Neil Fox, aka Dr Fox and Foxy, is one of the biggest commercial radio DJs of the last 30 years. Speaking at a live Talking Radio event for the Radio Academy, he opens up about his dramatic arrest in 2014, his years on Capital Radio and his relationship with Richard Park. Presented by James Hanson, filmed and produced by Andy Bennett.
A former Pop Idol judge alongside Simon Cowell, Fox has a career that spans four decades, including spells at Capital Radio, Radio Luxembourg and Magic 105.4 FM. He's most recently been heard on the digital London station Thames Radio.

I liked Neil Fox a lot on Capital and Magic and I lived near him in London. He was always a nice guy to talk to but I never believed in what they said about him as I havent believed what they said about Dave Lee Travis... it was a pocket of nasty events made worse by headline hunting paparazzi who jumped on anyone who was vaguely popular. I hoped he would be back but even now it has been destroyed and it is so so sad.

The fact this innocent man had his name dragged through the mud is a disgrace to this country, the British media are an embarrassment

There's a lot to be said for maintaining anonymity until a person is found guilty - then their lives aren't ruined if they're innocent. Many years ago, I remember some poor sod being publicly arrested for the abduction and murder of a young girl. Within an hour, there was a helicopter over his house, journalists were interviewing his boss and colleagues, and his name was all over the news. He was completely innocent, and they caught the actual perpetrator a while later. The police apologised and of course 99% of people would have felt very sorry for him ..... but there will always be that 1% who will say "No smoke without fire" for the rest of his days. Dreadful.

Great interview, very honest. I used to listen to Neil Fox on Capital Fm back in the day on his evening surgery playing a great range of classics and hits of the day. And when he occasionally covered the Breakfast show. Back in the day of Neil Fox, Pat Sharp, Mick Brown, Chris Tarrant, Martin Collins, Richard Allinson, David Kid Jenson.

Now that is scientific fact. There is no _real_ evidence for it; but it is scientific fact.

Whose bright idea was it to sit the subject directly in line of the light from the computer projector?

And the mics in front of the speakers. Needs an eq notch down at 400ish hz

The "Capital Radio / DJ Jingles" from 1987 were very Powerful and Hot Rocking. Deep rapid vibrant voice. Always worked. I guess the creative spirit of Kenny Everitt was still very much alive and present while these jingles were being produced.

Re his arrest, when I was 14, he was dating my mate's sister who was 16. He was 28. I remember he came round to her family home and picked her up in his Jag (which apparently had the reg place 958 FXT, or something like that). Not a crime I know, and it really was 'a different time' (see Chris Evans and Billie Piper years later). But still, I think it shows that he could have let the attention go to his head more than some others in the same position did. Hence, personally, I'm not discounting the claims those women made as untrue. Just un-evidenced. Just my opinion.

He must be bitter that he never got the Capital Breakfast Show. Although Capital these days is a shadow of its former self as a national station. No longer a London station.
