I hope when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts Neil ( he goes in alone). This Greatest of Singer-Songwriters deserves, like no other artist to have that night for himself. His body of work alone is testament enough, to be inducted into the hall (as a singer, as a writer, as an arranger, and for doing all three for over 5 decades. Like no one before). Neil I Salute You!!!
Neil Diamond.....Wow I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't listen to his music he has been performing longer than I have been alive and to have him sing to me everyday!!!! Marry Me NEIL!!!!!
a true believer in the light of the world....Jesus....you got it the first time...you just grew deeper and deeper.....oh, the impact you have on any traveling show...See you in church one
if one where to question one of Jesus sayings, such as " God is in every man" or " He helps those who help themselves" My goodness he truly was a spititualist. He did talk about oneself, and how important it was to love your fellow man like one loves themselves. Yes! like us Christ believed in the soul, of the spirit, and of the mind. "For heaven was within oneself" Yes! we all have been this way befor!!!
If you're gonna allow music to take you somewhere, let it be by someone like Neil Diamond. The emotion is real and strong. Where can Justin Beiber take anyone? I'll tell you: he is taking the pre-teen girls into hormone rages. The real singers like Neil Diamond make us remember our pasts, our heartbreaks, our true loves.
you are right! Elton did have Bernie Taupin who wrote all the lyrics to Eltons many, many hits. It is amazing to me that Bernie taupin does'nt get the adulation and respect from the masses as does Elton. The beautiful lyrics to which he penned all of Eltons hits, is a testament to his greatness as a writer. this is what seperates Neil Diamond from all the others-"He just does it all"....
Some people, they got to make it through. By never wondering why. Some people got to sing. Some people got to sigh. Some people they never see the lights, until the day they die. But I've been released. And I've been regained. And I've been this way before. And I'm sure to be this way again. Once again. One more time again. Just one more time..
" some people never see the lights until the day they die" I hope that most of us here are able to learn from the mistakes we make on our unknown journey. Our paths are not set, or predestined. The only constant is we are all going to die. It is how we live that will define us. And I hope we make it a good life. Peace to all!
I could'nt of said it any better. He is truly unique. there's no one out there who can claim they have written and song over a hundred hits. maybe Elton John comes to mind, but no other. enough said...
Niel has been a constant in my life, for as long as I can remember. My older sister had the album with cherry cherry on it and I got hooked at the age of 8 or 9. I'm now 55 and still listening.
I am a new fan but had the privilege of seeing him in concert this past June with my parents. I have seen so many bands with Iconic frontmen perform live but nothing that equaled the show that Mr. Diamond puts on. For the 2hrs he is on stage, the audience is mesmerized and completely captivated having to be told to curb the applause and ovations in order for the next song to begin. Its really something that should not be missed. He is a living legend!
I so love them both...and they are so different...go figure...creative precious people who sings from their heart and writes from there as well.......One
Guys loved this guy too - not what you are thinking - but because he could write great songs but it is also a strange phenomenum that his voice improved as he aged . Saw him live 4 times and from New Zealand that is no mean achievement. This song - well, some people they are never asking why .......
so fantastic..would have been so great to have been there ...just look at the audience, they were mesmorrized... just in another world...soooo gooood. would love to have been his dressing room assistant !!!!!!!!
Those years with Neal were great. That era will never be forgotten and neither will his legacy. He captured the hearts and minds of many with his own true style. Will we ever see anybody like him again. Wow.
my God!I didn't realize this song is about resurrection. how he was able to finally get it (see the light). after all the hits he has written, and the fame and glory that came with it, he was able to finally understand the meaning of just being (BE) and what lies ahead for those who truly believe.
" Some people, they never see the lights. Until the day they die" Its the mistakes we make along the way is when we question ourselves. As to why we did what we did, or said what we said and regret those actions for a lifetime. We can either give in and blame someone else, or bounce back and learned from it and become better because of it. Yes! were sure to be this way again. But this time we will regain ourselves a little bit faster, and a lot more wiser too..
sings with such feeling and intensity. Ended my concerts with this song. I have seen him about 25 times and each time was magical and so memorable. Shed some tears during his indredible songs. Was blessed to take my Mom to several concerts...she loved him too. Memories of a lifetime.
