Here is the complete 78 minute video of the 1992 Neil Peart Drum Clinic in Irvine CA.
After many comments and views I was told that/discovered an A/V sync issue around 30 minutes til the end. So I've fixed it and reuploaded it here: • Neil Peart 1992 Drum C...
I also uploaded it into 3 smaller parts. They are:
Neil Peart 1992 Drum Clinic - Part 1 of 3 • Neil Peart 1992 Drum C...
Neil Peart 1992 Drum Clinic - Part 2 of 3 • Neil Peart 1992 Drum C...
Neil Peart 1992 Drum Clinic - Part 3 of 3 • Neil Peart 1992 Drum C...

I was just thinking that very thing. Did they know how rare this was!! Its been well documented that he was quite shy and didn't do many drum clinics. So to have him there wth his kit explainning the ins and outs of the show. Just once in a lifetime opportunity. If I had a magic wand ;). I discovered Rush during this album (Roll The Bones). What I would have given. Awesome stuff!

It took part in Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre in L.A., as part of some kind of award the PIT gave to Neil Peart and he offered the workshop in return. I had been a huge Rush fan and studied Drums there at the time and I still can't believe my luck to have spent some time with one of my biggest musical influences, Signals was my musical and drumming firestarter. Unfortunately I was shellshocked and couldn't utter a word. We got to see the show, too.

I had always loved Niel Peart's drumming to rush songs but somehow, and foolishly, at times felt his drumming as a drummer was stiff and overly calculated! But then I discovered this video and heard his powerful performance of those studio parts live! Here he shows his absolute heart and soul and to play the parts with so much power and intensity he made me swollow my former misconception. He plays the parts here as if they were invented and written for the first time. I can only imagine how unique it was to have seen and heard him live. He really puts everything behind it in this video and so I realised that my misunderstanding of his playing had to do with his parts being mixed in the studio. The recordings he sounds isolated and exact. Love here and without gating of his drum sounds he sounds whole and organic. What a powerful player in this video and what musical conviction he showed for the song and it's parts! Amazing

I saw Rush 42 times. Without exaggeration, the drums are louder in the first 20 rows directly in front of the front rows than from the loud amplifiers of a Rush concert. He hit drums hard as hell every single concert and he was highly respected by virtually all professional drummers. He was such a sensitive introvert but still had a ton to say and write about his craft and travels. Function was always more important than fame for this monster drummer and he sincerely wanted music to continue with real drummers rather than soulless electronic loops and computer samples. He loved playing concerts at 100% effort and integrity but despised the touring problems and time from home. His restless mind forced him to push his body to the limit both in concert and exploring the world on bikes and motorcycles.

@@izzysworld6815 lol what? Lots of bands record songs in one take. Especially back in the 60's 70's and early 80's it was not uncommon at all. Some even record the song together live off the floor. There are interviews where Neil literally says they recorded certain songs in one take. I believe Red Barchetta was one of them. Maybe they recorded back up takes incase something happened to the original but they used a single take from start to finish. Nowadays that is pretty much unheard of but thats why songs sound so sterile and over-processed

The critics who are not impressed by Peart do not know anything about drumming. This man was the 2nd person elected to the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. The first person was Buddy Rich. Rich was perhaps the greatest musician North America has generated since Charlie Parker. Neil Peart was the second drummer elected to the Modern Drummer HoF. The guy who Buddy's daughter Cathy called upon to put together the Buddy Tribute Records? It was Neil. Neil was far more stiff in the 1970's as he was learning his craft, as great as his drumming may have been. The people who bash him are always punk drummers or drummers who are lazy. People who adopt the foolish less is more philosophy. As Neil says, less will always be less. If you play something that is not technically challenging, it better be exceptional. A technical master like Steve Gadd or Bernard Purdie can play something simple but in an exceptionally great way because they do it with the confidence and conviction of a master who has studied and enhanced his craft. It communicates itself in a different manner than a drummer who plays something simply because that is all he knows. Moreover, if Neil Peart had no groove and was stiff as a board, his group wouldn't be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rush has sold well over 50 million records, and you cannot do that with just playing music that is technically complicated. Your music has to move people. Rush's record sales, in essence, defeat the arguments of his antagonists. Neil also worked with Freddie Gruber, the master teacher from Buddy Rich's era (see his "Work In Progress" video and Rush's documentary "Beyond A Light Stage") when Neil did feel a bit of stiffness getting into his playing due to the brilliant but technically challenging 1982-1988 period of Rush's music that relied so much on sequencers. Neil post-2001 became more improvisational as a drummer than he had ever been due to his studies with Gruber and Peter Erskine. Instead of guys like Keith Moon and John Bonham who didn't give a shit about getting better and drank themselves to death, at least Neil cared about his artistry and getting better as a musician. Saying a musician doesn't have feel is just an excuse. It's basically trying to uplift musicians who don't put the time and effort into learning how to properly play an instrument. Rush's record sales, their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame status, and the numerous awards they have won in their own country prove that each musician in that band plays music that moves people. You can cannot move people if you do not have feel and are stiff. Rush's critics and Neil' s critics continue to be idiots who wish to elevate the punk drummers of the 70's and or the countless drummers of the 70's who had ability but wasted it due to substance abuse problems. That being a drunk or drug addict made you a more authentic artist. I say B.S. If you play an instrument, you become as technically proficient as possible. Doesn't matter what style of music you are playing. Rush's record sales and Neil's drumming proved that you could still MOVE people but also impress technical musos.

The nerve on this guy that keeps interrupting Neil? Now days so many would pay mountains to talk to him in an intimate setting. Maybe that's yet another reason why he stopped doing things like this. He used to give so much back to drummers and musicians. He was so open, and accessible in comparison. People spoiled it. That dude just needs to listen. Neil would have answered his question.
