no valid basis for concluding that they committed or are in the process of committing a crime. Oh wait, it is illegal but we don't often don't enforce that law. The call didn't grant the police a legal basis to order the people out of the home at gunpoint and place them in handcuffs. It granted them the legal basis to investigate from outside the house. They could observe to see if there was any evidence of illegal activity, like evidence of forced entry or someone trying to flee with expensive goods. They could knock on the door and ask questions if someone came to the door. But a mere phone call doesn't grant officers the legal authority to point guns at people and put them handcuffs, when they're just a realtor and prospective home buyers showing/touring a house that they have a legal right to be inside. Lawful citizens aren't supposed to have their day disrupted, let alone have guns pointed at them, just because someone told the police that they were breaking in a home.

I took a college course back when I was at Texas Christian University where the professor (an Asian American male) defined "White Privilege" as not having more advantages in life, rather having fewer disadvantages/discriminations in life (so opposite of what it sounds like). Essentially, in our country's history, White people (with few exceptions) have not faced the multiple generations oppression that most People Of Color (particularly African Americans) have faced, resulting in fewer disadvantages for them today. Sure, if you're a wealthy White person, you are better off than all average/poor people in the U.S., but if you're a middle class White person, you still have better chances to succeed in life because you don't have the systemic disadvantages that African, Asian, Hispanic, and Native Americans at a similar social class level have. Finally, when a person of color does become successful in the U.S., it isn't because of "Reverse Discrimination" as some White Americans argue, rather it is because they have managed to overcome the disadvantages that they faced that many of their White counterparts didn't have to face.

I'm Asian. Last year when my brother was looking to buy a house, he reached out to a realtor who happened to be Asian as well. I went to look at a house with him once and the owner must have been sitting outside watching us because he then came inside the house while we were touring it to make sure we weren't breaking in. She had the code to the lock box, so I don't understand why he thought we were breaking in. The realtor showed him her license, realtor agency, and even told him to contact his own realtor to prove we were not breaking in. After that happened, even though the house was a really nice house with a big yard, we decided not to buy from someone who is judgemental like that. We were lucky he didn't call the cops because it might have escalated like this video here. But he probably thought he could handle 3 Asians. 🤷‍♀️

@TrueOpinion99
@TrueOpinion99 3 года назад
One: empty houses are often prime targets for burglars because the likelihood of someone coming home and catching them is almost nonexistent. Besides, how does burglarizing an unoccupied house somehow make burglary okay and unworthy of contacting the police? There has been burglary attempts in that neighborhood in recent days, by individuals matching the general description of the realtor and his clients. Two: they probably patted the man down for weapons and found his phone; if his credentials are located on his phone, why wouldn't they offer it to him to unlock so that he can verify who he is and why he's there? Otherwise, they'd have to take him to a police station verify his identity...which is very inconvenient for literally everyone involved (yes, including the police officers). Three: yes, it does take time to verify his identity and credentials, especially if they had to utilize non-standard avenues to do so...because police very rarely have to verify a person's credentials as a realtor. Additionally, it's standard procedure to verify everyone's identity and then release (or arrest) everyone at the same time; that allows police the maximum control over the situation while getting things done as quickly as possible...especially if they're concerned they're potentially dealing with a group of potentially violent individuals.

Despite they're guns drawn it didnt sound like there was 20 cops all screaming different orders at once. They were calm and collected so these men were able to exit the house safely. You can also see during the detention that the cops used barely any force. Once they found out what was happening they apologized and released them. The police where perfect in this situation, they got a call about a break in and since they are not all knowing they had to treat the situation appropriately so no one gets hurt if the situation turns violent. Ofc in the end the police found out the truth and the men where released. But police do not know exactly whats going on every time they get to the scene. They are just going off of what dispatch told them, which in this case was a break in, unknown if armed. So they have to be ready if it is a break in and the men wanted to shoot at them.
