Not only are “Hollaback Girl,” “Wannabe,” and “Gonna Make You Sweat” all a singular song to me now, but “Kiss from a Rose” no longer exists to me outside of being the intro to this absolute masterpiece.
As someone who hasn't listened to any of the Mouth albums all the way through, this was the most batshit crazy sentence I have ever read in my fucking life
I started listening to Seal's "Kiss from a Rose," and was confused when Spice Girls and the rest of the stuff wasn't kicking in, and that's when I realized I wasn't listening to Neil Cicierega's "Shit"
I love how Fred Durst comes across as such a team player, endorsing the Spice philosophy. "This time I'ma--" "Zig-a-Zig-ah!" "YEAH!" [Best idea he's ever heard]
This is why Neil inspires me a lot. He can take several completely unrelated tracks of varying genres and put them together in a way that sounds both good and like it's own song. It's honestly a talent to behold.
Neil Cicierega's is the living incarnation of a stoned cassette player having a mental breakdown during a 5 floppy disc orgy on a 1979 Rat-Rod made from discontinued fridges and speak-n-spell's.
Judging from the names of the last songs in each of the albums, I think Neil was trying to tell us that the Mouth albums were a Smooth Flow of Piss and Shit.
"B-A-N-A-S (yeah!!)" is just what my brain is like when i'm hyperfixated on something but ridiculously sleep-deprived so i'm just super enthusiastically rambling about something that makes zero sense to anyone else but i don't care
i didn't notice it until i saw your comment. i googled it on the off chance neil made an arg and got very few, very bizarre results. i am afraid to click on them, and i doubt neil put them there.
What separates Neil from other mashup artists is that he seems to have a much, much deeper understanding of music theory....he routinely combines songs and elements that sound opposite at first but actually slot together in an unusual way that sounds like a real song. Other mashup artists combine two unlike elements that don't actually go together, for the lulz or something, and it feels like a clear mashup. Songs of Neil's sounds like original compositions, the most trimphant IMO being Wow Wow. Its like everybody else is sylvia browne and this guy is Neil Degrasse Tyson
@@spilledcereals2585 And that Neil isn't exactly a stranger to original compositions in the first place, as frontman of the band Lemon Demon. Guy grew up with the tools in front of him and he learned fast to make use of 'em. A real musical renaissance man.
Not hard to tie a bunch of pop shit together that isnt really that different in the first place at all. How much "music theory" could you possibly need to cut and paste vocal lines?
if at the start of this album you had told me that neil would seamlessly integrate ‘doodoo highway’ into one of the songs, i probably would have believed you, but still been surprised when it happened nonetheless
As in the tradition of "Piss" and "Shit", I want a mashup named "Come". It will include the following but will not be limited to: Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners Come as you are - Nirvana Come Dancing - The Kinks Come Together - The Beatles Baby Come Back - Player Come sail away - Styx Come Out and Play - The Offspring Come & Get It - Selena Gomez Come With Me Now - KONGOS Come On Over - Shania Twain Come and Get Your Love - Redbone Mama Told Me Not To Come - 3 Dog Night When I come around - Green Day Come A Little Bit Closer - Jay and the Americans Neil, I want to see this happen!
i feel like i could play this on full volume in my car, driving down a highway or something on a sunny day, and no one would really care and that is a good feeling my dude
I love how in the second verse, Gwen Stefani goes from saying "this shit is bananas" to simply "shit is bananas". A subtle but important distinction. (Going from figuratively saying that the current situation is bizarre, to declaring literally that feces is equivalent to the yellow fruit)

No matter how many years go by, I'm still completely convinced Neil is a musical genius. I look forward to seeing whatever he creates no matter what direction it takes
Seeing Neil's smug face on the cover of this while I hear this completely go to hell from Seel's kiss from a rose amplifies this from funny to hilarity.
1:09 is where they pull you back in. The background sounds add a lot, and then once it hits that final nananananaS and everything comes together that’s when the song really feels like a grand finale. This was incredibly well done. But honestly why would anyone expect anything less
cant believe i didnt notice where smooth was in this until i forced myself to listen to it really intently on loop for like an hour until i found where smooth was sampled good times i like smooth
1:57 i just realized the quiet guitar part in the background is the opening line to My Own Worst Enemy by Lit. My appreciation for this song has tripled
This song is so fucking layered. Down with the Sickness Where is the Love - Black Eyed Peas Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani Pretty Fly - Offspring Kiss From a Race - Seal Cowboy - Kid Rock Everybody Dance Now Banana Phone Wanna Be - Spice Girls Smooth - Santana
@neilciciergamusic I've been thinking about this a lot lately and had to let you now, you've damaged me psychologically. I'll never hear any of the songs you've sampled over the years without also hearing what you've mashed it with, and I hear many of these songs in my head all day every day. Thanks.
I don't know how to best express it but this song makes me so so unbelievably happy. I was listening to the whole album yesterday and it's amazing taking it all in, moving, grooving, it's all so fun. But this... This has so much unbridled positive energy, it has so much emphatic bliss, it makes me hopeful in ways I didn't know were possible. Honestly, this shit is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. I can't stop smiling
LORE Prediction: Smol Nozomi travels to the Mouth Universe, brings back Shrek, The Hamsters, and Larry King to free the Siiva Universe's memes and defeat the voice. The fight will wage on for a century. Many lives will be claimed, but eventually the champion will stand, the rest will see their better. Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater.
The moment it transitions into "You Can Call Me Al" with Limp Bizkit saying "I'mma doo-doo my way" was an auditory haymaker. I slumped over in my chair.
This song radiates the same feeling as a movie which revolves around a rival brother and sister competing to throw the best slumberparty. No, I will not explain.
