Wow. I don't think I have EVER seen closed captioning so thoroughly SLAUGHTER the actual lyrics being sung.

I do believe another great song he played in this session is called, "Heart of Gold". Just a simple song as Neil goes throughout the world searching for his, "Heart of Gold". His lyrics are truly deep and beautiful; and I'm sure you will greatly appreciate them as Neil was not only a great musician; but also, quite a poet. He spoke from his heart as all great artists in their fields would do. Neil also wrote this amazing, beautiful and heartbreaking song called, "The Needle and Damage Done." One of his friends and musician from his group called, "Crazy Horse", was fighting a losing battle with his Heroin Addiction; and it was interfering with the band's music. Neil gave his friend money and insisted he get treatment for his addiction. And when he was clean to come back to the band--before this drug killed him. He never came back and like so many great musicians died of an overdose. Neil's lyrics are some of the bests ever written about this subject: beautiful, dark, and so very haunting. Once heard, they can Never be Unheard again. Neil sings about how the Junkie would, "Milk Blood...to keep from Running out...I've seen the Needle and the Damage Done, a little part of it in Everyone...But, every Junkie's like a Setting Sun." During the time this song came out, I got to be really good friends with a co-worker who came back from Vietnam, after serving 2 tours there. He was kind, funny and being that I was still in high school, he kept an eye out on me making sure that I never got involved with the hard stuff. He was like an Older Brother to me; and I loved him like a Brother. But the war really did a number on him mentally and he came back addicted to Heroin. Until it finally took his life. So, every time I hear this song, I think about my adopted brother; and pass a few tears in his memory. I like to think that in death, he finally found the Peace that War took away from him.

'Heart of gold' is one of his best.

He first came to fame as the guitarist of Buffalo Springfield in 1966... the band split up in 1968 and Neil Young went solo as Neil Young and Crazy Horse... In 1969, he also joined the group CSNY (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) and they became huge w/ their acoustic records... His song 'Ohio' (by CSNY) was particularly powerful condemning the Kent State University massacre in Ohio by the US national guard in 1970... Neil Young was a successful artist in the 70's in both outfits. In the 80's, Neil Young saw his music become experimental and his popularity declined in the decade... In 1989, his album 'Freedom' was a return to commercial success and he scored a hit single "Rockin' in the free world"... Another song video you should watch from Neil Young is the song, “The Needle and the Damage Done”. The unplugged version is a good one. In 1972, Young wrote about the impact of drug abuse, especially about his musician friends, which he witnessed first-hand. At the time, many of his friends and fellow creatives were spiraling from the effects of heroin addiction. Danny Whitten, Young’s Crazy Horse bandmate and longtime friend, was among those rapidly sinking deeper into their addiction, and eventually died from drug use. A really heart felt song that brings a tear to my eye.

Neil Young is one of the great ones. He made lots of great music when a member of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and also as a solo artist as you can hear in the song you just listened to They sing close harmony on a fantastic level and their album "Deja Vu" is considered one of the greatest albums of all time.

Neil Young is considered one of the top twenty all time greatest rock lyricists, and rock guitarists. He has a unique voice, and many great softer acoustic and rock style songs. His vocals and lyrics are touching, and play with your emotions. If you would like to hear more acoustic style songs, then Heart of Gold (searching for love song), Harvest Moon (love song), Don't Let It Bring You Down, After The Gold Rush (protest type songs) would be good choices. Rock style songs then Powder Finger, Cortez The Killer, Southern Man, Rockin in The Free World would be great choices. I enjoyed your reaction, and I'm glad that you reacted to Neil Young.

Niel Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Ian and Sylvia, Leonard Cowen and Joni Michel are all Canadians that played in clubs in Yorkville in Toronto in the 60's. I lived there at that time and it was revolutionary.

He is truly a living legend and one of the greatest song writers of his or any generation.

Notice how he is dressed, the same thing he was wearing at the ranch. he got in his truck and drove to the stage where he performed this song. No frills, he is not looking for fame or fortune, is very down to earth and just wants people to hear his music and what he has to say. That is just so REAL!