What a hymn this one is! Neil is surely one of the few outstanding songwriters in our time and to me, this is his signature song. Melody, lyrics, voice, arrangement - everything ist jus as it should be. And most of all: It comes from the heart and will remain there forever.
This performance is in a different league. A reminder of the talent. Powerful performance from a legend. The song has everything. I am still patiently waiting for a young pretender to his throne. Is there anyone out there? Please.
My greatest dream is to see this amazing beautiful man in person. He is the most talented man on earth. Where I live in the south, there is no chance of seeing him. Oh, how I wish I could see him and hear his fantastic voice in person. I was a young teenager when he first snag Solitary Man and now in my later years (much later), I have rekindled my admiration and appreciation of this genius called Neil Diamond. Rock on, dear Neil, rock on.
this is such a beautiful and telling song of an artist who was once rejected by the music industry, and how he was able to overcome it all. Sometime you have to take some heartaches along the way, before you can rise. This is a man who has been there before. He was able to rise above it all and become the artist who happens to be Americas Greatest Singer Sonwriter.
I have loved Neil Diamond since I ws 17 years old. I have never seen him in concert. I have noticed something about him while watching these You Tube performances. He is like a chameleon. First off, I never realized what a beautiful face this man had. He actually changes from one song to another. He exudes sexuality, but thats not what I mean. There is something incredibly spiritual about him. When you actually watch his expressions while he sings there is something almost holy about him.
Classic Diamond. He "owned" the Greek Theatre when he performed there. This is one of my favorite perferormances of this song. His band here is great! Sing On!!
I have always loved Neil Diamond and always wondered why, this by the way is a personal obsevation, he seemed ignored by top "40" radio stations back in the 7o's, I owned 20 of his albums and could not get enough! But the comments by you folks here tell the real story, This man's talent is endless! I know that we are blessed by certain entertainers, and Neil Diamond is one of them!
I've seen in in concert 3 times, absolutely fabulous. This song never fails to move me, in fact I have requested that it is played when I finally leave this world
Years ago, my daughter made me watch The Jazz Singer..Icomplained because Im not keen on jazz....Well.I watched it then and have watched it umpteen times since. Never seen a man look so sexy in a sweatshirt.. Saw him recently in an audience with...He still has what it takes. He had the audience eating out of his hands. always will.
As great as this concert and all the ones that came after have been, it would have been extraordinary if Hot August Night, 1972 had been captured on tape. The Greek Theatre was never the same after those 10 concerts.
@rpggyr I totally agree with you when you say ND has a way of changing from one song to another. I have thought this myself having only fairly recently started watching him on youtube. I could not have put it into words, but you have perfectly. I think he is a special person and Ive wasted a lot of years not appreciating him.And yes, he was blessed with a very beautiful face, which just makes me happy whenever I look at it to this day!
Look at those expressions on the audience's faces! Pure emotion listening to this POWERHOUSE! And now in 2010...Our youth are at the mercy of the talentless "hip hop artists" of the day...Glad I'm old enough to remember the beauty found in the music of 1974/1975
God, this is beautiful. I can't believe it's taken me this long to actually look up ND on youtube. There are a LOT of videos of him live in concert. I wore out some of my vinyl way back when. Now I'm putting it on ipods! Old dogs can learn new tricks! :-)
So many views for minor artists, why not more for artists like Neil Diamond? Love you, Neil! Regards from the Netherlands. Waiting for new album Melody Road!
I've loved Neil D. since I was about 17 too, and I've always had an absolute thing for him. He's as hot to me now as he was then. I've seen him twice, once in 1977 in England and again in New York in the 80s. He is amazing, very professional and yet so personal. Just love him, and this song is one of my favorites.
thx for your comments, i will be in Birmingham UK on June 10, it will have been the fourth time that i have been to see Neil Diamond, and enjoyed the concerts every time
What an introspective and passionate song about ones deep thoughts. Neil said in an interview that this song describes his feelings. This song is emotional for me. The lyrics are heartwarming. Thank you, ‘’54no more’ for posting the lyrics. 🥰👍☺️
This has got to be Neil Diamonds greatest song, I've never heard him sing it at the two concerts of his I attended, any song that gives me goosebumps, raises the hairs on my arms and brings me to tears is great. "You are the best part of me" is another with so much meaning.
One on mine and my dad's favourite songs, and artists, we don't really share much taste wise, but what we do share is a love of Neil Diamond, I'll always be thankful for that