Neil Young is a legend! As part of several bands over the decades, his own bands, and a solo artist, and he's still kicking! There's another video, well I think there's videos of that whole BBC concert, but there's a video of him doing another classic of his from that performance, "Heart Of Gold", that a lot of people react to which is awesome. There's also a great, more medal cover of that song by Black Label Society. Not sure if you know BLS, but Zakk Wylde is Ozzy's guitarist, and BLS is his own band that he also does. I'm not an expert, but I think BLS has an ever-changing line up because Zakk uses BLS to spotlight young up and coming musicians he likes to let them get some attention off of his name, then they move along, and he finds new ones, but ultimately, it's his band. I'm also guessing that you might not know Crosby, Stills, Nash, and sometimes Young, but you should check them out. David Crosby, the oldest and most famous at the time, had been part of The Byrds, a seminal early rock band of the movement in the 60s, until I think he got himself kicked out of that band. Graham Nash came to California from England after leaving The Hollies. Stephen Stills had been part of Buffalo Springfield with Neil Young. All three had sort of been without a band at the time, and had been part of the Laurel Canyon scene, where a bunch of musicians from the 60s and 70s all ended up living in Laurel Canyon, an area in LA nestled in the hills above the coast, and they had a little community where they'd all hang, jam, and whatever. So, Crosby, Stills, and Nash just happened to start playing together and realized they had something going, and ended up forming a group that was pretty phenomenal, though, they didn't always get along that well, and broke up and got back together several times over decades, and Neil Young sort of floated in and out as part of the group turning CSN into CSN and Y, but would bail and do his own thing when he had enough. At this point, I think David Crosby has pissed everybody else off enough that it's not likely that they'll ever reunite again, and well they're all not likely to be with us much longer anyways. There's documentaries on all this stuff, CSN, the Laurel Canyon scene, and David Crosby even made his own a few years ago. You should check out CSNY's song "Ohio" for a classic Neil Young riff though. This was all before I was even born, and I'm much older than you, so you might not be familiar, but the song is about the Kent State Massacre, where in 1970, students at Kent State University held a protest against the Vietnam War, and some national guard soldiers opened fire on them, killing four unarmed students, and wounding nine more. Another student, took some photographs, one of which became a Pulitzer Prize winner, and one of the famous pics of one of the dead bodies ended up on the cover of Life magazine. The story goes that Graham Nash and Neil Young happened to be out at some cabin, somewhere, hanging out I guess, when they saw it, and Neil Young was so disturbed by it that he grabbed his guitar, and just walked out into the woods, and when he came back, he had written the song. Graham Nash got on the phone immediately, they recorded it the next day, and then released it as soon as it was ready, which wasn't a common thing then. There's so many great CSN, with and without Neil Young, that you should check out though. It should all be pretty easy to find since it's pretty ubiquitous. One of my personal favorites, sans Young, is "Southern Cross". Also, this is just some random trivia, but another famous Neil Young song is called "Southern Man", which is about the racism and history of slavery in the American South, which was obviously a huge issue of the times, and Neil Young felt very strongly about. I dont know if you've reacted to Lynyrd Skynyrd yet, a 70s Southern Rock band, but Neil Young being originally Canadian, I guess Lynyrd Skynyrd took offense to the song, and in their famous song "Sweet Home Alabama", they included the lyric, "I hope Neil Young will remember, that a southern man don't need him around anyhow."

Lyrically and musically he refused to be put in a box. That’s why he’s one of my personal heroes! Might I suggest a couple of my personal favorites that I think would really enjoy, one from his younger days and one from a bit more recently.”Cinnamon Girl and Harvest Moon!” The two together I think just begin to show his versatility musically! I met Neil Young as we were both waiting on a plane around Midnight in the Detroit Airport. He was so down to Earth and we talked for about twenty minutes about everything except music.

He also does rock songs with an electric guitar and was part of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young on some of their songs.

Neil Young was one of my favorites growing.He had so many hit songs.Love it too when he plays harmonica in some of his songs.I think he had a special bond to that old caretaker and he was like a father figure to him.Now I guess you can say Neil and me are the old men.

"Cortez the Killer" live in Brazil is very good. It's Neil Young and Crazy Horse which is a totally different energy.

There is a group called Crosby Still and Nash. occasionally they teamed up with Neil Young to form CSN&Y. There is a song titled Southern Cross that is outstanding. I dont remember if all four sang on it .

Like so many others, Neil Young inspired me to first pick up a guitar. 30+ years and probably 10 more guitars later I’m still playing.

This was my favorite song in highschool.

My favorite Neil Young song is Harvest Moon. It's a love song about a couple growing old together and it's basically the story of my relationship with my wife. It's important to both of us.

This was performed in 1971 at Massey Hall...Neil played this before it was released on Harvest (the album)...can you imagine seeing him live and he just plays this song for the first time??...hasn't even been released yet!!! He is amazing...one of greatest songwriter's of all time...folk/rock...check out "Needle and the Damage Done" which i think he wrote after Jimmy Hendrix died from heroin overdose...when he plays it at this show, it also had not been released yet...he also plays same song about 20 years later on MTV unplugged and i've seen that one on RU-vid as well...thanks and hope you can react to more Neil Young... you will not regret it

Neal came out of Canada to Los Angeles in the 70's about the time another Canadian artist took the music world by storm and that was his friend Joni Mitchell. They both became artist with great talent and that could bring their ideas and talents to a world that was changing and ended up adoring them for a long time. Neil played for a period with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, all singers great and talented that had great harmony, wonderful talent and a vision that captured the world for a decade or more.

I saw him do a solo concert on a wooden stage with a mic on the floor to pick up his stomping feet as a drum beat, his acoustic guitar and an harmonic which was around his neck on a metal holder that allowed him to play harmonic and the guitar. It was amazing.

Keep researching these older groups…it will blow your mind!
